5th of fall 514

It was bloody windy today and that made the entire day a lot more miserable then it had to be. The old man had skimped on the meat he had to skimp on the portions, which ended up in a butload of complaints aimed at him. Luckely he was able to see the old man get a black eye from an irate customer before the day had been out. Made that part of the day completely worth it. So despite the cold there was a bit of a happy spring in his step as he walked towards his home.

That spring in his step quickly left when he saw a small piece of paper stuck to his door. Dmitri, that thief needed him again it seemed. Well he better make it worth his while this time. Last time he asked for his help they both came out worse for it. He quickly read through the note. Food store, this evening, check it out before hand. There wasn't much on it. For anybody else this just might be a grocery list.

He only remembered the most important things of it before shredding the note and he went on his way, scowl on his face and half a mind to curse Zulraf for sending this chilling wind to petch sunberth over today. But he just pulled his coat tighter about himself to keep the wind out and started his way towards the food store Dmitri had been talking about. It wasn't that far away. So that at least was one good thing in this entire thing.

He arrived at the foodstore. From the outside it didn't look much, the construction didn't look as if it was going to fall down either. So the owner had more miza's then the average guy to spend. He walked inside to take a look. Would be nice to know where the merchandise was if dmitri was going to break in. At first glance, it wasn't anything that different then the food stalls on the market. Just that the merchandise was inside. A young man was standing behind the counter, and the food was in crates carefully organized in the small space. A door behind the counter led towards the back. Raus didn't know what was back there. He casually browsed the goods, the amount of things the store was selling was slowly dropping, but it wasn't getting as bad as with the rest of the outside stores. The prices however, those were outright ripoffs. He really felt the urge to deck whoever was in charge when he saw them. Just because you were still stocking mostly fresh fruit when the rest of the city was almost out of it. Didn't mean you were allowed to ramp up the bloody price that much. You wouldn't be able to sell a thing if you increased it this much! A last look around, no windows aside two very small ones at the front of the store, to show of the merchandice but those were firmly secured with iron bars.

He just grumbled in disappointment and left the bloody store. He wasn't able to find an opening in this place. He walked back out and did a quick brisk walk around the block. Viewing the other sides of the store. It looked as if the owner had build their house in it, since it was large enough for that. There were a few unbarred windows at the right side. And there was a back door to get inside the house. How Dmitri was going to pull this one off he didn't know. Maybe he had already done some research by himself. But knowing him, he would be harping on him if he hadn't done this first.

He just walked to the corner of the street. Able to see the store, but not close enough for him to be really suspicious. Now he just had to wait on Dmitri.

"Are you kidding me, boy'o ? I'm not going to pay these prices for some shyked-on vegetables, petch yourself!"

Dmitri snapped at the lad behind the counter, who seemed to be able to rival Dmitri's coldhearted apathy as he just stood there, facial expression on bored-amusedness state. Nearly breaking his teeth by clenching them so hard because of this petching son of a hog, he had to fight the urge to reach in, grab him by the back of the head and ram him facefirst into the counter. But yeah, Dmitri maintained his composure, sorta, he did take an apple before walking out.

"You gnna pay for that?!"

"What if I'm not, boy'o?"

Dmitri called out to the boy, even going as far as stopping in his tracks for a moment. He would've loved it if the lad would've been baited into getting his face broken. But no, all he did was slightly lean his head on one shoulder and look at Dmitri, baiting him instead of the other way around. Dmitri, already having taken a bite from the apple, just mimicked the boy's action before leaving a seemingly bluffing message, to which the boy was unsurprisingly immune to.

"I'll be back, boy'o."

"I'll be here."

The lad couldn't see it, but Dmitri grinned as if having been given carte blanche on the field of injustice. And so he walked away, munching on the stale apple, up to Cheap Side where he only remained for a few minutes. Before leaving again with a piece of paper neatly folded into his pockets. After a short time he seemed to have arrived at the right place to leave it, as soon the paper found itself pinned to a seemingly random door. Dmitri had a symbiotic relationship with the 'owner of the door', Raus. They didn't want eachother but from time to time they needed one another. Some could say they complemented the other in terms of fields they excelled more at than the other.

