New Meetings (Vayl)

Day 37, Spring 514AV

The day seemed to gently dapple across the lake's surface as she bent her proud head to lap up that cool water onto her tongue, quenching her thirst as her thoughts ran rampant through her mind.

Redd felt the gentle breeze ruffle through her thick red coat as it picked up gently, rustling the leaves above, playing their usual games. This particular wolf wasn't your normal grey wolf, in fact she was a deep red with black and brown strands which made her coat more of a mahogany colour really. White began just under her jaw and stretched along the under side of her neck before trailing along the under side of her belly and she stood about 2'8 in height from her shoulder.

Lifting her muzzle, her ears flickered forwards as her golden hues flickered across the lake's surface, watching the human's odd beast cross the surface of the lake. She never understood humans too well, but with a recent run in with a male human and another event with her mother told her to avoid them, so she practically lived in the wild trying to fend for herself.

Ravok itself confused her, as she never knew why people would like to live on top of a lake, just floating there. How did they kill food and supply their families with meat?

Shaking her head, she slowly moved to sit down, mindful of her injuries sustained two days ago and her ears flickered forwards once again as she viewed the grassy plain before the forest of trees from the lake's edge under her one solitary tree. She had four jagged streaks side by side, made from a claw trailing down her left side which had started to heal, seeing as they hadn't been as deep as it was originally thought of but still just as bad as her hind foot. She also had a fractured rib and a bite on her right hind foot from when she had just narrowly missed being torn to shreds by other wolves.

The recent lost of her connection to the pack made her stomach churn, reminding her of her apparent hunger and lack of food over the passed two days and she groaned inwardly, she would have to catch a small rabbit or something if this wolf wanted food to survive, or at least attempt to survive, seeing as she could no longer hunt with a pack.

Soon, she told herself, soon she would have to move on, because come winter time, if she hadn't found another pack, she would likely perish and a pang of loneliness crept through her being as she lifted her nose to the wind to scent out any prey. It was of course wishful thinking seeing as the smaller prey, or smaller animals tried to avoid going near the lake. It was of course mostly because of human activities and the more feral the beast, the more further away they were, which suited her just fine.

Slowly, getting to her paws, she sighed inwardly, padding forwards at a slow pace just so she didn't rip or jar any of her wounds as her hues watched for small game that she might be able to snap up into her powerful jaws. The wolf stayed within the view of the lake, making sure to keep it that way, because she wanted to be able to run without being hindered by sight or obstacles if she spotted a wolf from the last pack she had once called family.

New Meetings (Vayl)

Vayl stood at the bow of the ship as the sun rose ahead of him. The vibrant orange of the morning's light reflected beautifully off the still water, and rather pallidly off his skin, which remained as stubbornly stark white as possible. His amethyst coat was draped over his shoulders and gently flapped around in the breeze as he stood still, watching the water move aside to allow the boat to pass. The cold morning air made his eyes water, giving the appearance of tears that glistened in his equally bright lavender eyes. He smiled a ghost of a smile. How elegant.

Today, Vayl had a rather simple plan. He would get to know the port that connected to Ravok, as well as the immediate surrounding area, for security's sake. He rested his left hand over the pommel of his Katana. He liked to think it was not just a training weapon, but the real thing. He desperately needed money for that, and was barely eating to try and keep his living costs down.

He might do some training on the shore while he waited for the ferry to head back.

Slowly and meticulously, Vayl drew his sword. Left hand at the neck of the scabbard, right hand drawing it horizontally, before raising it above his head in both hands, and then holding it vertical in front of his eyes. This was one of the basic unsheathing lessons and he practised it whenever he had the chance. He loved its elegance and drama. Eventually Vayl caught sight of the shore, and sheathed the Katana, pausing for the final few inches of the blade and closing the gap obsessively slowly in front of his eyes.

The second the boat was in range of the shore Vayl hopped off deftly, coat streaming behind him as he landed softly on the sand. There was a small frown of discomfort as the some sand got inside his boots, but it was shaken off fast as he stood up, straightening to his full height.

------------------

Vayl sat on the shoreline cross legged, sword resting on his lap, sheathed. He passively stared into the air ahead of him as he soaked in the quiet and the gentle light of the late evening. The day had gone well. He had found some serviceable bolt holes for emergencies and had hidden some last minute provisions around the docks, including some of his, attempted, home made Bruka.

