Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Loads of Leather

Vypec had been waiting eagerly, ever since he got it into his head that he was going to order them. Vypec had put in for the armor at Loads of Leathers days earlier. There were a few men at the Lodge admiring another's leather armor. The stuff was fitted well and favored a mobile style. Vypec had been one of the more avid admirers. The warrior to whom the stuff belonged was a well established Kavran with years of experience in the Kuvay'Nas. He had said to Vypec "You need armor, lad. There's not an Akalak alive who is perfect, and when the Zith rain from the sky you want something protecting where you aren't looking."

The advice was sound. Most of the Kuvay'Nas wore some sort of armor. Vypec had not thought about it much in the past. All he had been doing was training in the Sasarans or with his family. The need for protection was arbitrary, but now it was real. The Zith were as much a threat to him as anything else could be. Vypec was far from perfect, he knew that. So that day, after his shift, Vypec had walked over to Loads of Leathers and asked what protection they could offer that allowed for stealth. The proprietor had grinned and rubbed his hands clean on a towel. "Night Leathers aught to do it for ya, sir." He had said in a thick accent. Vypec had asked what in the hell was Night Leather was.

It turned out Night Leather was a wonderfully useful armor, made to blend with shadow and allow for stealth. The proprietor had some scraps laying around and he demonstrated the effect within the shaded confines of his shop. Vypec had paid the sixty gold Mizas for the full set of armor after that, eager to receive his own set of armor. A warrior was made better by quality tools. This would allow for protection and stealth in the dead of night.

As Vypec pushed open the door to the shop he was excited to try on the new garb. He had heard great things about threw craftsmanship of the leather workers of Loads. They were, after all, a wildly successful shop in a city where leather was like a second skin to most. The shop was well kept, neat piles of leathers were stacked around and bins with various goods were on display. As Vypec stepped through the doorway and a small bell chimed his appearance, a clerk stepped out from behind a drying rack and raised his eyebrows at Vypec askance. "What can I help you with sir?" He inquired professionally.

Vypec mentioned his order and the clerk disappeared in the back of the shop. Vypec waited a few minutes, taking in the rustic smell of the leather shop and inspecting a few choice pieces he had missed a few days ago when he placed his order. The clerk now had a bundle of darkness in his hands. When he set the pieces out on the countertop Vypec reached a hand out. He ran his fingers over the hardened surfaces of the dark leather. The dark leather was curved in bands and strapped together with fine studs to make the cuirass. The bands were both ornate and simple, utilitarian and beautiful. Similarly, leather spaulders splayed down into tips above a single mass of rerebrace below. Vambraces coupled with half-hand armor ideal for sword work.

Vypec was eager to try it on. He let the cloak fall from his shoulders and unbuckled his belt. The clerk assisted Vypec into the armor. It fit like a glove, a true testament to the craftsmanship of the shop proprietor and his apprentices. Vypec moved around in it. He unsheathed his Lakan and waved it back and forth, imagining the deaths of countless Zith. The clerk eyed him in shock.

"Oh, apologies." Vypec grinned ruefully and tucked his weapon away again. He picked the cloak off the ground and tied it on over the armor. No point in taking the leathers off and carrying them when they could just as easily be worn. Vypec thanked the clerk for his help and made sure he remembered taking the payment for the commission before leaving the shop. Vypec was sure to recommend the place to anyone he met.