Raus was far from the worst of Sunberth, not that he was above stealing of others and such, but he wasn't evil incarnate. Dmitri was closer to being such a thing than Raus, undeniably. Dmitri could steal from an orphan and not give two shykes, he doubted Raus could do the same. Not that it mattered, as long as he did his job, he'd be his beeeestest buddybudbud.

Anyway, now that the message had been planted, there was no turning back. Dmitri wasn't the type to be unprofessional or not trustworthy in this aspect, sure, he could be considered a backstabbing two-faced and ruthless bastard, but when it came down to it...He plays the game by the rules, might bend them from time to time but rarely breaks them!

Either way, he spent the remainder of the time, after having scouted the place himself from a fair distance and as best as he could, which wasn't anything worthy to write to his uncle about, waiting on Raus in one of the inns. Every half bell he went near the target to check if he could find the ruffian, until he spotted his comrade-in-crime! It was a shame he couldn't have done more beforehand, he was limited in options though since after his 'bluff' he couldn't get too close to the store in order to limit the risk of drawing the highly unwanted attention from the counterboy.

"Hey man, how's things?"

Dmitri used the vaguest and most normal sounding question he could think, in case someone was within hearing distance, but with much more depth than at first glance. It wasn't the first time the 2 'law abiding citizens' worked together, nor the first time they had used this 'conversation' so Raus should have no problem answering the hidden meaning of the question, if he had done his job anyway.

Raus' let out a grunt as he heard dmitri's voice and his vague question. Great they were playing this little game again. At first the thief's habit to speak only in vague wordings when talking about any job just confused him even now, while he usually managed to figure out what he was was babbling about responding in the same vague babble like the bastard usually wanted him to do was a lot harder. He never had really seen a use in couching what he said in vague language. He liked being direct, in word and deed.

So instead of trying to be vague and just mangle the entire message he gave a look around to check if nobody important was around and then looked up at Dmitri. “Not good. Locked up tighter then a virgin. Bars at the front and the sides. Backdoor might be a try with it. Or just making an extra door.” Raus said as he crossed his arms. Adding his own two coppers.“But I think the owner of the door and walls might hear that if we try it. So what have you cooked up on your end to get through, Dmitri?”

Because even though dmitri had asked him to do some scoping out, he would bet his house on the fact he did some snooping himself. This was Dmitri, what he knew from the man is that he died his hair every so often just so people wouldn't figure out where he enjoyed to eat. The guy lived for getting to know the dirty little holes and secrets of everybody. A time ago he had wondered why dmitri even bothered taking him on these burglary jobs. But then he saw the guy fight with his dagger and get his arse handed to him on a silver platter. An angry housecat could take him in a fight and probably win. So he just waited to get some more info from Dmitri. Hopefully he would be talking straight.

The mutual contempt between the 'allies' was apparent to everyone who'd witness their interaction, including one another, but so was their need for one another. Dmitri couldn't care less about how the ape in clothes felt about his way of doing things, if anything he'd confirm it. That is if he trusted him farther than he could use him, when Raus sighed and started looking around for witnesses, painfully careless and obvious, Dmitri knew the time of day and waited for the most cryptic words he could expect from the boar'ish lad.

“Not good. Locked up tighter then a virgin. Bars at the front and the sides. Backdoor might be a try with it. Or just making an extra door...But I think the owner of the door and walls might hear that if we try it. So what have you cooked up on your end to get through, Dmitri?”

It was almost not as bad as he expected! That is until Raus started to throw in his cringing input to the matter, making an extra door was just...Just special. But that didn't get Dmitri's hand and face twitchy, the careless use of Dmitri's name being thrown out in the open was...But it did its job, it opened his eyes a bit more to the danger of confiding in others too much. Independance only comes with proficiency, knowledge and courage though. And Dmitri was still lacking in all 3 to be considered 'operationally independant'. But once he was, he'd make sure to tie the loose ends of his past. With a brotherly smile he nodded as if Raus had spoken something in a tone of voice that only Dmitri could've heard.