Hearing a soft splashing, he opened his eyes softly, and saw a wolf to his right, perhaps 30 paces away from him. He looked at it impassively, yet with interest. Well it was certainly not feral or hungry, indeed it looked rather worse for wear. Closing his eyes again, Vayl smiled gently. If the animal needed help it could approach him, if it needed a space for itself it knew which direction if would need to go, and if it was hungry, well he'd already be dead wouldn't he?

New Meetings (Vayl)

A rather odd scent caught her nose and an ear flickered back as her golden hues sort out this rather intriguing scent. It wasn't a scent that was normal around these parts. Around these parts, she was used to human scents but this one peaked her curiosity and her golden hues sort out this scent, her form pausing for a moment as they fell upon a person.

Was it a person? She asked herself as she angled her head slightly to the right, taking note of the pale figure and the colourful jacket. He was different some how and she quickly glanced behind her to make sure it wasn't some kind of trap.

Upon seeing nothing, she debated for a moment, wondering whether she should approach, instinct told her not to, because she did appear to be a beast, but seeing as her interest had been peaked, her curiosity won out and she began to make her slow way towards him, both of her ears pricking forwards, as her hunger for now, was forgotten.

When she was but only 15 paces away from the male, she paused for a moment, checking behind her to make sure that nothing was creeping up behind her. It was then that she stretched forward a little, scenting the air once more as she felt the familiar pain of her fractured rib and she leaned back so then it wouldn't hurt so much, an ear flickering back as she did so.

Angling her head slightly to the right, her golden hues watched him for a few moments, as she pondered his strange scent. He didn't smell like a normal human and it puzzled her, he certainly looked like one from where she stood. He seemed as if he was relaxed and she began to think, maybe she could approach him, just to see what was so different about him to make his scent so different to humans.

She took a couple more paces towards him, when she paused once again. She didn't want to appear threatening to him, that would just give him an excuse to attack. She lowered her ears and her head, her golden hues watching his body for any signs of aggression before she padded forwards once more at a slower pace, stopping once she was only but a couple of paces away.

Redd, now that she had a better view of him, took a deep breath, drawing in that odd scent of his as she pondered why this man was different from the humans. Her head angled to the right again as an ear flickered forwards while her right flickered back, making sure to stay weary for a trap. Was it his white hair that made him different?

Vayl watched with interest as the animal approached him. His eyes unfocussed slightly as his mind tried to understand why the wolf was being so lucid. Eventually the slight widening of his pupils and a twitch in the corner of his mouth signalled him recollecting the Kelvic research centre in Ravok.

So this was a Kelvic then. He pulled his hood down, and shook his head softly, freeing his thin, straight mop of hair. His startling mauve eyes turned to lock onto the ani-.. person's own eyes and he looked into them deeply. There was certainly something human in them. Animals eyes were glassy, impassive, looking for the next meal. This -He glanced in between the wolf's legs- this woman's eyes showed some degree of sadness to them. He guessed he wasn't the only one with a troubled past.

Well he assumed this is where he needed to make introductions, and the kelvic had clearly been sniffing. Vayl extended his arm slowly, black talons glistening, and held his hand out in front of her nose. He assumed he smelt vastly different to the humans around here, and indeed was secretly proud that he was, he hated to be generalised with their breed.

His eyes refocussed on the wolf, and he opened his mouth softly, licking his lips before speaking.

"I'm Vayl, kelvic." he stated softly, anticipating that her hearing might be as sensitive as his.

New Meetings (Vayl)

Postby Redd on April 27th, 2014, 12:02 pm

Redd had been well and truly prepared for an attack as it was mostly safe to say out here, that people wouldn't realise that she was more than a beast and her golden hues watched him as he seemed to re-call something from memory.

As she felt his odd coloured eyes lock onto her own, she had taken a step back her ears flickering backwards as she tried to ponder as to why he would do such a thing, it was certainly not something a human would have done. They would have cried wolf and chased her with what they called weapons, perhaps he knew or could see she was more than a beast?

When he held out a hand out to her, she was once again, taken by surprise and her hearing caught his softly spoken words. His name was Vayl? Her left ear flickered forward as she pondered the word Kelvic, she hadn't heard it before but she guessed that was what he had called her.

Her golden hues flickered over the offered hand and she took the last remaining three paces forward, noting that he had strange black claws and it continued to puzzle her as to why he continued to smell strange.

