Duenna

Appearance

Race: Kelvic (Melanistic Fallow Deer)
Gender: Female
Age: Three years old.
Birthplace: Endrykas
Birthday: Summer 1, 513

Appearance: A discerning eye may experience little difficulty seeing the doe in the dame, for Duenna espouses many of the qualities profound in her animal form. Her limbs are long and thin, their hue faintly tan even in the midst of winter. Her eyes are set just a hair apart wider than the norm, overshadowed by the gratuitous length of her eyelashes. Their abnormally large size contributes again to that doe-like, innocent quality. Though her nose is broad, it is not unbecomingly so, but her mother had often fretted over her thin lips. They stretch easily into an anxious smile, and are frequently noted mindlessly chewing, whether it be her meal or a strip of bark pulled idly from a tree.

Her hair is straight as a pin, an ashy mix of deep gray and brown. There is little styling applied, and it is often merely slashed with a blade when it grows so long as to be cumbersome. Her coltish figure leaves much to be desired, for her thin figure lacks the curves so often desired in a woman, and her face and coloring are rather drab. The only attention Duenna has garnered in relation to her countenance has been from those beguiled by innocence and naiveté.

In her other life, Duenna is a fallow deer. She is middling of size, rather unremarkable both in stature and weight, save for a twist of coloring. Rather than the normal honey-coated deer, she has a Melanistic trait, which causes her hue to remain static year round and erases the common spots of her species.

Character Concept

A deer without a herd, it is with great trepidation that Duenna exists in the world. Her eyes are already large, but they appear even more winsome held open in fear. She moves with a skittish grace, always positioned towards the exit, flinching when approached. She is quick to flee, and moves more quickly than a normal human.

Nevertheless, her neurotic fears are a cover for her true desires. She exists on the periphery of society, longing more than anything to join in, to dance and sing and merely chatter with the others. However, she has never properly bonded, and even the most normal of formative relationships was denied of her.

Aside from her persistent desires to develop intimacies, Duenna has an affinity for animals. Like many Kelvics, she is not the most intellectual of creatures—she prefers what she knows: the behavior of animals, the plants of the forest. She exists emotionally, and is often able to perceive how others are feeling due to the subtleties of their body language; on the other hand, even the most obvious of jokes elicits a dumb stare. She is eager to please and works most diligently when set to a task, though complicated manners often require frequent checking and thorough explanations.

Character History

Mayrain had never been able to ascertain whether it was her own blood that had marked her daughter a deviant, or the seed of the traveling merchant she had lain with on a particularly brisk autumn night. Had he been Kelvic himself? She had known only his charismatic voice and handsome face, and did not trifle herself with any further information. Even the name he had whispered to her had been unnecessary, “Duengo,” had it been? A self-centered woman who frequently gave in to her own whims, she was no stranger to extramarital affairs. She had taken the herbs to prevent pregnancy just as instructed, only to find her belly swollen and the father unaware and long off some weeks later. Like all the Drykas, she was no stranger to hardship. Regardless of how unwelcome the pregnancy had been, Mayrain had stoically accepted her role as mother, and soon her daughter was born. Perhaps in an odd moment of sentimentality, she named her Duenna.

Where Mayrain had been a beauty, brash and vivacious, her infant was a cowed little thing. Dusky and thin, she assumed it sickly; perhaps the herbs she had taken to miscarry had caused instead some half-life. However, the child persevered. Perhaps even stranger, it flowered: growing into its own far faster than any Drykas had a right to, within months stretching its gangly legs among the horses. Despite all of her flaws, Mayrain was no idiot, and the influx of foreigners meant the trade of information within their home. Duenna’s affliction was suspected from her rapid growth, and diagnosed officially when she first experienced a shifting.

Had Duenna been more similar to her mother, this might have been fine. Mayrain had always admired traits similar to her own, but her child was a creature all her own. Where Mayrain spoke confidently, Duenna demurred. While her mother could charm with her appearance, her daughter was a monochromatic wisp, often forgotten altogether. Worse yet, the child was a deer: a bastardization of a horse, only worthy as meat to her mother.

She felt understood only among the horses. A social creature, cut off from her other half, Duenna mustered the entirety of her bravery and stole away with a group of merchants headed to Syliras. At her core, the motivation speaks plainly to all the Kelvics: she desires a friend, a family, a bond.

Duenna

Hello there, Welcome to Mizahar a few problems with your character sheet:

  • It is required to list what your skill points are coming from: Starting (SP), Racial (RB), earned (XP). Please do so.
  • As a Kelvic you cannot bond with a strider, therefore you cannot learn Pavi as that is a Drykas only language.
  • Lore of Horse Behavior: WHAT specific part?
  • Coat or Cloak not both
  • Can you list what is in the apartment in the Citadel? It can be found in the Starting Package under Housing as the Cottage package.

Once you have completed the list above please private message me.

Thanks,
Astator
Which way do you want to go? Up or Down?

Attention Players, Graders, and Storytellers:

A character sheet does not require the green checkmark for the player to roleplay. This is just a notification to all that the character sheet has passed through the Liaisons thorough checklist and meets Mizahar standards.

All sheets with a large red X or a speech bubble beside their thread title do not recieve grades and cannot continue threads they are currently involved in until all issues have been fixed and verified.
