AppearanceRace: Kelvic
Animal Form: Harpy Eagle
Gender: Male
Age: 13 years old.
Birthday: Season of Spring, Day 15, 502 AV
Birthplace: Zeltiva
Appearance - Human Form: Aegis is a slim, well-built man around 1.8 metres tall. His body bears normal proportions, save for his slightly longer-than-average fingers.
His face seems sculpted and unnaturally mature, showing no sign of rotundness. His jaw is of normal width and his chin is neither broad nor pointy. Aegis has a smallish nose above which he has mild, but oddly straight and angular brows; imbuing his expression with a certain threatening sternness. A trait further developed by his penetrating hawk's eyes, smeared with a subtle purple hue. The Kelvic's skin is very healthy and youthful, and he has straight, medium-length hair -- white in colour.
Aegis takes great caution to not reveal his body around others, for it is entirely covered in countless scars.
Appearance - Animal Form: This form features Aegis as a rather large eagle; a Harpy Eagle, to be precise. As with other such birds, his plumage features smears of white, black and grey outlining the different segments of his body: upper side covered in slate, black feathers; belly in white with the breasts covered in a gradient black, slowly turning pale grey as it reaches to envelop his head. His tarsi (or 'legs') feature horizontal black stripes against the overall white plumage of his underside. His iris is red and fangs are black, and his toes are a dim yellow. The creature's bill is black and features a crooked end, much like a hook.
The Eagle is one metre long and has a wing span twice that. His fangs are around 5 cm long and the bird's bill is around 10-12. His overall weight is about 5 kilograms.
Character Concept
Personality Overview
Aegis Bright -- a vivid name, is it not? Inlaid with a sense of... purpose. Belonging. Like a cloth asway in the breeze, his name flickers with a gentle decisiveness, as if what lays ahead of him has long been forged. Yet the Brighter the flame, the deeper its shadows; so it is that contrast is born. Within such contrast lies the genesis of a purpose, and its fallacy.
Within every Kelvic there is a purpose. The goal -- a goal -- inscribed upon their soul; bonding. But there is no freedom there. Indeed, every creature is born with a gift and while humans are gifted with freedom, a Kelvic is not. And so, let's dare ask... what if there is one who merely yearns to be liberated?
"Do not scorn your lack of purpose, for within it your truest strength is set."
The Kelvic bears a deep distaste for everyone. He hates the slavers for enslaving and the slaves for being enslaved. Hates the weak for their weakness, as well as the strong for not being weak. Above all, however, he hates himself, what he is. Indeed, amidst a race of the purposeful, he... perhaps alone, only yearns for the meaningless allure of ignorance.
Aegis is hence largely antisocial and fearful of interacting with others. As if in stubborn refutal of his essence, he scorns himself for needing to bond and seeks to escape that necessity. But how can one escape his fate? How can one, in the end, escape himself? He could never find the answer, if there was one. Only one outcome was feasible; Aegis chose to ignore his urges, instead immersing himself in training. He would rather teach himself how to scale the city skyline, perhaps in a vain attempt to outrun his own shadow.
Personality - Surface
Aegis is, externally, an eagle - both literally and otherwise, yet one can also see the flow of water through him. He moves with fluency, yet with the grace of a still pond, almost as if he had never moved at all. As if he merely rearranged his surroundings so as to leave the "pond" undisturbed. Perhaps it is easiest to say that he never moves at all -- only flows, from action to action, thought to speech. His very presence is like a carefully-sewn tapestry, uninterrupted and calm.
But where his body language is like a soothing mist, his attitude manifests in the eye of a thunderstorm. It even projects onto his external image -- there is always a cool, threatening aura around him. He largely avoids contact with people of any kind, but should one occur he is easy to predict. Aegis would never show verbal respect towards anyone, not at this stage. If he speaks, it is with disdain and enmity; dismissing everyone as a mere irritant, yet never insulting them directly.
