Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Theo let out a laugh as she fell to the ground. He was just having fun now. Mockery was never his goal, but the kelvic had made everything so serious that it was hard not to laugh at her now. But in her dive she tucked herself in and rolled forward, surprisingly emerging on her toes in a feat of acrobatics.

”Impressive.” Theo said, applauding and nodding in approval.

The Kelvic began her counterattack by generating a ball of a thick gaseous res in her hands. I’ve seen this one before, he thought. Theo reacted by immediately drawing his longsword from the scabbard. He adjusted his grip so the wider part of the diamond shaped blade was ready to be swung. When she ignited the res Theo readied himself to strike it. When the ball of fire came close Theo took a hard swing. The goop of the res was knocked clean out of the fire, and without it the flame quickly dissipated and scattered in the air as smoke

What Theo did not see, or perhaps saw too late, was the tiger heading straight for him. His swing was still in motion by the time he was pounced on, and Theo still had not the recourse to kill Yohana as much as she was getting on his nerves.

The dirt was more kind than her, and Theo managed to save his head before hitting the ground. His sword flew from his hands and went sliding across the flat road. Her teeth immediately sank into Theo’s shoulder, but they only slightly punctured his skin. She doesn’t want to kill me, for now at least. Maybe she is a lady after all. Theo thought as she reared her head back.

Theo had not the training or the life experience to properly read the emotions of tigers, but he could only assume that she was mad. Her orange fur seemed to glow against the black and white with a certain fierceness. The pupils of her eyes looked like dots with intention. Her jaw hung open as she stared at Theo, daring him to make the wrong move. Doesn’t she know me well enough now? This is the perfect opportunity for me to do something stupid.

Her open mouth was ready to seize his throat, however, and it seemed like the games were coming to an end. This was now a matter of life and death, whether he liked it or not.

Well this escalated quickly. A soft snicker rolled off Theo’s tongue as he looked deep into Yohana’s eyes. He raised his hand and put it on the side of her big tiger head. A smile broke out on his face as he began rubbing her face.

”Well, aren’t you a good girl?”

Her body hoovered over his, this fight was over. At least for her it was. While her teeth still flashed with anger, that would soon cease. Her paws held down his shoulders but he brought his hand up to her large head. It confused her on so many levels as to why he thought the best idea was to stroke a predator as herself. Yohana had given up.

Hesitantly she shifted back into her human form, assuming that he was done fighting as well. She kept her hands on his shoulders but she used her hand to swat away his from the feel of her soft face. The large back paws that were once standing atop of him were moved to side, it was more comfortable for her and gave stability.

The thick dark hairs above her eyes creased and moved towards the center as she looked over his face, the two were quite close and for a woman who has never herself been with a man she thought nothing of it. It was natural for her to be so close to someone and not think of the boundaries. Her hazel eyes squinted, she was so baffled within her thoughts.
"Where is his chivalry? Where has his respect gone? Everything is a joke to this human. I just do not understand."

A faint copper taste coated the tips of her teeth as she ran her tongue over them. It was undoubtedly blood she had drawn herself. Yet she felt no remorse for wounding the man even if the cuts were minor. Returning them to their pearly white state before she spoke.

This would be the first time in a very, very long time since she had ever thought a human was worth her questioning. "Where is your integrity? Why is everything a joke to you? Do you know no bounds?" Yohana shook her head as she searched his face once more for a glimmer of something more than the man he portrayed today.

She feared that the man he showed today was the man he would be forever. It would be proving a few of her theories against the race to hole truth. Yohana would only require a few qualities in a man or woman. Honor was one of them and she could not find an inch of it in him. Unless you count him not slicing her belly open with the sword he swung.

"Have you no honor?" Out of habit her nostrils gave a tiny flare when she spoke on matters that upset her. She could feel his hot breath on her face, it reeked of alcohol and whatever he consumed last. It seemed to her that there was nothing of worth in this man.

Her voice was rather soft and filled with confusion as she spoke. The form she shared her life with held many noises, none of which could be compared to her voice. Perhaps you could consider it a light pur at times but not now.

In an instant the tiger was wrapped in light streams, it was swirling all around her, but before Theo could blink she was human again. It was the first time he thought he’d seen a kelvic transform. The act was sublime. It happened in an instant, with too much going on to tell what happened. To see it first hand was amazing, Theo was wholly intrigued.

Her thick fur had become smooth human skin under his hand. His arm had hung in awe, but she swatted it away once she changed. She placed her hands on the ground next to Theo, but choose to sit on top of him all the same. Her eyes seemed to drift all over Theo’s face, she looked confused, and they couldn't look at anything else with such little space between them. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a more confusing situation in my life.

Under her dark, full lips she licked her teeth clean of the blood she had drawn. In the heat of their quarrel, Theo hadn’t had the proper demeanor to take her in. She had piercing hazel eyes and a smooth face that was easy to look at, with her ferocity only adding to her allure. Theo had never wanted to hid his soft spot for hard women.

