Relocation Wasn't My First Choice (Skyard Please)

The argument took place in the quiet of the night in the streets of Riverfall long past the time the Kuvay'Nas had last patrolled that particular street. It wasn't a verbal one, but rather one of magic and intent. The Blue Bull had expelled its bloated patrons to go staggering home long after the last bard had raised his voice in song. The last game of suvka had been played and tips had been collected by tired waitresses who also cleaned up as they went hoping for an early night. It was never early though, not where the Blue Bull was concerned and not when it involved trying to get the whole thing closed on time. The managed, of course, but just barely. A final patron had spilled out onto the street, a passed out drunk in tow. The kelvic lion was doing the barmaids a favor by hauling a drunken human out onto the porch to sleep away the rest of the night before he could be sick. The girls hadn't wanted vomit on the newly cleaned floor anyhow.

Skyard had had his liquor. He’d even taken measures to drown out one particularly obnoxious bard by stuffing a bit of cotton into his ears to drown out the man’s bellowing. Perhaps because of the drink or perhaps because he liked the quiet more than he liked the crowd, he forgot about the cotton.

And the Gods knew the Kelvic Lion would do whatever he could to please the women. One might offer him a warm bed for the night. That hadn’t happened though. And so he’d quietly set off to find other amusement.

And when that deed was done and the passed out patron was sleeping on the porch bench of shame, Skyard was on his own in the street where just a turn or two would find him alone. Wandering - he often wandered - restless and half nocturnal as his Kelvic form tended to make him. Lions in the wild were equally at home day or night being awake. And around Riverfall, the Night Lions had made the conversion to nocturnal without a blink. So if Skyard wanted to run with his own kind at times, he had to seek them out in the black of night as well. There would be no runs this evening though. There would be no blessed furred body to cover if he managed to find a wild lioness close to her cycle and willing. There weren’t even any wandering prostitutes. All Riverfall’s body trade took place behind closed doors in posh surroundings. The Akalak were decadent in their pursuit of lust. And usually at this time of night there were a few around.

Not tonight though. The streets were strangely deserted and eerily so. Something seemed not quite right and Skyard couldn’t put his finger on it. The scents in the city were strange. Akalak mingled with fresher human odor, though nothing offensive. And then he saw something strange.

Standing alongside the street was a strolling couple, arm in arm, completely frozen in place. They were breathing, each having a leg partially extended as if to take a step, but they weren’t moving. They stared straight ahead with a dull glaze in their eyes, and did nothing else. A little further away was another person, a courier, frozen as well. He was breathing, but also drooling, with the same vacant stare. He had a package tucked under his arm.

A bend in the street passed the three frozen figures cast a streetlight from the turn. In it he could see two shapes moving and two shapes frozen. Skyard felt a pull, a strong pull, in the form of an urge to move closer, to hear what they were saying… and he did so, moving past the frozen people and crouching by the corner to peer around it. The human scent was strong here, but so too was Akalak. From the dim light on his street, illuminated under the bright light on theirs, he could see two humans and two Akalak. The Akalak were frozen, a pair of big bruiser types, wearing the tabard of the Kuvay’Nas. It was a night patrol, the one in fact that was overdue to pass by The Blue Bull. The humans were moving though, unaffected by whatever it was that was holding the other people frozen.

One was a beautiful woman, older, and one was a man, younger. They both together held a large frame drum about thirty inches in diameter that seemed to have a glowing metal frame and a strange translucent cover where most had hide. The cover glowed with odd symbols that seemed to scramble across its surface as the couple each struck it with leather and fur covered beaters. Sky still had the cotton in his ears so he could not hear the tones, but he could feel the vibrations. Their drumming in the middle of Riverfall in the heart of the night was about as out of place as a monkey in the desert or a whale beached in the center of the Sea of Grass. The woman struck it with a glowing rod that had a beater topped with leather. The man struck it with a similar glowing rod but his beater was topped with a shimmering fur.

The Drum radiated power. But the power washed over Skyard hitting him not with true sound he could hear but with radiant waves. The waves grew more and more powerful as the couple increased their drumming, carrying it to a crescendo.

The drum flared with light and engluphed the two frozen guards, the drummers, and even Sky himself with a flare of light. Sky felt himself pulled, twisted, and violently tossed around, tumbling, twisting, like he was suddenly dough and a pretzel maker was tossing him into the air and twisting him about ready to shelve him and throw him in a hot oven.

