She had been taken. She was not sure how she had been taken, or why she had been taken, or even who had taken her, and she definitely didn’t know where she was being taken to. But the fact remained that she was now no longer in the safety of the Citadel, nor near the comfort and security that Annalisa, the magical woman, had offered her. Instead, she found herself on yet another boat.

--

That day had been another day of nothing. Against leaving the stone walls of her room in the Citadel, Kalina had spent a large portion of the day tracing the various markings and blemishes on the wall with her finger. If the marks actually spelled anything out, Kalina would not have been able to tell, but she remembered being in Annalisa’s room, and seeing the strange squiggles that had been written down on the scrolls and parchments. Back then, she had drawn over those letters, and her curiosity for the written word had been piqued.

Still, the young Kelvic was bored; it had been a number of days since she had seen Annalisa, or any of her other slaves. Worse than bored, Kalina was lonely. The child, who thrived on attention, felt unfathomably isolated in her new home. She was to avoid those who smelt so foul, which she was happy to do, but they consisted of most of the population. Other than Volanaro, she had not seen another child, and there were not many who smelt like Annalisa. So her days on the dead island were spent alone.

In the silence of the day, Kalina had heard footsteps, but it did not occur to her that it would be her door to open. The time that she had to react was too small, however, as she had felt a sharp prick in her thigh. As she swung her paw – with sharp claws extended - towards her attacker, it shifted, along with the rest of her body, to become human. But she could not even begin to comprehend what had just happened, as she felt a slow, white fog drift over her mind.

Flashes covered her body, fast rates as she felt her form uncontrollably shift between human and ocelot until, finally, exhaustion took over. Voices were muffled over her prone body as her world finally dimmed and she slipped into unconsciousness.