"Where is your integrity? Why is everything a joke to you? Do you know no bounds?" She shook her head as she looked down on him. "Have you no honor?"

”Honor? Honor is just a word thrown around by immoral men who lack direction. They bound the action to the word and use it as justification, but they hardly understand a bit of what they do because they haven't the mind for it. Me? I don’t let some loose code make judgments for me. I see right, I see wrong, I act, it is that simple.

"Who are you to judge me?" The words seemed to just spill out. Living in Syliras and Riverfall long enough, plenty of times had he seen "honor" lead to cruelty. The Sylirans worked their people like machines and the Riverians had established a racial hierarchy, and both seemed to have an inherent lack of charitability. We fight the savages, you work or we’ll leave you to them. ‘Talk about incentive.

In those seconds Theo had drifted away. He was brought back to the now by the feel of the kelvic's gaze beating down on top of him. As he looked anew her eyes were all he saw, all he wanted to see. In them he saw no terrible fury, but sweet curiosity. Their petty fight had dissolved into memory, and the moment was born again with new context: He had let her into his thoughts. Humor and cackling was his mask, and he wore it well, but for a moment Theo had let her in. This was a rare feeling and from there he knew there was something more to her. He wanted to know what that was.

”Whoo, I got a little intense there. I'm sorry. I guess the dog came out and I went barking at a cat.” He let out a soft laugh smiled modestly. ”But I shouldn't have. Especially whens the cat’s as beautiful as you.” His hand reached up again to touch her face.

After awhile her legs ached from holding her body above his. In order to get comfortable so took it upon herself to sit on his torso. After all, she did appreciate a short break from their fiasco. She couldn't help but to feel a tab bit weakened.

She lifted the left brow's tail as he went on to give a short speech about honor. When he questioned who she was to hand out judgement she naturally grew defensive. "How can you say what you does is right? Weren't you the man that claimed he wanted to slit a boy's throat for being wrong? What would even justify that?" There was a twang of disappointment as she recalled his words.

It was much easier for her to combat his questions with several of her own. Of course she could answer the questions but it would take much thought. At the moment it felt like she did not possess the time to answer them. She could tell that he was not totally immersed in the conversation for a tick.

"What in Mizahar is this man looking at? I wish I could just get into his head for a tick." She herself was taken away from the chatter between them and indulged in thought as he did. He referred to himself as a dog which brought a light laugh but she concealed it within her mind.

The man went on to compliment her after they had quite the scuttle. She wasn't completely sure of his intentions any longer. He brought his hand up to touch her face once more as he did previously. Instinctively her nose scrunched up and she gave a side was glance at his hand and then back at his eyes. If there was one thing they shared would be eye color. His transitioned from brown to green.

"What are you doing?" She said with bluntness in her voice. Yohana was referring to his hand, it made her tense once more, her muscles lightly straining as she was ready to attack on any give notion that he wished to lay harm to her. "Does he want to hit me again is that it?"

Quickly and before he could answer her last question she came back and said, "Don't try and hide the fact that you could've killed me with flattery." While she did appreciate someone who gave her sweet words, now was not the time. Let alone to hear those words from a human.

The air slipped out of Theo as she took her new seat, but he hadn’t the energy to question anything about the moment any more. Theo didn't know what to think between their confrontation, the fight, and whatever this was, it was so much, even for Theo.

Are all kelvics this way? This is so strange, but I think I like it. Who am I tying to kid? Obviously I'd like it. She hadn't seemed to have noticed that her clothes were all torn up, normally he wasn't so shy but this girl demanded his respect, yet even then his eyes betrayed him. He didn't see what he would have wanted, but that had little effect on his drifting eyes. If she were anyone else Theo would know the next step, but this girl was a case of her own.

Despite the differing circumstance, she still had her mind on the politics of their interaction. "How can you say what you do is right? Weren't you the man that claimed he wanted to slit a boy's throat for being wrong? What would even justify that?" Her words were harsh, but Theo knew he had backed her into a corner. Theo's particular brand of comedy took some warming up to.

”Haven’t you figured out by now that I like to joke? The kid did something really stupid, but I wasn’t gonna’ kill him. I’m my own comic relief, not everyone bites at my humor though.” He snickered, but cut it off. This girl's all business.

When his hand reached up at her face she initially discomforted, but she didn’t push it away so quickly this time. Instead she let it hang there, she looked like she didn't know what to feel. But their eyes locked again and Theo was once again enamored by her gaze. She was growing more fair by the moment.

”What are you doing?” She asked. Her legs tightened around his chest, but it was impossible to tell whether she was pleased or frustrated just by that, his logic dictated it was the ladder, but he wanted it to be the former. ”Don't try and hide the fact that you could've killed me with flattery.” She added.

