Not found on any map, Endrykas is a large migrating tent city wherein the horseclans of Cyphrus gather to trade and exchange information. [Lore]

1st of Fall, 510 A.V.

Strands of grass tickled her toes as she walked, her feet barely making a sound in the soft, moist grass. So different from the white hot sands she was used to, so very different. The sensations in her feet shouldn’t have surprised her any more. After all, Sharakai has been walking through the grass for a while now. A month had barely passed since she entered Cyphrus. And yet, everything still amazed her. The freshness of the air, the rains that seemed to come so much more frequently than they had in the Burning Lands… Everything was new, fresh, and exciting. She was so glad she had never bothered with wearing shoes. They seemed as unnecessary here as they did in the desert. The webbing in her toes always did good job of protecting her from the hot sand. Now, it helped her feel every bit of moisture in the earth. Then again, with some of the rocky hills she’s had to climb, it might be best to invest in a pair of shoes after all.

She laughed quietly at her own foolishness – a rich sound that seemed to be bursting with something left unspoken and unthought-of. She had gotten so good at leading on conversations in her head during the past months. She had been traveling with a caravan for the better part of a year, but the last months it had been just her and her horse. Speaking of which… Sharakai turned her heart to look at the mare who was peacefully grazing a few meters away. It was a relief to finally allow Hara to rest. After the incident with her hoof, she had been limping slightly and Sharakai felt guilty every time she had to make the horse keep going. Only with her luck could someone have bought a horse only to have it injured in a few weeks. Needless to say, she hadn’t ridden on horseback after the incident, opting for walking along the animal and making small talk.

At times, she had to convince herself that she wasn’t insane for speaking to herself or a horse. Surely it was better than having a deafening silence in one’s head. She kicked a small stone with her foot, sanding it skittering a few paces forward. She felt alive. Alive and alone. Granted, she was happy to be here, but she was still a stranger to Endrykas. She knew no one; had only spoken a few words to a few merchants. She had set up her camp on the outskirts of the city like all the other travelers, had walked around the city itself, had taken it all in… Still, she was not part of anything here. Her copper skin stood out strikingly against her surroundings, as did her raven hair and black eyes. She caught up with the stone and kicked it again, halfheartedly this time.

Jhonno sits by the roadside, idly whittling a short stick with designs of knotted tangles. He bites his tongue as he works to perfect the pattern. Suddenly, he looks up, distracted by the strange figure walking past him. This was no Drykas horseman. Jhonno stands up, and takes a step forward. "Uh, pardon me, but is your horse all right? It looks like she's limping."

Sharakai looked up to see a Drykas standing before her. She had been so consumed in her thoughts that she had not even noticed him approaching. Startled by his question, she turned to see Hara slowly moving from one patch of grass to another, still limping slightly.

“She had a fall not too long ago and never fully recovered. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about horses to be of much help to her,” she said apologetically. She was slightly embarrassed by her lack of knowledge on horsemanship, especially since she considered herself to be a healer. In her opinion, a healer must be able to aid animals as well as humans. And here she was, not even being able to help her own horse.

“I am Sharakai,”
she added with a tentative smile. “May I know your name?”

She had yet to make the acquaintance of anyone in Endrykas and she was anxious to convey a positive impression. It occurred to her that the man might have more experience with horses than she did and may be of some use to Hara.

"You most certainly may!" Jhonno says with a smile, reaching up to twirl his mustache with his right hand in what he hopes is a rakish manner, while sneakily sticking the carving knife and rod he was working with into his belt pouch with his left. "I'm Jhonno Crimsonhawk. May I have a look at your horse?" Jhonno leans over towards the beast's leg. "How long ago did you say she fell?"

"Please do," Sharakai said, approaching Hara along with Jhonno.

She was relieved at the possibility of getting some help for the mare. She wasn't limping nearly as badly as she had a weak ago, but the horse's hoof still worried Sharakai.

"It was a little less than a month ago. She was galloping and must have tripped on a stone." Sharakai had fallen along with the horse, rolling a few feet away from the animal in the process. She had taken some brusies as well, but treated those well enough. Once again, she berated herself for no learning anything about treating equine injuries before purchasing the horse.

"Her name is Hara," she offered belatedly, feeling that it was only proper that the mare be intorduced as well.

Jhonno frowns as he looks over the injured foot. "This doesn't look good." He stands up straight and turns to Sharakai. "Sorry to give bad news. Hey! You should take Hara to the Opal Pavilion! She can get help there!" Jhonno turns and looks down a side alley, and makes a nickering sound. A strider horse trots up, wearing an yvas covered in detailed knots, over a red pad. Jhonno turns back to Sharakai with a grin on his face. "Baohnshee here can take us there."

“What exactly is wrong with her?” Sharakai asked, feeling a little skeptical. She had been under the impression that the hoof had started to heal. True, she didn’t understand much about the way a horse’s injuries were supposed to progress, but she did know quite a bit about human medicine. She was sure that the bruise above Hara’s hoof had started to close up. Apparently, there may have been some complications beyond those visible to the naked eye.

She had heard of the Opal Pavilion as one belonging to adept healers and while she did not completely trust a man she had just met, she was eager to visit the famous pavilion.

Sharakai wasn’t too clear on the ethics of two people riding on one horse, so she waited for Jhonno to take the lead.

"Well, I'm not exactly a expert on these things, but I think Hara's leg didn't heal right. If a horse's leg is injured, and they're allowed to put weight on it without a splint, then it can heal crooked. The healers of the Opal clan would know more, though." He grabs onto a handle on Baohnshee's vyes. "Grab onto this handle, and put your foot on the loop beneath it to climb up. She's carry both of us easily."

Sharkai pulled herself up onto the horse’s back with relative ease. It wasn’t like she hadn’t ridden a horse before. She made herself comfortable in the saddle and called out to Hara who was standing rather uncertainty nearby, “Come on, Hara, follow me.” She spoke in her native Tawna, knowing that the horse was more likely to obey her if she used the language of the Chaktawe.

Hara was a loyal animal and one who has spent her entire life with a caravan. She knew when it was time to follow her owner and when she had to stand her ground. This time, Hara gracefully pulled her nose away from the grass she had been chewing and proceeded to trot after the Cyphrus strider.
