Unfamiliarity was an annoying thing, it messed up your entire rhythm and it was even worse when you are used to an entirely thing. For Kreig, the unfamiliarity was the wooden training-replica of a hand-axe. Its dimensions were similar to the Iron one had obtained from a bandit, but which he had never really used and rested in the chest of his dorm room gathering dust. In his left, strapped to his arm was a round wooden shield, it felt like a familiar presence but at the same time was still very foreign to him.

As one would easily predict, he was at the training grounds. Before him was his patron, Sera Natasha Druva, a woman who was a close friend him nowadays and of course his mentor within the order. They were both dressed in armor, Kreig in his own personal apparel that, while clearly syliran made, made him look a bit like a mercenary. His patron in contrast, wore the Order's 'light' armor which was a mishmash of plate, chain and leather armor. In her right was a wooden longsword and in her left a kite-shield.

Kreig looked at her, irritaion clear on his face "Sera, may I ask I am training with an axe instead of a longsword?"

"Simply put, Kreig? Disparity"

"Disparity, Sera?" Kreig tilted his head in confusion, looking down at the axe in his hands. He was unused to the wooden shaft, it was long and unlike the grip of his long sword was not as around. It was one long handle really and he felt that the weapon could fly from his hands at any moment.

"Yes, Disparity. Whilst you are not THAT advanced in your skill with the blade, the disparity would interrupt with your shield training and thus training with an unfamiliar weapon will at least rectify that to a degree. That, and there are two extra reasons as well" Kreig raised his head to her, curious as to what these two reasons were.

"One, you seem to be far more attuned to the Longsword with two hands rather than one. Second, learning to use a shorter range weapon like the hand axe would prove invaluable whilst fighting in indoors.....it would finally mean you have a use for that old hand axe you looted from that Bandit two winters ago" Kreig let his head dropped, no wonder she chose a hand-axe for him to train with then....It made sense he supposed. But it annoyed him...

Not being able to do much about it, he extended his arm and raised the axe before him. Rotating his hand to examine it from every angle so that he could try and get used to the grip, but to no avail " Fear not Kreig, you will get used to it. It's simply a matter of practice and practice makes..." She left the sentence hanging in the air as she pointed her blade at him.

"...Makes perfect" He sighed as he lowere the axe and move forward towards his Sera, then stopped once he was in a close enough distance "I just feel that it would fly from my hand"

"" Kreig nodded at her words. Since he had to get used to the weapon, he'd decided to give a swing or two before he began. As such, he raised the weapon quickly up into the air....and it prompty slid through his hand and fell behind him with a small thud.

"Yes, things should go quite nicely"

He sighed as he picked up the hand axe, leave it for him to drop something so easily. His patron simply smirked as she shook her head "Are you sure we can't just train with the sword?" Kreig suddenly wished he could take those words back as his patron suddenly gave him a scolding look, knowing now that there was absolutely no way he was getting out of this. The only way it could have been even more impossible was if she ordered him to train with it.

" order you to train with your handaxe alongside your shied"

' Oh Come one!! Really Fate?!" He sighed as he took up a battle position, his patron taking her own stance. Both stances were near identical, with the shield facing forward whilst their weapons were held to their Side. For Kreig the stance was familiar, yet tainted as his weapon was not a sword, but something different in method and use.''

"Now, come attack me Kreig. Let see how well you fare" Kreig raised his brow skeptically, his patron was being quite serious. He raised his axe, his grip upon the shaft tightening, he stepped forward and swung it down. However the first sign of differences between the hand-axe and the Longsword was on full display, as Kreig incorrectly measure the distance between them as his Patron merely stepped back, not even a full step, as the blade of the axe missed by a large margin. This error of distance, combined with Kreig's own surprise, allowed his patron to close the distance easily as she raised her blade and the tip of the longsword was lightly pressed against his throat.

" Try again She said as she lowered her sword, stepped back agan and resumed a battle position. Kreig looked back down at the axe in his hand, annoyed but now knowing of at least one difference between the weapon and a longsword. He looked back at his patron, a look of challenge flaring in his eyes as he resumed battle position.

He moved forward, slamming the face of his shield against hers, trying to knock her off balance, indeed, for a moment she was pushed back, but then she herself retaliate with a slam of her own. Locking her shield with his then skillfully brought her sword over his shield, Kreig attempted to retaliate, to pull back, but as he pulled did his patrons blade ran against his shield arm....effectively 'severing' it.

The second round ended, Kreig sighed as his patron pulled away and took position once more. If it wasn't his total inexperiance with the axe then it was the just as abysmally inexperienced with his shield. His Patron motioned for him to try again...