He landed hard, sprawling on a combination of stone and sand near the crash of waves. The others were there too… a bit further away. The two Kuvay’Nas were down, collapsed and panting. Their strange staring gaze still in effect.

The couple stood on their feet and smiled. “Two more… “ The young man said. The woman glanced over towards Sky then, as if spotting him, and shook her head. “Not two. Three. Look…” She said gesturing to the Kelvic. She lifted the drum and struck it again with her beater. The music hit Sky full force as the man joined in. He’d lost the cotton in his ears somehow when they’d tumbled. And he felt his limbs freeze as the music washed over him. “He’s a strong one too.” She smiled, and walked over, her companion soon joining her. The woman’s cold eyes scanned him like a potential buyer would scan a horse.

Skyard still couldn’t move.

“Bonus… I like bonus. He’ll do nicely along with the other two.” She said softly, turned to grin at her companion, and then helped him. Together they reached out and grabbed Sky by the clothes he wore and began dragging him. It was only then that he could look around. The sky was utterly stunning, filled with stars on the clearest night he’d ever seen. Palm trees wafted in the heavens, Sky’s head angled so he could only see up. He could hear the waves crashing and smell the salt of the ocean. But the world had a different quality to it. It was hot, still, even with the sun down, and the humidity was high. The place smelled different than Riverfall’s cool stone and temperate climate. This place smelled tropical. Something bright fluttered overhead – a colorful bird the size of a hawk – whereas in the distance there was a chorus of insects as if a forest lay in that direction.

They didn’t drag him far.

It seemed they just pushed and pulled and got him up off the stony and sandy waterline, out of the way, and then fastened a huge chain around his neck. He still couldn’t move, couldn’t blink, and by now his eyes were watering. He listened as they dragged the two Akalak up the beach as well. Then, one by one, he heard the woman stop and do something to each man. Finally she was at his side. A large iron collar was fastened on him that glowed in the same way the drum had. Sky didn’t know where the drum was. He couldn’t see it. As soon as the collar was in place, however, the younger man issued an order to him. “Sleep”. And despite anything he was feeling, doing, or seeing, the kelvics eyelids obeyed, dropped closed, and he lost himself to darkness and slumber there on the sand.

When he awoke in the morning, he definitely wasn’t in Riverfall anymore. No one was around. There was no camp, no signs of inhabitants, and no real evidence that anything that had happened to him the night before was real. There were two drag marks up the sand and a small path leading into what appeared to be tropical jungle. There were no signs of the man, woman, or the two Kuvay’Nas guards.

Relocation Wasn't My First Choice (Skyard Please)

Skyard rose from his sudden slumber only to find that he was now in a strange environment. He felt as if it were mere moments ago that he underwent the most strange form of “torture” that he had ever experienced. The Lion thought that he had some sort of strange delusion as a result of the alcohol that he consumed through the night prior. However as he reached upward to confirm whether or not the events had been a dream; he was shocked the moment his fingertips grazed what felt like a metallic collar about the circumference of his neck. Had he finally fallen victim to the very thing that he worked so hard to avoid? Had he truly been enslaved, and taken away from everything he ever cared for? Earlier he could have sworn that there were multiple individuals other than himself; that he witnessed undergo the same treatment he had. He could recall the events as if they happened ticks ago, and remembered the strange music which immobilized him and eventually physically tormented him. Now he had suddenly woke to find that he was a slave? Skyard felt a massive sense of despair wash over him, and knew that if he did not move soon he would surely be taken away as well. The others had all gone missing, and his irises locked on to the drag marks in the sand. They led into a large amount of vegetation, and Skyard was reluctant to follow the trail.

If Sky knew one thing; it was never to be overly curious because often times curiosity led to danger. He did not want to put himself in a situation even worse than the one he had currently been in. His mind raced so rapidly that he could hardly keep up with his own thought process. Skyard searched desperately for a solution to his current problem, and his hand clasped away at the metallic collar around his neck. It seemed to have an odd incandescence all of its own, and Skyard as a practitioner of magic could recognize it when he saw it, and he knew that he could very well be wrong. However he felt that it was safe to assume the collar possessed magical properties. Therefore he decided that his animal form would not be possible to achieve, and perhaps the sole purpose of it being fastened around his neck was to prevent his transformation. The Lion became furious in an instant once he realized what happened to him; he had been forcefully taken away from his home. More importantly he had been taken away from Kaie, and that made his blood boil. The platinum-blondes jaw clenched so tightly that he felt a slight pain in his teeth. He swiftly rose to his feet, and although he felt slightly weak he began the pursuit for an exit.

