Thalassa

Postby Thalassa on May 10th, 2016, 4:49 pm

Race: Human, Vantha
Gender: Female
Birthplace: Cool Water hold

Appearance:
Slightly shorter than the average human woman and with an olive complexion, Thalassa doesn't have much about her that would cause her to stand out in a crowd. Her hair is a dark brown rather than the true black that is common among the vantha. It is thick and straight and reaches to just below her waist, though she normally keeps it back in a braid. Her eyes are almond with a slight slant towards the edges, while the color is changeable they tend towards darker shades. Her features might be called pleasant and well balanced rather than attractive with an aquiline nose, high cheek bones, full lips and a slightly pointed chin.

She prefers functional clothing to things which are of a delicate cut or cloth, normally in colors or green, blue, or grey. Out of habit she tends to layer clothing, unless the weather or occasion dictates otherwise. She also has a hold based tattoo done in black starting beneath her lower lip and reaching to her chin.

She tends to have a manner that makes her appear smaller than she is, as she tries not to draw attention to herself, she tends to walk with her shoulders drawn in and her head down, as well she walks with a slight limp on her right leg, her ankle appearing to not quiet roll right.

Background:
Thalassa had a normal enough childhood for a vantha of the Cool Water hold. For the most part her father was a fishermen and her mother gathered shellfish along the shores and wove baskets out of sea grass hardy enough to survive the cold. However, due to her fathers boats the lived outside of the hold proper, closer to the shore than most. It seemed like an adventure to Thalassaa when she was a small child to have to journey so far to reach the hold.

In the warm seasons, she would often wonder to collect what plants would grow in the frozen climate for even there, there was a hardy species or two that would manage to grow. One such year it was unusually warm, and Thalassa feeling free wondered down the shore line further than she tended to go and certainly further than she had ever gone alone, however with her families isolation it had never occurred to her that she might run into problems.

In this case the problem came in the form of other people. As luck would have it, there was a caravan of ships designed to trade up and down the coast, given the isolation this group was not above trading in things that might be frown upon in the southern cities, people being one of them. Thalassa was not a fool and tried to move back into the forest as the ships landed, she was not however faster than a fully grown man. Nor was she able to over power one. She was dragged back to their camp sight to tend to their needs before they left, well aware that her looked unusual enough to be sold as an exotic to some rich family with more money than morals.

Thalassa was not aware of her fate, but she knew they did not have her best interest in mind. She tried to slip away in the middle of the night. Her plan went awry when her foot snapped a twig loud enough to wake up one of the men dozing near the fire. She was brought down when a shalalie connected with her right ankle hard enough to snap the bone. Figuring she wasn't going to try another escape with a broken ankle they never set the bones. It would eventually heal but not with the range it once had.

During the trip she learned to keep her head down and not attract attention, though she still clings to the hope of being able to return to her home one day. She is equally aware of how difficult that might be, however she intends to try.

Hey there! Welcome to Miz, Thalassa. I was reading over your CS and wanted to address some issues that I came across. You said your family lived away from the Hold. This is not how Avanthal works, unfortunately.

Coolwater Hold wrote: When Coolwater was founded the members wanted to live where the water flowed cool enough for the Talderan sea animals that they wanted to hunt and fish for. Due to this fact Coolwater Hold is right off the water. They have one of the smaller Holds but what it lacks in size it makes up in it's large docks. The Coolwater docks are right off the back of the hold.

Vantha do venture outside of the city from time to time for hunting or fishing expeditions but they always com back. Everyone lives in Avanthal. The conditions are too severe for it to be any other way.

You may want to do some research on broken bones and improper settings.

I would also recommend looking into Lhavit's position on slavery since it seems like that is what your history is indicating.

I think some time invested in reading various lores pertaining to your character's concept and history. Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.