....So again he will try.

This time he waited for her to attack, and attack she did as she closed the distance and struck hard with her sword as Kreig found himself forced far in the defense. She attacked his shield so rapidly that Kreig couldn't lower it in fear that an attack would break thought, at the same time he couldn't an opening for himself to exploit and strike with the axe. However, he needed to do something soon or else the strength in his arm will falter with every strike Natasha performed, in fact t is faltering. He could feel the strain forming in his arm, the enregy from his strikes transferring through his shield and into. He could feel his bones shake.

What should he do? Was there anything for him to do? He had no time, each strike against his shield represented a tick wasted, a tick he could use now instead of taking such blows that chip away at him. He couldn't deflect, he couldn't predict the timing nor was he confident, he couldn't swng his axe for there was no opening for him to exploit with his current level of skill. Yet he had no choice but to take a risk.....

Kreig, with no other choice he saw open to him, swung his shield just as his patron's blade came slamming against. He thought he had now created an oppening, a chance to exploit as he prepared to swing his from left to right. Suddenly, however, He found his patron's shield slamming in his face and chest, pushing back to the ground. He could feel blood forming in his mouth as he landed on his back. The iron taste told him that he was alive but defeated, that he had failed yet again.

Many failures....many failures.... He sat up and took a kneeling position, blood dripped from his nose and crawled over his lips He felt annoyed by this, it stung but not by much as droplets fell atop a few blades of grass before stopping. His right picked up the wooden hand-axe and he looked to his left to see that the shield was still secure.

His Patron looked at him with concern, she had struck too hard and felt guilt by this, but seeing Kreig taking it without much complaint somewhat eased her mind....although it did make her that got hurt far too often "Kreig, do you wish to continue?" Kreig simply nodded, it was training after all and sometimes you got hurt in training, his own pain was minor and thus not important. He tightened his grip on his axe as he took position, shield raised and ready.

As soon as his patron readied herself, Kreig stepped forward and swung his axe wildly, first beginning with a typical downward strike then followed with a side strike form right to left. However his patron could react to his movements as quickly as Kreig realized how sluggish his movements were, she need not even block as she simply stepped to the side and back to avoid each attack. Kreig then attempted another overhead strike, however his axe flew from his hands and tossed up into the air, landing somewhere on the battlefield.

Quickly he was put on the defensive as his patron again struck at him, again he was forced to hid behind his shield and this time he truly had no options but to rely on his fists, and whilst he was good with his fists this was a training for shield and axe. Thus, he could only stand there as his patron struck at his shield, then slammed it with her own, the shock travelling through his arm and body. Again she struck with her shield and this time he found himself on his knee, his shield raised overhead. Then it stopped....Kreig knew what that meant as he lowered his shield and looked at his patron, she was a bit devoid of emotion, but it was clear that there was no disappointment in her eyes. He was doing the best he could with what was given, and what was given were things that he needed time and training to get used to.... and that meant a lot of defeats.

He just had to deal with it.

There was only beatings awaiting him however, at this point instead of simply fighting him fully, instead of going all out; Natasha had held little of her power back but now that she knew the full extent of Kreig's power with both axe and shield, she would try to correct him....that meant as they sparred she would of course speak. And speak she did " Your grip is too lax Kreig!" She said as she blocked the with her shield and allowed Kreig to step back "[color-grip] By now you should have already adapted to the handle of the axe, fix it and try gain" Kreig nodded, the way he held the axe was loose, it was as if he was trying to wield a sword rather than an axe.

The handle of the axe was more rectangular than the round grip of his sword. If he needed a rough comparison, he would compare it to holding a splintered board from a broken crate or barrel. However, the grip was far smoother than such makeshift weapons, the handle of the axe was smooth and its edges were angular. This was meant to be held by a warrior, the handle was an appendage that had a fearsome and heavy bladed head at its other end. The balance of the weapon was also a factor, it was not balance as per its design, it was like a hammer with its power laying not in only a blade but the momentum, the force, the weight would bring.

He swung the axe again, trying to feel for the axe again, trying to adjust his grip until it was at its most comforting and once he found what he searched for, he swung the blade of the axe as it struck the shield in an overhead strike. Immediately, he was repelled the moment the axe's blade contacted the shield as his patron angled her shield with its face slamming against the flat of the axe blade. Kreig did not let go this time, not this time, but now he struggled to bring his own shield up.. He couldn't even bring it up, really, as Natasha's sword interrupted him by striking the upper rim of the shield and thrusting it forward and stabbed the left side of his torso.

Kreig let out a tsk, indeed, this early there was only defeat.