Skyard analyzed his surroundings briefly, and realized that he had been surrounded by water. He was not an adept swimmer, and knew that he could not possibly use the water to get away, however he was stuck with a split decision. Would he travel the path that the drag marks lead to, or would he try to find an alternate method of escape? He quickly grew frustrated and realized that if there were already drag marks perhaps the other individuals were taken, and he was next. That meant he had a very small window of time to weigh his options; which resulted in an irrational decision to dart off toward the path despite him knowing nothing about the environment. The area was incredibly humid, and he drew heavy breaths as he paced away and leaves rustled beneath his feet.

He saw multiple species of creature that he had not been familiar with. Skyard was not the most adventurous of his kind, and often refused to find out more about his surroundings. Perhaps Amunet was correct when her curiosity took her away; because she had the opportunity to learn what to do when outside of her home environment. Skyard however knew nothing, and as a result of knowing nothing he faced the consequence of walking into the unknown. He heard multiple noises, and the heavy scent of salt filled his nostrils. He grew increasingly paranoid with each and every step that he took; the plants were incredibly vibrant in coloration. Some of them varied in color, but the majority showed signs of a healthy environment.

He did not want to call out to anyone in hopes to prevent being heard by any other beasts in the area. Without the ability to transform he knew that he was a vulnerable target. Even with the minimal combative skill that he acquired he knew that an unknown foe was a formidable one. Several thorns slammed into the soles of his feet, and his clothing was soaked wet. Drenched in a combination of sweat, and ocean water. He decided that he would gamble; perhaps with his life by delivering a blood curdling scream. He wanted to know what else was in the area, and nothing disturbed the calm and quiet of nature moreso than a disturbance in the wind. Skyard crouched for a moment, and saw that the vegetation on the ground was much thinner along the straight path. He attempted to hide alongside a tall palm Tree, in an attempt to avoid any potential danger.

His voice was raw in his throat. The scream came out, but it was more like a mid-tone broken cry than a true blood curdling scream. Part of that was because his tongue was swollen and there was the overwhelming taste of salt in his mouth. Silence surrounded him for a moment which meant he hadn’t realized how noisy the jungle and beach was around him until all the insects and critters hidden in the foliage went quiet. The quiet of the immediate area just made the gentle lapping of the tides all that much louder. It was obviously ebbing. The pause in the noise of the world lasted for two or three breaths and then the birdsong came back, and so too did the incessant chirping of what might have been crickets except for the off tones and not quite high enough pitch.

It was a pretty place, even if his situation was less than ideal. The collar was tight on him, almost choking him, though he could swallow with discomfort so he could breath and eat without restriction. It was smooth completely around, having no raised portions save for where the chain fastened on and looped around his neck like it was stored away extra since he was tethered to nothing.

The twin drag marks vanished as the trail opened up. The Kelvic lion was right. The trail held very little vegetation. It was simply worn sand, mud, and a bit of grass here and there. But Skyard did not take the trail. He moved to the side of it, looking for cover in the vegetation. The palm he picked to hide behind was as big as he was, but the cover around it was minimal. That meant unless he was straight across from whomever might seek him, he was still slightly visible even in his dirty wet clothing. He’d notice his body felt weak too, like he’d ran a very long way or had been keeping Kaie up all night in one of their marathon lovemaking sessions. His chest hurt, so too did his limbs, and his reaction times were off because of the sluggishness.

The trail meandered off, unpretentiously to the west. The beach ran to his north and south, and what he could only guess was the Suvan Sea lay immediately east. It was obviously morning because the light was weak and the sun was still low in the east.

With his heightened senses and because he was standing hidden and being quiet, Skyard heard their approach long before he saw them. The first sign was their scent. Human, but off, as if they weren’t quite right. The second thing he noticed was their dress. They wore skin hugging garments that were made of something that almost reminded him of hardened silk or flexible soft mold-able leather. It was an odd substance, and something they’d changed from the previous night where they’d been dressed in standard Riverfall garb. The clothing was smooth, molted green and brown as if to camouflage them, and held insignias that looked like military uniforms. High boots and a belt of equipment encased their hips. They were, of course, arguing again. Both were obviously armed with daggers on their arms, belts, and the female held something that looked like a crystal encased in a steel rod. The crystal tip of the wand-like device glowed.

The male glanced at something in his hand. It looked like a book, but it too glowed where it was opened. He shook his head, paused, and turned in a circle until he was facing where Skyard was partially hidden.