Slowly, both her ears flickered forwards as she nuzzled her wet, black nose along the back of his hand, careful to avoid the claws as she continued to scent up along his arm. She stopped just before his shoulder as she felt the fractured rib give off a small bout of pain and she shifted her weight so then it was even on her four paws again.

It was then that her tongue darted out to lick the back of his hand, a small wag of her tail given at this. She wasn't exactly sure of the right protocol for this kind of situation as she had never been in one such as this, but as she found out, he also tasted a little strange. She had bitten humans before but only out of defense. So to find that he not only smelled different but tasted different, made the young wolf relax just that little bit.

Her right hind foot began to throb a little which reminded her that she needed to give it a break, simply because she didn't want the wound that was trying to heal, to break open once again. So, she laid down before the male, making sure to keep her movements slow, she didn't want to appear threatening after-all.

Her golden hues watched him at this and she would have shifted if she could, but she was indeed hungry so she would have to hunt before she would be able to shift once more. It was then that another realisation came over her and she wasn't exactly sure how she could tell him what her name was and she angled her head to the right again in thought. A small whine passing her maw as she tried to work out how she might be able to tell him. She would probably have to wait and then tell him when she could shift.

Vayl shuddered almost imperceptibly when he was licked. It made him feel so uncomfortable.. Eventually the assault finished and the she-wolf lay down slowly in front of him.

Vayl smiled, eyes glistening in the now setting sun. The pair of them cast a long shadow across the gentle slopes of sand. The boat to Ravok would be leaving soon. Vayl glanced down at the slowly breathing form in front of him, and then at the brightly glowing docks some distance to himself.

Sheepishly, he slowly lowered a hand to the wolf's head and stroked its ears softly, hoping she'd find some comfort. He'd stay here, find a roof to sleep on at the docks.

Vayl's hand stopped suddenly, yet smoothly. He'd noticed some fur was missing, and there was a gash on her back leg. His face seemed to grow impassive, as if the cruelty of what had been done to the Kelvic was too much to bear.

"You're injured." he stated, reaching into his pockets and producing a thin white length of cloth. He was about to cut it when he paused. Slowly he made a point of moving away from the wolf, and closed his right hand into a fist. In between his index and third finger stood a three inch long blade, held to his hand by some thing leather straps. It glinted a little darker than normal steel, and with good reason. He'd paid all of his world possessions back in Kalinor for this. Cold-steel. Never grows warm, never grows dull. It'd saved his life a couple of times and was always to hand whenever he needed something cut or sliced. Including... He looked down at the ground in shame

Including the times when I cut myself

He rolled up his left sleeve to show the kelvic a heavily bandaged arm, which had the same material as a bandage, a little stained with crimson in places. He'd need to change the binding tonight most likely.

"I'm just going to bandage your wounds in the same way I have done mine" he said calmly, making no attempt to be close to the animal while he had a weapon out. Slowly he cut a length of cloth out of the roll he was carrying and "sheathed" his fingerblade, although in actuality you could not sheath it, only hide it in between your outstretched fingers.

He smiled slightly to himself as his lavender eyes glittered and scanned across the wound as he bound it. Firmly, but hopefully not painfully. When he finished he shuffled back next to the wolf's head and rested a hand behind her ears.

"I'm glad I could be of service. After all, I owe you for the company you've provided me with." he muttered to no one in particular. He didn't even know if this Kelvic, assuming she was one, could understand him as an animal. But regardless the animal had made his day more bearable, his life worth suffering for a bit longer.

After all, he was just looking for a companion to share life with.

New Meetings (Vayl)

Postby Redd on April 27th, 2014, 9:59 pm

Redd had been enjoying the evenings, but this one was different, someone was enjoying it with her. It was strange in a way, she had never had someone who wanted to willingly be in her company. The only event she could say that she had spent time in the company of someone, was with a human male when they had been treed by wolves and he had mostly certainly didn't want to be there.

Her golden hues noticed his glistening eyes as the sun have begun to set and she was most intrigued by it, she hadn't seen glistening eyes before. It was then that she felt a hand upon her head and felt her ears being stroked softly. If she was a cat, she would have purred but she closed her eyes and nuzzled her head closer to him, loving those gentle strokes. It was a first, to feel a gentle hand instead of one that meant to hurt.

Yet as soon as she had felt this gentle hand, it stopped and her eyes snapped open and her head lifted to scent the air for humans and predators, suddenly weary that he had sensed some kind of danger that she had not. She then heard his words as he stated that she was injured and she looked back to the male, was this the reason why he had stopped?

