As she walked down the dimly lit hallway, Eludine couldn't help but feel like this was
some sort of dungeon. In fact it was hard for her to believe these were apartments at all. "This isn't very homey," she whispered to herself, wishing she was back in Mura. The houses back in her hometown were beautiful artworks of architecture, opulent and comfortable. But the housing here was something completely different. Suddenly the Konti felt a bit queasy.

She looked down at the little slip of paper a guard had given her with the number her apartment was written on it. "Well... Here it is," she said as she finally came upon the number, "414." Even with how dark everything was, Eludine still felt a little pang of excitement as she got her key out of her pocket to unlock the door. She turned the key and then removed it. Her hand slid around the knob and slowly turned, and then...

Well, it wasn't the dream cottage Eludine had been imagining, but from being in those halls she wasn't surprised. The room had no windows inside, which meant the only source of light was from the hearth in the corner and the torches. And it was quiet. Very quiet.

Taking a deep breath, the woman walked in closing the door behind her and chucked her backpack onto the table. It had been on her back for what felt like months after the journey to Syliras. Before doing anything else (there was now a lot to get done) Eludine collapsed on her new bed and fell immediately into a deep sleep, her hands clutching the sheets loosely.

The Moving In

Upon awakening, Eludine sat up and moved her legs onto the bed, which had been carelessly dangling through her entire nap. She closed her eyes and yawned, stretching. "I wonder what time it is," she said, half asleep. Just as she finished her sentence she realized the seriousness of her question. There were no windows. How could she tell the time of day?

She sighed. If only she could get a clock in here. Well... She would have to make the most of her stay here in Syliras. Speaking of which, she had to unpack. Forgetting about the time for the time being, Eludine walked over to her backpack and emptied her possessions onto the table. Toiletries, her mizas, a music book, flint and steel, some food, and her flute. Eludine pulled it out and opened its case. She assembled it and placed her fingers on it delicately, softly grinning. This seemed to be the only thing that reminded her of home in a land full of strangeness. She placed her lips on the lip plate and blew gently, practicing a few slurred scales.

Not feeling quite satisfied yet, she pulled out her music book and worked on a song that she had been perfecting for the past couple weeks or so. She must've practiced for a half an hour or forty five minutes before she finally stopped, feeling like that had been enough. She plopped her music book back on the table and disassembled her flute, putting it in its case for later. She stored the case on the table. After that, she put the rest of her belongings in their specified spot.

After finishing, Eludine felt quite hungry. The hearth in the corner of her room was there for her, right? How to light it...

She poked her head outside the hall and saw a torch. "Aha," she said quietly to herself. She went over and took it off the wall, bringing it back inside to light her fire. Once she was finished, she put it back in its place and went inside. She knelt by the fire for a moment, getting warm, then went into her backpack and dug out some of the food she had brought. Some potatoes, butter, cheese, bread. The perfect meal.

So she went to work, putting the potato on a plate over the fire. Baked potatoes were pretty good. The bread went on as well, she could make toast out of it, put some butter on that too. It wasn't quite the well-rounded meal, but it would do. She sat down at the table with her meal and ate the entire thing. She was quite hungry. And this was her dinner, or would it be linner? The whole time thing was proving to be quite a problem.
