The hail had let up, and although that seemed like something that would make the young boy happy, he wasn't. He was conflicted, for his mentor's whole personality had changed, his whole views in general. He called him a man, not just a kid, not just some homeless kid he picked up off the street. He walked in the silent streets, no real figures in the immediate area, although when he was leaving the house he saw a couple people leave. Maybe it was best to stay inside, for another storm could instantaneously erupt like the last, but he couldn't stand to be forced back into that house, plus he needed time to think to himself.
What was he doing? He was a thief right? He made money right? So, why would Black say that what he was doing, was petty money. What did Black do? Interesting questions flew to his head, as he began to fondly think about those words that drifted from his mentor's mouth, how they had warmed his heart so. Was it because he was caught in the act of showing initiative, that he was becoming serious in his trade without being told, or the fact that he truly was older. Interesting thoughts flew to his head, and he enjoyed every bit. This truly brought excitement to his life, unlike most of the boring events that happened.
Thinking like that, leaned him more in the direction of accepting, but then again... What possibly could it have been? What could be so bad, that his mentor had asked him, if he wanted in. Normally Black would make descicions for him, but now he got a choice? Did this mean he would finally find out Black's job? Did this mean he would finally find out where all that money comes from? Interesting. He soon found himself looking up, to see three shady figures approaching from in front of him, forcing him to turn the corner.
That was playing it safe, which was understandable in this situation, because he didn't really have a certain spot to go to. He wasn't going to hit a quick one, or try to make some spare change, he was just clearing his head. So he kept walking, debating the choices in his mind, various outcomes and what not. He heard footsteps though, which proved he wasn't alone. Glancing behind him, he listened for them, but they were far enough to where he could see them only. He sped up, and turned another corner, entering an alleyway.
He noticed that they also turned the corner, which was a green light signal for him. Sprinting, he took off running, abandoning his thoughts and calm mood. The sound of his feet on the dirty cobblestone, he was running for dear life, for he knew the type of people outside at this time of night. But just like he knew those people, he kenw his way around his town of birth, for he had never left this city once, and he was about to prove that.
The alley began to end, with a wooden fence standing in front of him, easy prey. He gave a firm push in the calves, exploding his muscles to lift him in the air, using his sticky hands to latch on to the top of the fence. Splinters didn't matter here, nor did pain, he pulled himself up with all of his might. Sitting atop the fence for a split second, letting gravity assist him down to gain a bit of energy, he was able to get a glance of the enemies. They were right behind him.
As he began running down an open street, he heard their feet on the floor simultaneously, although it seemed like a perfect landing for them. They were running once more, until he felt his shirt choking him, pulling him back. He dropped to the floor, instantly cracking his back, temporarily immobilizing him. He soon was flushed with a barrage of kicks, stomps, and punches to his body. All he could do was lay and curl up in a ball, letting out whimpers of pain, he accepted his fate. It lasted for a while, although it felt all to quick and not truly intentional.
Soon it was over, and the terrorist were running off just as fast as they came, dissapearing into the night. He laid on the ground, just whimpering and sobbing in his own filth, his body dirty and stinging with pain. He went back to a fetal state of mind to match his position, leaking fluids from his eyes as he thought about what had just happened, the very thought of it. Was he tired of it? Was he tired of being weak? Was he ready to move up, to stop making "chump change", and earn the "big boy money." He slowly rolled, till he laid on his stomach and pushed himself up so that he sat on his knees.
"Akajia... Why? Why didn't you mask me in the darkness? Why didn't you hide me as I pondered this information, please... I was hurt under your watchful eye... I'm sorry for whatever I have done, but if you saw this necessary... Then it must have been necessary. I understand, I know the answer now, so... Thank you mother." He stood up, accepting more pain, beginning to walk and not limp. The reason he referred to his goddess as mother was because he never knew his, he always came out at night and was under her watch, so why not. Plus it often made him feel safer, to know that soemone was watching his back.
Either way it went. He knew his answer for when he got home. Know all he had to do was make it there in one piece.
What were the chances.
The door slammed as he entered his home, it was darker than normal, with a bright radiance coming from a nightstand holding multiple candles. He trudged to his spot, sitting on the floor with his legs crossed, he just sat and tried to take it all in. Hearing his mentor come from nowhere, he was about to speak. till he was beat to the punch.
"Seems like they ruffed you up pretty good eh?" A chuckle coming from the shadow, Black noticed his young one about to speak, and decided to cut him off. "Yeah, I sent those guys for ya. I knew you wondered what I did so I showed ya... Although normally it's just one of us, and we don't let the guy walk away. But... This was different." He walked up to his student who looked destroyed, patting his bruised shoulder, and kneeled down to meet him eye to eye.
"I know you Light, your not weak... I can show you how to take care of yourself, how to fend for yourself, how to live... Without me, because one day I won't be here, and your gonna have to fight this world alone, because nobody will help you. You know this is a cruel world, it's eat or be eaten... So tell me, are you hungry? Sick? Tired? If so... Take what is yours, this is the first step to getting what you rightfully deserve."
Light looked up, staring into the eyes and words of his mentor, basking in the moment. He then looked at Black's chest, there was a handle sticking out, as if a handle to a weapon of some sort. He was told that if he wanted something he was supposed to take it, he was supposed to grat it, and he was tired of being sick and hungry. He was tired of being poor. He was tired... Of being weak. "I am, and I... Accept." He grabbed the handle, slowly sliding it out to remove a sharp new, dangerous looking dagger. Gleaming in the light, he novicely held it sideways, failing to understand.
Black raised his student's head by his chin, setting their gaze back upon each other. "Light, I'm going to show you how to truly survive, what you do with it is your choice. I'm just being a good parent." He stood up, holding out his hand for his child to accept, smiling softly.
Light grasped his hand with his left, still holding the dagger, except now he was allowing it to hang. He then stood up, facing his teacher, he had a confident look on his face. "So Black... What comes first."
Black chuckled, pulling out a large dagger of his own, longer but not as broad as the boys or bladed the same. "First I'm gonna teach ya how to use that."
And so it began.