"Alright, good work! It goes without saying I trust you aren't making this shyke up. Since if you do, we're both in for a world of hurt at the hands of the Mob, if they find out we've been cutting their food supply even shorter than it is..."

Leaving out the point Raus inadvertenly made about his liability to Dmitri's own safety, he forced himself to drop it for the time being and focus on the job at hand. Truthfully, he hadn't been able to do much other than notice one important keypoint, with the help of Lady Luck.

"They have guards inside their back-end rooms, can't say exactly how many but at the very least there is one guard stationed there. I'd say we go for the backdoor or any other opening there is that isn't visible from the main road. I brought some equipment that might prove useful as well."

Of course Dmitri wasn't going to share that his 'modus operandi' for finding out that important info was casually strolling in the vicinity to see if Raus had arrived, only to stop at the corner they were 'chitchatting' at now, because of a guy taking a leak in the side alley of the shop before going back into the building. Granted, he didn't have much to go on, but the gladius hanging by the guy's side wasn't there to compliment the brute's beautiful eyes, assumed Dmitri.

"Let's move! I'll play the drunk leaning guy this time, ease into the alley to vomit, don't petch this up!"

Dmitri threw his arm around Raus' shoulder and mentally prepared himself, trying his best to glaze his eyes, lower his drifting face so the clerk hopefully won't recognize him and act motionsick as the pair started to move, Dmitri could only imagine the look on Raus' face as the pair moved as one. Dmitri wobbly on his feet like a newborn calf and occasionally blowing up his cheek and make grunting sounds as if desiring nothing more than to throw up on Raus' feet right there and then.

That brotherly smile on Dmitri's face really creeped him out. He was very glad he didn't know what the sneak was thinking when he smiled like that. Probably wasn't anything good. He better keep a firm eye on his own back the next few day's no matter if he was involved in the smile. If dmitri was smiling, it wasn't good news for anybody but that guy. He just nodded at the warning, as if he didn't know that.

“you know just as much as me that I don't make stuff up.” He scoffed. It was bad enough one half of the team was feeding the other guy bad info and withheld whatever info he wanted if it came out right. If they both did that they probably would end up dead because they petched up and he didn't know bout Dmitri, but he rather enjoyed being alive and breathing.

He listened to the plan. Seemed good enough. Of course the bastard didn't fill him on the tools he was gonna use, but it was probably a set of lockpicks or something similar.

Then without a warning Dmitri hung over him, weighing down on him. Raus looked at him with confusion and a lot of anger, raising a fist to punch the heavier and taller fellow of him if he didn't explain what the petch he was doing very fast. Luckily for Dmitri's teeth he quickly explained. Just drag him to the alley next to the store. He guessed the guy was trying to cover it all up by acting like that. He better play along, but still he was very glad he left all his money at home so the guy couldn't pickpocket him.

“Don't ya dare puke on me or I'll knock ya out.” Raus growled as he dragged the acting Dmitri to the alley he had told him about. It didn't take him very much to act like the annoyed friend of a drunk. He was pretty annoyed at the guy and he did some good acting as a drunk. He swayed, made awefull sounding grunts and leaned on the shorter raus with all his weight. Eventually though they made it in the ally Dmitri had told him to drag him towards. As soon as they were deep enough inside the alley to avoid most general notice he let go of dmitri and simply kept an eye out for any interlopers that might come. Leaving Dmitri to work his magic with his tools.

Food raid

Postby Dmitri Saratov on November 10th, 2014, 4:35 pm

Dmitri's drunken ramblings and antics weren't too badly done, except for his over the top hurling sounds. In general he tried to keep the sounds he made realisticly incoherent and equally annoying to on-lookers, yet not loud enough to draw undesired attention from the very one he had to throw this entire play for. As with his lies, he inadvertently threw in truth with his acting as he stumbled almost over his feet while trying to drift from left to right and maintain shaky knees as he growled and mumbled "I'mma keal yew!!" Which was mainly directed towards the opposite end of the self-proclaimed vendetta he started with the counterboy.

