It was a hot morning. Vox was sweating when he woke up, and sweating greater still as he performed his daily upkeep exercises. He figured that it was probably just because of the space he was in - cramped, surrounded by walls and other things, no ventilation. What he decided was that he would fix this hazard by his own means. His daily exercises began as normal, starting with sit-ups today. Bending his knees upwards, trying to keep his feet firmly down, and wrapping his arms over his chest, he got into the position that he always did for sit-ups. He fully rose his upper body, flexing his abdomen upwards as his elbows touched his knees. Then, he let himself drop back downwards as he breathed out. The idea he had was that he'd create his own method of self-fanning. After he finished his rep and went downwards, a small cloud of res that he created let out a small wave of peaceful wind that would fall against his body and cool him down.
Primarily, Vox had always focused on his first element when he was learning and perfecting reimancy. He'd never [really] done much with Air past what his original instructor guided him in - which was of course entirely combative lessons, because this was Ravok where they only ever invested money into bloodshed. Today, he strove to work on balance. Just as he had learned to balance the speed and time of his exercise, as well as the breathing that he paced through his movements, he wished to balance his reimancy. Reimancy did have the purpose of combat, but there was much more to it than just that. Fire could light a camp, or a candle, or light the way on a torch. He had done all of these things with it before. Water could steer a ship, nourish the dying, clean the self, and many more things. Earth could build homes, dams, walls to protect people in times of need. Air . . . he wasn't sure what it could do, but he planned to discover it all, whether in a combat setting or otherwise.
Firstly, he'd discovered that it could cool someone. That seemed legitimate, but it was Res for something that wasn't extremely significant. He had to think about ideas in his head - things that a blast of wind could do, or a breeze, at a convenient time. One thing he recognized was that while fire and lightning melted and burned, air damaged via force. Force had a different function than fire. If someone were to attack him, he could use air reimancy to create a shield of wind - enough force to protect himself from an incoming blow. What sort of blows could he stop? Depending on the strength and concentration, he could probably stop anything.
An arrow coming at the shield would be halted by the strong force, potentially break against the surface and fall flat. A sword would lunge only to be unable to penetrate the layer of air that weaved itself for protection. Still, Vox wondered just exactly how air planned on being a competitive element when most of what it could do, could be done by earth. Earth had even more reliable force and more consistent defense. It was better for offense and defense. Earth could be re-used, flung again, used as a shield again, whereas air seemed to have a one-time usage. To be honest, Vox had only ever learned air to gain access to lightning, and now that he had learned lightning he never found much of a reason to go back. Sure, just recently he used the element to push an enemy down to the ground so he could kill them, but couldn't flinging a giant boulder at them do the same if not more?
There were a lot of questions to be had about air. And, uniquely enough, he planned to discover them all under the duress of exercise. This was why Vox had always felt like he wasn't good for Sahova - he didn't learn by studying or examining, but always, by acting and moving. Working on real things and real people, and bleeding real blood of his own.
