Her cheeks went a bit pink. She hadn't meant to give him the impression that she thought he needed to replace his clothing. His clothes were quite functional, and the stitching was fascinating to her. She'd really love to get a closer look, but that would probably be rude. Airil was a little disappointed that he didn't seem to be interested in anything in the market. But perhaps there was just nothing of interest nearby. She let go of the cloth she had been fondling as the shopkeeper approached, and moved away from the stall. Perhaps it would be better to just get the items she was here for so that they could leave. She moved down the aisle of stalls, counting them, until she reached the one that had been indicated on the map. The table she needed seemed to be surrounded by people so she hovered around behind them, waiting for a spot to clear. Across the aisle was another table surrounded by people. It was only a few moments before a couple drifted away and Airil snuck into their spot. A shop attendant was quick to approach her and she communicated her list. He disappeared just as quickly to gather the items. A voice rose above the din, coming from across the aisle. "Just look at this lovely creature, a prime example of her species! Beautiful but dangerous, she's in the prime of health. A wonderful addition for any collector of the exotic. She will no doubt bring years of enjoyment, and if you're lucky enough to find her a mate, she could easily become a worthwhile investment! Let the bidding begin!" Airil's head jerked around towards the voice, her eyes wide with horror. An auction. It sent chills through her, the sound being all too familiar. The man leading seemed to be holding up a small cage with some exotic animal in it. Airil couldn't help but wonder if it might be Kelvic or not. Whatever it was, the bidding seemed to be going on fiercely. The assistant returned with Airil's items and she paid the requested fee. Matilda had given her more than enough to cover the expense, she'd be returning the change when she delivered the requested items. The assistant seemed to want to haggle but she refused. All she wanted at the moment was to get as far from that stall as quickly as she could. She put an hand on Artos's arm and tried to indicate that she wanted to leave, but the noise of the area drowned out any words she tried to say. The auction seemed to end, and another animal was brought forth with yet more pretty words. The memories that had been forced to her mind were going to make her sick if she didn't get away soon. |
