It's so small

She saw it a few days ago, and at that time she had simply passed it by. It was small, almost insignificantly so. It's eyes were fully open now and the fur on it's body had started to poof and fluff. Felicity had seen some of the children in the area tending to it, taking it food from time to time and trying their best to play with it, but the kitten never seemed interested. Perhaps it was scared.

Felicity crouched down in front of its little nest made out of a crate and some scraps of paper. The little thing was curled up there, tail short a stubby and little paws barely the size of her thumb. It was black with a few streaks of grey on it's head and chest, but it's paws were pure white like it had just walked through a patch of snow. The thing never blinked as it stared back at Felicity, the same kind of curious intensity reflected in those orbs.

Tilting her head Felicity scratched her cheek, chewing on her lip as she did. She had never owned a cat. Mother never let her, but she didn't know why. They always seemed to be thinking about something, and how they carried themselves always made Felicity wonder if, perhaps, they were like her.

With the hand she scratched with Felicity reached forward, extending one finger toward the kitten. It's little nose twitched as it sniffed, but just before she could touch it the thing recoiled. Letting her hand drop Felicity stood and sighed. Without even a second glance she simply turned and walked away.

It's so small

32nd of Fall, 515 AV

It was still there. Even from the opening to the little alleyway Felicity could see it's little butt wiggling in excitement, the tip of its tail twitching as it eyed what looked like an old and dirty piece of cloth. Someone must have left it there only recently because of the kitten's avid interest in the object. A splintered piece of its crate had impaled the cloth, so when it was pulled by the tiny paws it would wiggle and jump back into place, adding further excited fuel to the fire of the things play time.

Still watching as the kitten readied itself to pounce, Felicity took a bite out of the small and very stale piece of old bread, chewing it thoughtfully as she watched. What did kittens imagine when they played their pretend games? Was it stalking some wild beast in the woods? Or was it imagining all of its brother's and sisters around it, jumping and frolicking and enticing this one to come and play as well? Whatever it was it certainly seemed exciting. So, being careful to make as little noise as possible, Felicity slipped down the narrow passage, turned slightly sideways and lifting her feet a bit higher than necessary so that they did not scuff the ground. Try as she might, however, Felicity was not a master of stealth. The things ears twitched and it stopped its playing and looked up, big eyes growing wider as it stared. Felicity paused and stared too, the bread half raised to her mouth and her foot hovering in the air where she was just about to take another silent step.

They stayed like this for a few ticks, Felicity not sure what else to do. Then suddenly the kittened simply lost interest and went back to its little game, butt wiggle and all. Blinking Felicity slowly lowered her foot, coming closer though this time not bothering to be silent. The kitten looked up at her from time to time but its focus was mainly on its prey, which fought a futile battle as it became entangled in the things claws and teeth. Crouching next to the grate and leaning her elbows there on, Felicity tore off another small chunk of bed, tilting her head as she watched the kitten roll and twist in what could not possibly be a really effective hunting technique. It seemed to be having fun though and it continued on like this for several chimes. For such a small body it sure had plenty of energy.

Reaching forward Felicity extended one finger, aiming to touch the soft fur of its back while it was distracted but she must have made some sort of sound because it suddenly stopped playing and looked up. Nose twitching the kitten sniffed the very end of the finger, but as Felicity tried to actually pet the creature it backed away.

"You still wont let me touch you...? She whispered, and then shrugged. Tearing off a few smaller pieces of the bread and dropping them into the crate Felicity stood and looked down at the thing with a neutral expression. A small wave, and then that was it. Felicity turned and continued on with her day.
