A Small Celebration(Turrin)

Postby Drusilla on May 26th, 2015, 6:18 am

Drusilla felt Turrin's arms around her and froze slightly, still unsure of how to react to being touched. Turrin was even more confusing, after spending years distancing herself from him. Now all these rules the Symenestra had set for herself regarding Turrin and others had become void. The world around her thrown topsy turvy at this strangeness. Stopping to listen to Turrin's words,Drusilla smiled and shrugged, "Perhaps they are..."

Drusilla made a noise confirming the Symenos Turrin spoke, "Mhh, yes Mabda." Giving the cherry picking some thought, she shook her head. "No, the picking can wait. I'm curious about what was made for lunch... I told them where we were going and why, but left almost everything else to them." Looking at the cloth wrapped package. "It looks like a lot of food... But why would they make so much..?"

Picking up the package she hauled it onto the blanket and sat down beside it, long fingers untying the top quickly. A surprised smile was her only answer to the contents. "It seems... They sent us a flower watching sampler... Just enough for a few bites with most. My... they sure put a lot of effort into this lunch!"

Removing the first of the contents, she laid out little plates each held 3 round pieces of fresh fish covered sushi. "Hope you're ready to see if Thunder Bay's fish is up to par."

"Oh! Look at this!" Drusilla smiled and pulled out two grilled squids and set them beside the other plates.

The Symenestra pulled a few more samples from the package and laid them around the Endal, "Look at all this! I really must thank the cooks! Ah, but where to start?" Drusilla laughed.

Drusilla seemed to change her mind quickly about the cherry picking because she immediately found a spot on the blanket and started to removed the food from her basket. Still laying on the blanket, Turrin rolled over and propped his head up on one arm as she started to unwrap the food from the cloth covering. When they were unwrapped Turrin was amazed at the amount of time and effort for the cooks to prepare uncooked fish. He knew the cooks tried to make the endal and avora happy, but Drusilla must have bribed them with pinions for them to go through the extra effort of making the food look nice. The uncooked fish smelled slightly pickled as it laid over the ball of sticky rice. Turrin wasn't a fan of uncooked fish since he lived in the jungles of Falyndar. He knew that people in his clan who got deathly sick from uncooked meat; however, the fish meat must have been prepared; otherwise, the cooks wouldn't serve it. Turrin gave the Symenestra a smirk and said as he reached for the uncooked fish on rice, “I not so keen on uncooked fish, but it seem edible to eat at first glance...”

The endal took a small bite at first, and he immediately tasted the slight pickle to the uncooked fish. He let the food sit in his mouth as he judged if he liked it or not. Eventually, he swallowed it, took another bite, and said to Drusilla, “It is actually quite good. I was hesitant at first at raw fish because...”

Turrin stuffed the last third of his fish roll in his mouth, chewed, swallowed, and said with a smile, “...in Falyndar, you have to over cook everything otherwise you will get some sort of bug or stomach parasite. I remember the healers taking out a parasite out of hunter that looked like a wor..”

Turrin wasn't used to eating a nice dinner outside because normally if he was out in the Unforgiving with other endal. They really could careless about manners or dinner etiquette, and nothing was off limit to talk about around the campfire. Last time, he was out with his Flight Leader Naime. She talked out the botched skinning job of a deer while she was gnawing on a bone of a rabbit. Turrin noticed that a person wouldn't make it long as a fledgling endal if they had a soft stomach as a endal. However, Turrin had to realize that he wasn't talking to one of his endal friends now. He was talking to Drusilla, so he figure that he should try not to act like a complete savage in front of her. Realizing that he shouldn't be talking about parasites when he ate his dinner of raw fish. The endal blushed slightly and said with a chuckle, “Yes...the fish rolls are quite tasty, Drusilla.” oocTurrin isn't the smoothest man in Wind Reach. :D

A Small Celebration(Turrin)

Postby Drusilla on May 29th, 2015, 12:39 pm

Drusilla delicately picked up one of the three fish rolls with the tips of her claws. Fish was easy enough for her to eat and it gave her some feeling of normalcy. She took small bites with this food she could eat somewhat well mannered. As Turrin looked over the fish hesitantly Drusilla couldn't help but feel bad. It was her fault with the fish. The food had to be some what edible to her as well. She wondered if Turrin realized this reason for the food. Probably not and that was fine by her. She disliked people knowing just how delicate a creature she was, she'd rather be handed something completely inedible and eat it dealing with the stomach pains later. Pity was something she didn't need.

Drusilla listened to Turrin speak of eating raw meat and the consequences that could follow. Of course she ate raw things but her venom took care of any unsavory things tagging along with her meal. "I highly doubt that the cooks would give us fish laced with worms. Besides most parasites only dwell in tropical climates and Wind Reach is quiet the opposite of wet jungles." She took another bite of the fish finishing off her second roll. She picked up the last of the fish rolls and began to nibble on that.

The Symenestra's eyes looked over the other items made with things easier for her to eat.. Rice was still a bit hard for her but not like bread was. She smiled at the noodles, that were tinted pink to match the falling petals. So were the fish shaped cakes filled with what she assumed was a sweet bean paste. "These little pastries remind me of a sweet given out during the moth festival. Although the ones I grew up with looked like cocoons, not fish." Sweet dumplings and stuffed rice which had been wrapped in leaves and given a pink color... The cooks had truly outdone themselves. Even the tea seemed to be floral in taste...

Drusilla finished the last of her fish and looked over everything else and in a moment of slight gluttony, she picked up a skewer of dumplings taking a large bite out of the first colored sweet then setting it down and digging into the grilled squid. So many tasty treats, hey she could indulge a small bit.

Munching away on squid Drusilla pulled a cloth wrapped item from her bag. She kept it on her lap and said nothing of it, not that she could of spoken with a mouthful of squid.

Turrin reached out and plucked a fish roll with a white fillet on top and took a bite out of it. It was OK, but he wasn't keen on the raw fish, so he stayed away from it and ate the other types of food in the basket. The endal was glad that she wasn't mad at his reaction to the raw fish; however, he did see a slight disappointment in her purple eyes when he stayed away from the fish. Turrin gave her smile and said, “Dru don't feel bad about my reaction to the fish because everything else looks wonderful. Besides, I am just lucky that you put so much effort into my birthday.” The myrian watched Drusilla as she started to pick through the meal herself. He noticed that she skipped the harder foods that would take a long time to eat. The half-breed wasn't sure if she preferred soft foods to harder foods because of he symenestra nature. Turrin decided to ask, “I am not trying to be rude, but why do you avoid the harder foods? If you need me too, I can cut them up for you?”

The most appetizing looking food in the basket was the cook squid and the colored dumplings. Turrin greedily took a skewer for himself and started to pluck one of the colored balls off with his mouth. The dumplings had a sweet and sour taste with mixture of chopped vegetables and meats in the colored balls. The squid was really good because it was mostly meat with a few seasonings on it. Also it had a smoky taste, so the taste of the wood and salt gave the chewy squid a unique flavoring. When Drusilla suggested the trying the purple fish pastry. Turrin plucked one out of the basket and bit into it. Immediately, the half-breed was hit with rich sweet taste. It didn't take long before he devoured the pastry whole. When she mentioned the Moth Festival from her childhood, Turrin looked at her and asked after a swig of water, “Moth Festival this must be a Kalinor festival. Did your father take you to the festival with the rest of your family?”