He couldn’t help but laugh. She’s so full of passion. ”That was before I saw you like this. I couldn't see straight in our little quarrel. We were exchanging quips and I got wrapped up in the moment. But I think the only way I’ll kill you now would be with flattery.” He laughed. ”Things happened, but it was a bit of fun, don’t you agree?” He asked, assuming she would agree.

”And you're so feisty too, I love that.” And from there he hoped passion would take hold of her. He wanted her. His left hand had already found its way to her hip, and he gripped her soft and firm at the same time; his other hand slid down the side of her cheek to the soft spot of her neck. Closing his eyes, Theo lifted his head to kiss her.

First Impressions (Yohana)

Yohana always enjoyed a good joke. The "jokes" he told were not funny to her hears. "I thought jokes were supposed to be laughed at. You aren't a good jokester." After she said this, the right of her lips tugged into a smirk. If he wasn't a human then maybe she would've found his jokes worthy of laughter. Unfortunately, he was human.

It was an amazing feat for her to be so close to a race that she despised wholeheartedly and not to be in heated combat. She looked up from his eyes for a tick at her surroundings. Her eyes were constantly wide, open to the world around her. He spoke and she listened but her gaze was drifting else where. submerged in thought.

"What would someone think if they saw two people like this?" He went on to dish out more compliments but they all went in one ear and out the other. She was so familiar to the catcalling in Sunberth that she thought nothing much of his flattery. The girl had heard it all, or at least she thought. Yohana took in a short breath, almost a gasp, when he grabbed her hip.

Immediately he had her undivided attention once more. His other hand found her face once more but this time he moved it lower. Gently he placed thumb on the nape of her neck. He had already closed his eyes before she could do the same. It took her a tick to figure out what his intentions were.

"First he tries to light me on fire and then tries kiss me?" The face she was making wouldn't have anyone second guessing that she did not share the same feelings. Her nose was scrunched and eyes widened with surprise. Yohana didn't even know his first name yet found herself in this situation.

It was certainly a first for her. She couldn't help it, there was a lust in her stomach that told her reach forward as he did. Yohana's lips were practically inches away, one would swear they even touched. Though she could not forget the actions that happened earlier and what happened to her mother.

Something screamed in the back of her mind to get him whilst vulnerable. She allowed that sense to overcome her lustful instincts. Quickly and with hesitation this time, she reached for his throat. Her lips now far away from his. It was as though she was having a flashback. All she could see was the human face of her mother's murderer. Not the man that choose not to kill her.

Her hands wrapped around his throat, squeezing it, her fingers getting close and closer to each other with every tick.

First Impressions (Yohana)

Theo could taste her breath, smell her essence. It was a bold gesture, but it wasn’t anything unlike the former squire. What was more intimate than a fight? What better way to test someone’s worth than with fire and iron? What better place to find the quality of someone’s character than in the field? His jaw was still a little crooked from when his lost Rielly had smacked him with her bow, but Theo had learned to love that ache.

But then her breath stopped and he could feel her moving away. Before Theo could open his eyes she already had her hands gripped wholly around his neck. Her eyes were like pins. Theo knew that red stare only because he had worn it himself. She was drunk with rage, craving blood, and if he didn't act she would kill him

His hand was still gripped to her neck, and he sunk his fingers in for a very different style of grip. As her hands tightened so did his, but he realized a choking match, while towing the line of the eroticism that he so craved, was not going to end well for either of them. He yanked her neck to the side and whipped her towards the dirt. His right leg lifted up and kicked her square in the knee, hopefully immobilizing her for a moment.

Theo’s legs sprang up from underneath himself. ”What in the world was that about?” He said gasping. ”Did you really just try to kill me? And you’re trying to teach me about right and wrong… Some joke.” He felt anger within his heart inside him and he was afraid of what he might do if he looked at her, but one of his eyes stayed trained on her and his right hand rested on his dagger.

He let the calm cover the air as he caught his breath. ”You should go see a head doctor, or something. Don’t get me wrong, I like crazy, but next time you choke me without my say so I’ll slit your throat. I don’t care who you are, how nice you are besides that, I'll kill you for something like that.”

Theo wiped himself clean of the dirt on his backside. He was getting the hell away from her. But still, he was having fun until she snatched at his neck. He had that soft spot for hard women, and Theo’d be lying if a lack of stability didn't get a rouse out of him. This was just a little too much.

”I’m going to go get a drink after that, you’ll keep away if you know what’s good for you. But after you find something to take your edge off look me up. My name’s Theo, I work for the Antiquities Society. Maybe you can buy me a drink and make this whatever this was up to me some day.” He turned and started walking his down the dirt trail to Riverfall. ”Just leave your baggage at the door, okay?” He said as he flicked his hand waving, his back already to the girl.