Truth be told, this was more a personal feud than a desire to fill his stomach, let alone his partner's. But he did not need to know that, actually he really really shouldn't know that, more so for Dmitri's safety than anything else. Monkey see; Monkey does. As long as Dmitri kept the monkey's sight on the job at hand, he doubted Raus would notice something. After a ridiculously annoying walk for both of the men, they arrived at the alley. Dmitri had to admit, Raus wasn't really a monkey, thinking ahead to the point of not stopping and giving in to his desire to drop Dmitri on his face, before they reached the far end of the alley, out of harm's way and sight.

Without a word, Raus let go quicker than a hand holding a lit torch at the wrong end. Dmitri was too uncaring to notice the insultive action and simply scanned the area for something, anything, they could use to enter this petching place. His eyes lingered on a few possible entries for a moment, but none of them seemed to make the cut for him as they all held too many risks.

First there was the obvious one, the backdoor, which would no doubt result in a loud and deadly brawl between the guards and Raus, while Dmitri would make a run for it as fast as his 'drunk legs' could carry him. Honor, morals, ethics and all those fancy shmancy words had nothing to look for in a place like Sunberth, or a man like Dmitri. Then there was a fairly small barred window at eye height. Dmitri could get in there, but he doubted Raus could with his broadshouldered body. Letting Dmitri get in to fight the guards, if needed, was about as useful as poking a bear with a toothpick. The last entrance he dismissed as useless was a wooden board giving entrance to the cellar of the house, but it had a chain attached to something from the other end, keeping the board in place by being chained to a metal noose in its center. He could possibly get through there by pouring acid on the noose holding the chain in place, but there was a high chance the chain would fall on stone or metal, alarming the guards.

Dmitri was about to whine and rage at Raus, but just as he turned he spotted a half-circular entry into the basement, barred by 3 horizontal metal poles. But it was large and high enough to give entry to both of them, would be soundless and as far as he could tell the drop wasn't high either! So, the choice was made and Dmitri got to work. Taking out the vials of acid he had carefully placed in one of the more secure pouches in his burglar's vest, he crouched down and slowly poured half a vial on one side of a metal bar, and the other half on the other side. Doing the same for the 2 other bars, he waited as the acid gnawed its way through the metal before testing the middle one. He almost let out a yelp of surprise and celebration as he tumphed on his ass with one of the bars in his hands, before giving up and calling out to Raus to give'm a strongman hand!

"Once that's done, sneak in through here first, I'm right behind you. If at all possible, do not alert any guards! I'll take post to keep you cover while you search the basement for anything useful and eadible! If someone comes, I'll try to take'm out quietly. If you do actually hear a sound, come running!"

Raus got closer when Dmitri told him to help with the iron bars and grabbed one. He braced himself and started pulling. It was sunberth, so the iron used in the construction was pretty shoddy, the acid just made his job a lot easier. With a final heave the bar he had been pulling on slipped lose and he gently put it beside him. Even he knew enough bout sneaking that making noise probably wasn't going to a good thing. He grabbed hold of the second bar that was still barring their path and with a heavy effort he pulled that one out of the wall as well. He didn't drop this one. He was pretty sure that he was supposed to go first into the basement and a heavy bar usually helped with 'convincing' any guards he noticed to keep quiet. Hard to speak with a caved in skull

“yeah, I'm going.” I said back in a quiet voice. Not really wanting to tip anybody off. Before I crawled through the opening into the basement, barely squeezing through. Raus was slightly pleased to see that the basement was being kept dry and clean, no rat droppings anywhere he could see. That was good. Meant the food wouldn't be dirty. Anyway he didn't have time to admire the cleanliness of their storage room. He had to start nicking shit before the guards arrived.

