Run till the Music stops

Postby Eleazar Victor Syroin on May 30th, 2014, 9:28 pm

20th of Spring, 514A.V.

Seemed the whole of Sunberth had decided to join in the festivities that day. This didn't surprise Eleazar that much. After that long hard winter, he was more than ready to cut loose, enjoy himself and take advantage of the increased number of drunks to pickpocket. Still, even the thief couldn't have estimated the number of stalls and stands that had popped up by the Slag heap over the course of that day. It was almost crazy. He had only heard the rumours of a party that morning and already the half the town had invited themselves along. Musicians had crawled out the wood work, dusting off their instruments as performers of all types seemed to have prepared to make their debut that night. There again, what could be more Sunberthian than taking an opportunity and running with it.

From his spot in the increasingly lively crowd, Eleazar was having trouble deciding where to look first. Stall owners yelled out their wares; selling food, drinks, scarves and other small small trinkets while people flung they're bodies about in whirls of sweat and colour in the fire's smoke. The nearest of the stalls were selling booze whilst further out one of their neighbours was manning a hog roast. The smell of the slow charring meat had the teen's brain momentarily forgot to keep walking with the flow of the crowd. A wave of curses and elbow quickly reminded him. Getting roughly pushed out to the edge of the impromptu dance floor, he refocused himself on the task in hand. Gazing out at the sea of people, the thief began to plot his course of action.

The stalls that had been set up were too near the centre of the party to rob from, he'd be caught before he could even get close of escaping. However that didn't mean all hope was lost. There were still plenty of miza laden people about that he could 'borrow' from as they flitted from one bottle to the next. Deciding that standing around was doing him no good, the thief began to search for a potential target. He stayed nearer the edges of the gathering looking for drunks or other easy targets. After circling around at least twice, Eleazar finally spotted a group of rowdy men. They were a little too far in for his tastes but they were also fairly liquored up and distracted amongst themselves to care much for the surrounding chaos. Singling out a male whose head kept lolling to the side as he giggled and forgot about the bag next to him, the thief closed in.

Trying to be as casual as possible, Eleazar strolled toward his target. Passing by the man, the teen tried not to make eye contact with any of the group as he grabbed the bag. Calmly slinging the strap over his shoulder he fought the urge to look behind him as he continued to walk away. The man thankfully was still distracted by a his friend's probably fictional tale. This unfortunately didn't last for more than a few strides. Soon he heard raised voices behind him and could feel searching eyes on his back. Nope. Losing his nerve, Eleazar set off in a sprint. Dipping and diving for spaces in the stream of people, he tried to get away from the crowd before the man and his friends got to him.

Run till the Music stops

Taking a break once he reached the edge of the crowd. Eleazar's head was spinning a little. He hadn't eaten much recently and long periods of running were definitely not his friend. Hands on his knees as he sucked in air, the thief wearily watched the crowd. Had he lost them? There wasn't anyone coming for him through the crowd but it wasn't like sunberthians to give up that easily. Straightening up, his nerves on edge as he peered over the gathering, Eleazar almost missed the man rounding the edge of the crowd. Stepping back as the man barrelled towards and then past him, the thief flailed slightly to regain his balance as his eye caught a hold of two more bodies heading his way

“Petch!”

Getting his feet moving once again, The teens lungs laboured against his ribs as tin coated his tongue. A quick glance behind him confirmed that body number one had righted itself and was once again after him and that a fourth body had joined the chase. Oh, what great fun. Turning down the nearest street, Eleazar's mental map had him heading towards the docks. Not the best place to be but he knew a few sneaky ways out of there. Hearing panting on his right, the teen quickly found out that body number three could be nearly as quick as he was and was infinitely more pissed off. Well shyke. The next turn for the docks had been on his left too. Now stuck having to come up with a new plan on the fly, Eleazar tried to think of a way to lose his current problems.