“Come out. I know you’re up and on your feet.“
The man said. The woman scowled and muttered to the man. “We are wasting our time. The kelvics have been all but useless anyhow. We should have left him in Riverfall. The Akalaks have more value to us. They are harder to kill.” She said, moving off to the side where she could get a bit of a glimpse at Sky’s hiding place. “Besides, the drum probably has scrambled his brains beyond repair anyhow.” The woman smirked, glanced at the man, and they both started forward together, not waiting for Sky to come out of his hiding place.

The man spoke again.

“I’ll make this really easy on you. Come out. There’s no place for you to go and nothing to do about being here. You are hundreds of miles from Riverfall at the moment and across the sea. There’s no one here but us two, our companions, and yourself. You’ve everything to lose if you don’t cooperate.” He added, gesturing with the book..

“He’s hiding behind that palm. It’s the only life sign reading I’m getting that’s big enough.” The man indicated with his book again.

Relocation Wasn't My First Choice (Skyard Please)

“He knows where I am, and I can no longer keep up this game of cat and mouse. Even if I do choose to run I will be caught. “ Skyard thought to himself as he contemplated whether or not he would surrender himself. He did not know if he could defeat that strange pair, and he saw them out the corner of his eye. However, he did have the option to use the gift Wysar gave him in order to help him if he so chose to fight. The man who spoke aloud sounded convincing enough; Skyard looked over and saw some sort of magical book he wielded. Was that the weapon that immobilized him, and helped them take him captive? Perhaps they were physically weak, but their flaws were compensated for by their competence in magic. Skyard did not fear for himself, but he feared that he would never be able to reunite with Kaie. The last thing he wanted to do was die, and he knew that he could not afford to pass away without seeing his beloved again.

He inhaled, and exhaled briefly while he finalized his decision. If he ran the pair would likely hunt him down with ease. After all, even when he hid himself to the best of his ability they found him with no issue. If he were to run he would likely be met with the same fate that he had when he was captured initially. Kaie hated “dhani” magic, and now Skyard understood why that was; because of the fact that even the weak could become strong through its use. His jaw clenched, and although he was fatigue beyond belief with a collar fastened around his neck he wanted to fight. Skyard quickly stood upon his feet, and turned to face his adversaries.

The Kelvic paid close attention to detail, and attempted to memorize all of the information that he could all at once. They wore strange garments that helped them blend in with the environment one was male and the other a female. He was currently in an area that he suspected he was supposed to be removed from and relocated to another area. However, since he chose to be the rebellious one and run away they went out of their way to find him. “If they had any real intention to kill me they would've done it a long time ago..” Skyard thought to himself as he glared at the destructive duo, and he hardly managed to clench his hands into fists.

Skyard began to take up a fighting stance, but he quickly realized that he would hardly be able to put up a fight at all. He knew the limitations of his body, and as a user of the Flux he did not want to destroy himself in attempt to kill two people that were far more powerful than him. He gave the pair a display of teeth, and his muscles flexed for a brief moment. Fury filled his eyes, and all he wanted to do was return home. Why did they take him away from a place so valuable to him; they were not considerate of him at all. Skyard could have had a wife, children, and a family. Yet, they wanted so badly to take him away and now he was here.

Although his tongue was swollen he attempted to muster up words to speak to the pair. “I... do not...fear you... Pathetic... Scum..” He spoke before he finally gave up, and he quickly gave up the fighting stance in order to stand upright. Skyard did not want to be killed, and he knew that his body could not possibly undergo anymore punishment. He surrendered, and raised his hands upright whilst he paced forward. If he died now then he would have no chance of ever seeing his beloved again, but if he survived he would have that possibility. The Kelvic would do anything in his power to stay alive; even if it meant to surrender to a man. He wished he was more powerful so that he could crush their skulls with his bare hands. Yet, since he could not transform he was powerless, and the best option was to give up. Skyard for lack of better words attempted to say a prayer under his breath.

“Wysar, I know that you may or may not hear my prayer, but my lord if it is your will... Help me survive these troubled times..”
Skyard whispered to himself

Relocation Wasn't My First Choice (Skyard Please)

The woman gripped the steel rod tighter. Her whole body was tense and expectant. It was as if she was a warrior, not necessarily someone who knew magic. The man with the book looked up from it as Sky stepped out. Both of the two individuals kept their eyes on him as he revealed his hiding place. The woman had a scowl on her face that seemed to indicate she’d heard his words, at least part of them.