Keeping his ears open for any sound out of the ordinary. He took his backpack off his back and started to root through the crates, bags and other containers for foodstuff's that looked filling and not rotten. Seemed like this store had some good quality, there wasn't a lot of bad looking produce in this place. He just hoped that Dmitri was doing his job and kept a good lookout.

oocI hope this is okay.. not much happening. But the only thing I could let happen was that somebody came to get something from storage. Don't want to 'end' our thieving that fast ^^; feel free To PM me some suggestions.

Dmitri followed Raus into the basement shortly after his feet disappeared through the opening into the darkness. Being thin and leaner than Raus, he didn't have much difficulty getting through the opening, al though he did put his hand somewhere goo'y which almost made him curse out loud as he could only imagine what rodentpiss he just shaked hands with...

After pushing himself off the cold and damp floor, he squinted his eyes trying to adjust to the dimly lit room, figuring this would cause some issues as they needed to sift out the worthwhile goods, since they had limited carrying capacity after all. Looking around, he saw a small onehanded torch hanging near a corner of the wall, so he took hold of it and tried to remove it from its circular handle...Only for it to fall on one of the barrels loud enough for Dmitri to get nauseous with his own stupidity. But still he acted fairly quickly and, after letting the torch rest on the ground, he swiftly placed himself on the other end of the room, around the corner of its only entrance and waited there with his crux-weapon in one hand, hoping Raus would have the sense in him to hide somewhere nearby as well.

Dmitri could feel his heart pounding in his throat and ears, it resonated so loud he feared it could be heard by everyone in the damned street. The cold sweat on the palm of his hand as he held the crux-stiletto close to his chest, was an unpleasant sign of his amateurism still. He shouldn't have made the first mistake to begin with, letting that metal circle fall, but unable to cope with twists and turns in plans is inexcusable as well. Gripping the handle over and over again with his aching, itchy fingers, he waited for someone, if anyone, to come and check out the origin of the sound. It was almost as if he was praying, holding a rosemary close to his heart and with eyes closed as if lost in faith. While in reality he was busy cursing the Deities and closing his eyes to let his ears do their best.

After a while, without hearing anything, he opened his eyes, ready to move out from his hiding spot satisfied with the time spent on waiting what didn't come. That was until he registered what was going on only a feet or two away from him, a guard was sneaking into the room, less audible than Dmitri and Raus could ever be and holding a shortsword in his righthand as he hunched over while carefully placing inaudible steps at his own careful pace. It was only luck that had saved them both from a good ol' lynching, if Dmitri had been less patient or moved even a finger beforehand, they would be in for it realllll good...

But now the ball was in their court, and Dmitri was going for the win. His mind raced at insane speeds as he thought of how to best approach this situation, slow and steady without trying to make a sound or simply jump on him and end his life? He was being stupid and indecisive, too scared really to make a move. Until it hit him that the man, al though slow as a turtle, was getting out of range to make any move without alerting possible others. Dmitri flipped his switch and simply walked out of his hidden position, not even caring about the sound he made in the darkness. Not too loud but audible enough to make the man halt in his tracks and get on guard, but he traced the sound in the accoustic room from behind him, slightly too late. As he straightened his spine, Dmitri's hand was already over his mouth and the thin blade of the stiletto had already pierced his chest and heart area half a dozen times as Dmitri did his utmost best to keep the man in check by force of his locked on arm.

It was almost a success, almost, until Dmitri's eyes look down on the ground, at the shortsword that fell clattering on the floor, after his ears heard the sound without really registering it.

"Son of a whore!"

Dmitri's face turned white, whiter than it already was, and quickly turned on the spot with the lifeless body of his victim still latched onto, he couldn't really see the man's face in the dark but what he did saw was the glint of the one handed warhammer or mace in the man's right hand.

'Shyke!'