With Aegis, there is always a sense of distance in his voice, somehow compressed within his attitude towards all. Perhaps his invisible wall to hide behind, it accentuates the physical and emotional distancing he displays.
Personality - Soul
Beneath the abrasive surface, Aegis is a small, fragile thing. His heart thirsts for the warmth of another, for understanding and affection; but his mind denies it all. He hates himself for his failures, for his needs and for his choices. Truly, a dark shadow looms over his mind, never waning. A sense of eternal grief infused with hatred; such is his curse and there is no refuge for one such soul. No purpose in it -- such hypocrisy. But no matter how hard he may try, Aegis' fate is irrefutable: he will not find his peace, and he will never forgive himself. He can never escape his own shadow.
The Kelvic, no matter what he says or how he seems, cares for all life. He is a sworn protector of all and is overcome by internal sorrow even by the smallest of deaths, like that of a mouse or ant. Aegis also sees no meaning of lying and never does lie himself. But certainly, his most powerful trait; his greatest internal motif is his wish to defend. He has no qualms against self-sacrifice if it means he may save a life. The hawk is not afraid of pain, either.
But rooted deep within him, there is another, more sacred motif: he wants to be free. For that reason he hates humans. How can they be born free, yet he cannot? But his hatred is superficial; in truth, he admires their inborn strength. Aegis wishes to be human. Hence, he also has a vivid distaste for his animal form, the hawk.
Despite his disbalanced self however, the Kelvic has a soft spot for beauty in all its forms.
Personality - Interests
Aegis has a vast interest in bladed weapons and martial arts, as well as the art of movement and stealth. He further has an interest in magic and science; specifically the laws of the world and its genesis.
Apart from that, he is an artistic soul and has a hidden dream of learning to play different instruments, and sing. The Kelvic is also rather drawn to the art of creation, despite its semblances...
History of Aegis BrightThere was once a noble family of self-proclaimed knights that lived high above the seabed, on the edge of a cliff. Far from any civilization, their mansion towered solemnly under the sun, tucked away between the folds of the land. It is they, the Brights, who had found Aegis and his twin sister when they were just 2 years old. Not much can be remembered about what came after. Too many details were erased from Aegis' mind, but what remains is simply... agony.
Yes, the pain of being whipped. The sting of a cold edge. The breaking of limbs and the agony of immolation. Those senses are engraved deep in the Kelvic's mind. And isn't it natural? That is what he knew for most of his life, for the nobility of the Brights only lasted so much. Their parental generosity gave way to expectations... and when they were not met, there were punishments. Too severe for many to handle, but the young hawk didn't know any other life. Was it fortunate? He was unaware that what was done to him was too much, so he felt he was meant to accept it. Yet his soul screamed louder with every new wound, and when the wounds stopped healing fully, those screams became tears; like he had run out of blood to bleed.
There was no amount of torture that would let him atone for the disappointment that he had become. For the Brights, it was unacceptable to have a child that was a poor warrior, and so it was hammered into the Kelvic's head that he was worthless. His life was given no value, but countlessly was it accentuated through pain. Perhaps it would have been better if he was killed.
This lasted for 10 years. During them, Aegis was not allowed to see his sister, but there was still some little solace; he had a bondmate. A servant girl, around 8 years of age. For 7 years, she was the only one who had heard Aegis' voice form more than pained grunts. He felt calm around her and it was so that the child was his pillar of support. Yet all comes to an end eventually...
After 10 years of blood, a night of crimson fire came. Madness hung heavy on the moon, and an eerie laughter filled the barren wilderness. The solemn mansion pillared still, but against its dark canvas stood painted a man of silver hair. Redness dripped from the rusted sword he clutched, and in his feet lied the limp body... of a little girl, drenched in knightly blood...
The azure laughter echoed triumphantly in the invading darkness. All until the crimson flames were quenched, and the blood had once more begun to flow...