The man continued with the orders. “Unwrap that chain that’s attached to the collar from around your neck where we loosely left it draped and hand it to Shellah here.” He said indicating the woman as she stepped closer to Sky. Her grip on the rod was firm and she kept moving until she was just close enough to him that she could either take the length of chain from Sky’s hand if he offered it or she could touch him with the rod.

The man himself kept talking. “I’m Kalas and this is Shellah. I’m sorry for the manner in which you arrived here but you were caught up in something else we were doing accidentally. I’m afraid you are hundreds of miles and across the sea from Riverfall. There is nothing and no one in the jungle around us here in Falyndar. If you run, something will most likely eat you, especially since we fastened the collar on you. Shellah knows you are kelvic. It wasn’t hard to spot. I wouldn’t suggest trying to shift with the collar on. The moment you do it will infuse your body with a great deal of pain and prevent you from shifting. It is on you for our protection as well as yours. We are not sure of who you are and how friendly you might be.” He added, sounding like it was a memorized speech, one he’d used quite frequently.

The woman outstretched her hand, waiting for Sky to lay the chain in her palm. Her other hand held the rod at ready as if she was going to use it as a defensive weapon if Sky decided to attack. “We are newly returned from off world.” The woman said, studying Sky closely, not taking her eyes off him. “We are still getting our bearings as we set up camp. Since you are awake and aware, can you also tell us what year it is?” She said softly, her voice gentle and her eyes seemingly lacking the coldness Kalas’ eyes held as he stared at Sky. She might be the warrior, but it was as if she felt Sky might be young, stupid, or both and wanted to reassure him by asking him some easy questions before anything went on any further.

"There was a research facility near here once. Have you ever heard of anything like that being in the area?" She asked as well, seeming to add to her questions for Skyard. They both waited, holding their breath, hoping the kelvic would make a move and one they deemed as the right move.

Relocation Wasn't My First Choice (Skyard Please)

Skyard listened to them talk, and despite the fact that he had surrendered he began to plan an escape. The pair were obviously confident in their ability to subdue him quickly; not to mention they were smart enough to collar him. Perhaps they were well aware of the fact that beneath his current slender physique laid a large predator. However, he thought that them knowing what his Kelvic form was would have been impossible without them having seen it first hand. Perhaps during the time that he slept they experimented with him and found out. The very thought of the pair having tampered with his body made him very upset, yet at the same time it intrigued him. They went as far as to give him their names, and he was far more concerned with the female than he was with the male.

He felt absolutely insulted when he was given the command to offer up the chain to the wench that helped take him captive. He did not bother to voice himself due to the fact that he hardly could at all; he was parched beyond belief and if he could speak more easily he would tell them about themselves. Underwood proceeded to follow the command, and swiftly grasped hold of the chain in order to hand it to the woman. He paid close attention to the strange weapon she held in her hand; weapons were for cowards that were too weak to first master their bodies. The Kelvic absolutely hated each and every moment that passed; he felt as if they had just made him their pet.

“Pretty little whore.” He mouthed off to the woman as he dropped the chain in her palm, and he continued to listen closely to the woman. He asked what year it was, and apparently she had returned from the “off world”. Skyard never once in his life heard of this “off world” yet, he did answer the question without hesitation. “The year is 516 A.v” Skyard spoke in a hushed tone due to the fact that he was so dehydrated. Another question exited her lips regarding some research facility, and he had absolutely no knowledge of the area. How in the hell was he supposed to know anything about this strange place they brought him to?

Skyard had an ocean full of questions to ask, but he would not bother to pester them. After all, he knew that taunting the people who could take his life as they so pleased was not a good idea. Skyard absolutely hated the thought of the fact that he could not escape the pair. They were right about the fact that if he could not transform he could not possibly defend himself. He went on to answer the question about the research facility. “How the petch am I supposed to know jack shyke about this area? You two brought me here against my will and I know absolutely nothing!” He snapped at the woman who bothered to ask him such a foolish question.

Skyard wanted to know more about the area; although it was gorgeous with the words that the man said it was obviously incredibly dangerous too. He memorized as much as possible about the entirety of the words they spoke to him as well. They were setting up camp, and obviously in the area there had not been much of a civilization. The Lion did not understand for the life of him why they brought him here, and wanted to know so badly that he began to obsess over it until he finally outburst and asked.

“Why am I here... Why, why did you people take me away from her.. Why did I survive... why did you not slay me?” He beckoned the pair.