Raus looked up from his work as Dmitri dropped the torch. Giving a quick look towards Dmitri. No Way in hai that the guard wouldn't have heard that ruckus. He ducked behind a few stacked crates and peered between a crack at the door and dmitri who hid around the corner of the door Probably because he wanted to try and get a crack at the guard with his guard down. Raus just gripped the iron bar tighter. Ready to jump in when Dmitri petched that up. He had seen him fight and he wasn't impressed in the least with what he could do. And so he waited for any sign of a guard approaching. Hoping that maybe, any of the guards didn't hear what Dmitri or him had done or just ignored it as a rat. Neither of them would be that lucky of course. A guard stalked into the room. Making no noise. If he hadn't been looking at the bloody door he wouldn't have heard him come in and he probably would have been shanked if he had allowed that guy to sneak up on him. Raus didn't just rush at the guy. He seemed to know how to use that sword of his and he could hear something coming from down the corridor? Another guard or two? Was it just the sound of something else? He didn't know and so he hunkered down a bit and waited.

Dmitri didn't wait though, as soon as the guard was in his reach he got out of his hiding place ran up to him grabbed a hold of him and started stabbing the guy over and over in the chest. The guy dropped his shortsword after the first few stabs. That guy had to be dead. Raus almost came out of his hiding place righ then.

'Son of a whore!' He heard somebody yell, he had been so focused htat he completely missed the new guy walking into the room. A mace in his hand and a murderous look on his face as he glared at Dmitri before swinging his mace at the guy.

Raus popped up from behind the crates he had been hiding behind. HE didn't like Dmitri, but he wasn't about to let him die just because he didn't like the asshole. “Oi, petcher. Eat this!” Raus yelled as he reared back his arm. He also really hoped that Dmitri had the sense to duck out of the way. He threw the iron bar he had been holding right at the guy with the warhammer.

Whether or not Dmitri had the sense to duck out of the way of a flying metal bar going straight at his head, remains a mystery...As he was forced to dive out of the way anyway, not many are moronic enough to try and take a direct hit from a charging bull swinging a mace at him, not that Dmitri cared but he doubted he lost 'street cred' from duck-diving straight out of harm's way and scramble back up as soon as possible to hide behind Raus. Thankfully Dmitri's faithful minion, cough, yelled something out as soon as he hit the floor, Dmitri figured it was probably some sort of insult about not having dropped his pair yet, until he saw something flash by as he turned his head to locate Raus fast.

"Eat this!" were the only words actually processed in Dmitri's mind as the adrenaline pumped between his ears hard enough to give him a petching headache, all he was thinking of was getting out of this close-quarters deathmatch with the rampaging warhammer-wielding maniac.

'Eat this?! Eat what?! Who the hell even talks like that?!'

The ridiculously inappropriate moment to think about questions like that, almost made Dmitri crack a grin about the absurdity of it all, that was until he heard a loud thump followed by a beastial groaning roar of pain and rage, at that point in time Dmitri was already back up on his feet and circled the center pillar to join Raus...And the nearby exit. His mind and heart racing, Dmitri could not come up with a way for both of them to make it out of there unscathed even with the dazed and hurt bull over there. Someone had to sacrifice himself for the other, or they both had to stay and fight. Dmitri wasn't about to sacrifice himself like a lamb for slaughter, not for Raus and not for everyone. He wasn't sure but...No, he was sure, Raus wasn't going to sacrifice himself for Dmitri either. He'd probably cut his ankles just so he could make it out first, that dog!

"RUSH'M!"

Dmitri shouted as he kicked off and started running as fast as he could towards the disoriented and wounded bear of a man, Somehow his feet felt like lead, his muscles cried out in pain, joints and bones grinding to dust as his mind and heart told'm to make it time. He couldn't figure out why, maybe it was fear, but he couldn't bear to look at what he was running to, keeping his head low enough to only look at the bear's hairy ankles. It was actually probably better if he hadn't raised his face just before impact, he definitely had to have changed his pants now as just before he made the last 2 steps to bullrush the man, he looked up and stared right into the infuriated eyes of the man who was about to wind up his overhead slam with the mace.

"PETCH YA!"

Dmitri shouted out loud as he jumped into the man's chest, shoulder first, as hard as he could. Toppling the bastard over as he could hear the metal clanks of the mace fall on the ground a fair distance away, he was unarmed now!

'The tables have turned you son of a who---No, no wait, I'm choking...'