Focusing on getting his breathing under control, the thief kept running as the men drew closer. In and out, nice and slow and even breaths. Ignoring the burn mounting in his legs, Eleazar spared a look toward speedy number three. He was still keeping pace though looking a little worn, guess he wasn't used to going this fast regularly. Good. Maybe the thief could out run them before his legs fully fatigued. It was a gamble but this lot, although they were no where near as fast or sober as him, could certainly outdistance him if he wasn't careful. Sparing another look toward speedy three, Eleazar saw that he had slowed down a lot, his breathing uneven and the rage that had fuelled him this far diminishing. Further back behind him, the other bodies were still jogging along though number one had slowed to a walk. Brilliant but he wasn't out of the woods yet.

Bolting it down the next alley Eleazar almost barrelled past a door way before realising it's potential. Catching the edge of the doorway, the thief's body lurched forward before swinging back as he turned and entered the doorway stumbling up the noisy stairs that appeared on his right. Dashing across the equally as creaky hall way, the teen collapsed at the end of it in a lazy heap. The moment he dropped to his knees everything hit him at once. Heaving in air violently, the thief couldn't hear anything other than his heart pounding in his ears. His legs hurt, his lungs hurts, his ears were ringing and the tin taste in his mouth was threatening to make him gag. He had miscalculated how long he would be sprinting and it was costing him now. Dizzy, the teen rested his head against the wall as his breathing and heart rate decreased.

Run till the Music stops

Somewhere in the distance of the street, he would hear voices softly whispering to him, ignoring these Eleazar tried to focus on what he was sure was real. He was fairly certain could hear bodies one through four dash past the door way only to slow down when they reached the other side of the alley and couldn't spot him, meaning he had to get moving again soon. With his breathing back to a steady rate and a head clear enough for him to move, Eleazar only then realised he had trapped himself. Shyke. This had been a bad idea. Listening the loud confused calls between his pursuers, the teen realised he had to find a way to relocate now. Heading back down the stairs was a no go and then moment that they figured he was hiding, it wouldn't take long for them to guess where he had gone. Shyke. Fighting was out too. There were four of them and one of him, that would only end badly. Feeling fear rise and knot it self in his stomach, Eleazar's hand reached back and tapped the window sill behind him. It tapped and tapped and then looking at it, suddenly the thief had an idea.

Digging his nails into the sill, the thief gave it a test tug. The window roughly slid upwards a fraction. Happy with this, the teen braced his hands against the bottom of the window and pushed it as hard as he could. The window obeyed reluctantly, it's age making the thief's job harder. Poking his head outside, the teen looked about. The window lead out to next to a fence that would lead into the next alleyway over. Not a great advantage but an advantage none the less. Hearing the group of bodies get closer to the building on the side with the entrance, Eleazar made up his mind. Clambering up on to the sill before ducking low and out the window, Eleazar was sensible enough not to look down. Being careful to keep his feet parallel to the sill, the thief tried not to consider how precarious his new position was.

Stretching up, he stabilised his balance by grabbing the underside edge of the roof. Now with the immediate possibility of falling to his death out the way, he pushed the window closed with his spare hand as far as his arm would let him. Unable to push the window any further, Eleazar moved his other hand to grab the frame surrounding the window as he lifted a foot to finish the job. Sliding the window fully closed with his toes, the thief repositioned himself on the sill. Peering down to consider how to climb down, the sound of foot steps banished that thought from his mind. They would immediately see him through the window the moment they reached the top of the stairs. Nope! Not good! He would have to move now!

Run till the Music stops

Postby Eleazar Victor Syroin on May 28th, 2016, 5:53 pm

Noting the other window to his left, the thief sprang into action immediately. Shifting his hand's grab along the roof, the teen carefully made baby steps along the sill to it's edge. Lifting one leg up, he stretched over and placed it on the other sill. Making sure his foot was secure, he made a quick shift of his hand from one window's frame to the next's. Using the hand grabbing the roof for balance and pulling on the new frame, Eleazar hopped his last leg over to the new frame. Wobbling a little, the teen relaxed though he was now facing away from the building, the opposite from what he would need to get down. Swapping his hands around, he carefully twisted around and repositioned his feet on the sill so he was now facing into the building. His new window lead into a small flat, thankfully unoccupied at the moment.