The golden hues watched his movements as he produced cloth before moving away from her, which puzzled the wolf until he produced a small blade. This made her jump back to her paws, suddenly unsure what he was going to do, an ear flickering back, but she watched him closely, as he rolled up his sleeve to reveal his own bandaged arm. At this both ears flickered forward, listening to his words, but remained looking at the bandaged arm. What had happened to him?

When he had cut cloth and "sheathed" his small blade, she felt him bound the wound firmly and she turned her head to watch this. He was indeed strange, never had someone ever done such a thing for this wolf. When his hand returned back to her head, resting behind her ears, she closed her golden hues, listening to his words quietly.

She would have argued that it was he who had done a great deal for her, seeing as no one had ever been this gentle to her before, but instead, she growled softly, almost as if in an argument to his words, before she gave another small wag of her tail.

Gently she lifted her muzzle so then her teeth could gently take hold of a piece of material of his coat and gently tugged, almost as if saying, 'Come with me.' Then, she let the piece of material go as she turned to pad off in the opposite direction of the docks, heading towards her small little cave.

She wanted to show him where she was so then if he ever wanted to visit, he could, but she didn't pin her hopes on it. It was just a fleeting idea, that he might, seeing as he had shown a rare shred of kindness to her. Maybe, he might even wait for her to hunt so then she could shift, to talk to someone other than herself would be... Strange, but she imagined that it might be nice.

First, she had to show him the cave, it was about three hundred yards away from the docks, but still along the shore line of the lake. Not too close to human activity, but also far away from predator eyes. She paused to turn her head, making sure that he was following.

Vayl looked on with a sad smile as the wolf padded away, and walked after her slowly. Seemed she wanted to lead him somewhere.

It felt... odd. His heart, which was always either cold with impassiveness or torn to shreds with sorrow, was almost reaching out to the wolf in front of him. Was this what friendship felt like? If this was just a wolf, then he had a companion, and that comforted him.

But if she was kelvic.. he'd

Actually have gained a friend.

A soft tear ran down his cheek, which he never wiped off and let run down his cheek. Picking up his Katana from its resting place on the beach, he slipped it through his belt, in the traditional style it was worn, at his left hip.

Setting off after the wolf he pulled his hood deep over his head. The walking reminded him of the harvest. He'd walked so far...

She angled her head to the right, not exactly sure why a tear had began to run down his cheek, but the sight of the tear was soon gone as the male flicked up his hood to cover his face. She padded with a small limp back to him, rubbed her furred body against him to give him some kind of comfort before padding away from the docks.

Occasionally, she had stopped to sniff at a random scent, making sure it wasn't wolf before continuing on, until they were three hundred yards away from the docks and she paused for a moment, waiting for the male to catch up.

In front of them was a copse, pushing passed those trees and a few bushes was then a small cave opening, the cave entrance big enough to fit a 5'8 person. It was basically built into the small hill that was mostly overlooked due to the copse, so she had made a home of it and she padded in through the entrance.

It was bare really, the only thing inside was her back pack and in the corner was a hole in the ground similar to a bowl shape, it was what she considered to be a bed. The bowl shape of the earth helped her keep some kind of warmth when it got cold.

She stopped and turned to the male, her ears pricking forwards as she wagged her tail, almost as if she was saying, 'Welcome to my den.'

Vayl paused in fear as the wolf rubbed against him, before relaxing slightly, visibly drooping a couple of inches. He thought he was going to be attacked. That thought led his mind on to how friendly the creature was being.. Could this be a trap?

That worry was dashed when he walked into a cave. Stooping down to fit through the entrance, he rested a hand on the ceiling and pulled his hood back, looking around with interest. It may have been dark for the wolf, but it was just as clear as day time was for him. There was a small indent in the ground and a backpack, so Kelvic was seeming more likely. Smiling faintly in interest he stooped down and ran a clawed hand along the inside of the bowl shaped hole. He felt something thin between his fingers, and he pinched them together, bringing it up to his face. Small golden-yellow hairs. So this was definitely her space. Squinting in concentration, Vayl reached over to the backpack and ran his hand over it. The same coloured hair, yet much longer and thinner, was on the backpack. It looked human to his opinion.

"So you are Kelvic" he muttered squinting at the two different hairs. They were definitely identical in colour, but different in composition.

He glanced outside. It was dark.

"Would you like to sleep? I'll keep watch through the night if you like." he smiled as warmly as bleach white skin and fangs could allow.