Now safer from his pursuers, the thief contemplated his new hiding spot. His arms were beginning to hurt from the strain of supporting his body and getting down was going to be great 'fun'. While he could always jump, since he was only on the second floor, the risk of breaking or injuring his legs was too great. Pondering how to go about climbing down, the thief froze when the sound of voices and footsteps reached the corridor across from him. Shyke, this wasn't good. Trying to remain as quiet as possible although the thief was fairly sure they could hear his heart pounding against his rib cage from where they, no doubt, stood. Pressing into the frame when a face reflected against the hallway window, Eleazar held his breath. That wasn't a normal face. Shyke! Mind don't do this again. Ignoring what might have been maggots wiggling about on the man's face, the teen let what felt like chimes tick by as sweat poured over his body making keeping his grip difficult. Finally, the face left the window and the sound of the bodies heading out the building echoed into Eleazar's ears.

Letting out a deep sigh and breathing easier again, Eleazar's mind returned to the task of getting down. Feeling his hands slip, he frantically re-grabbed at his hand holds, trying not to notice how sweaty his palms had gotten. He was going to fall if he stayed here. Damn it. Making the mistake of looking down, Eleazar immediately regretted it when the ground bounced up towards him before disappearing away for miles. Oh great. Taking long slow careful breathes, Eleazar moved the hand grabbing the roof down to join it's partner on the window frame. With both hands griping firmly, the thief slowly lowered himself towards the ledge. Sliding one of his feet back wards, he carefully rested his knee against the ledge. Moving his hands down the frame, the thief slid back his other foot coming to kneel fully on the window ledge. Right now for the tricky bit.

Run till the Music stops

Postby Eleazar Victor Syroin on June 17th, 2016, 6:56 pm

Bracing his hands, the thief leant forward until his forehead hit the window before moving one of his knees away from the sill. Trying desperately to not fall, he stretched out his leg downwards searching for the next window down. Houses in Sunberth tended to at least have a window frame in each room, even if the window frame was just there to hold shutters. Frowning when he couldn't find it the thief swung his leg back and forth across the wall still not finding any thing. Readjusting his position as his palms grew sweatier, the thief tried to stretch his leg down further. Still not finding the window sill, Eleazar pushed himself away from the window slightly.

This turned out to be a mistake. Realising that he had misjudged his balance a tick too late, Eleazar's knee slid beneath him. This stomach scraped along the window sill has his shoulders followed it, bruising his elbows on the way down before his hands gracelessly slipped from the sill entirely. On the plus side on the way down his foot found the sill of the next window down, causing his leg to inadvertently push his torso away from the wall as it fell the last three feet to the fairly solid but luckily dry ground. Letting out a groan as bruises and scrape marks began to get back to him, Eleazar decided to not move for the next few chimes keeping his eyes closed.

Finally willing himself to get up, the teen slowly walked towards the fence he'd seen from the window. It stood at chest height to him, letting him peer over and check the alley for his pursuers. There were none. His little gamble had had some success it seemed. A trick to remember for the future it seemed. Grabbing the top of the wall, the thief jumped, locking his arms at the elbows and keeping his feet off the ground. Leaning forward, he tried to swing himself over the fence though ended up simply flipping nose first into the ground on the other side. Spitting dirt from his face and grimacing as new bruises met newer bruises still, Eleazar slowly picked himself out of the street.

Breathing heavily, he wandered out the alley. The world was still warping if he stared too long at any one thing so he kept moving. Better to deal with what was real and what wasn't in the safety of his own room than out here. Reaching the end of the alley, he could vaguely hear his pursuers yelling at each other the next street over. Not planning on letting them find him, Eleazar kept moving. A detour via the docks and down a few of the quieter and shadier alleys Sunberth had to offer, he had arrived at his apartment. Opening the door, he dropped the bag on the floor planning on finding out it's worth after a good rest. The lock clicked into place as it always did, leaving the thief to wobble over to his bed and collapse into the sweet grip of dreams.
