Deliath Telori

8th Fall, 516
Deliath had recently visited the new tavern named 'No Man's Land' and found herself noticing the job board. Her funds were running low and she knew that she needed some way to earn a little extra, if she wanted to improve her knowledge of herbalism, alongside the little that she was earning from her job as a Barmaid.

On the job board she'd spotted one for cleaning up the library, but on further inspection that one had already been taken, which left only one other job that she liked the look of - helping to unload the cargo from ships at the docks. Sure she wasn't the strongest person around, but she was sure she'd be able to manage, and if she couldn't she'd just have to grin and bear it and hope that it might give her an idea of what people did at the docks.

Now it was time for her to make her way to the docks, and she'd woken up early in order to make sure she wasn't late, but now she felt nervous. Of course she knew she'd be a bit nervous, after all, if she messed up she risked breaking someone's property and she really didn't want to have to pay to replace anything.

Sighing, she pushed her hair out of her face and set off towards the docks, constantly aware of what was going on around her. She found that she couldn't fully relax, even though she had got used to Sunberth and nothing severely bad had happened to her. Sure she'd been pickpocketed a few times before, but nothing violent.

Swiftly putting one foot in front of the other, it wasn't long before she found herself at the docks, a cool sea breeze touching her skin and making her shiver slightly.

She glanced around for a while. It was fairly busy and seemed that a few more ships had arrived from yesterday, but there was one person that seemed more organised and in charge than the rest. He was male, and only slightly taller than her

Smiling she stepped over to the man and looked up at him, running a hand through her hair to push it out of her face

"'Scuse me, are you the one who posted the advert looking for someone to help unload cargo?" she asked, tilting her head before seeing the man smile somewhat amused. She was confused for a few minutes before she realised that she probably wasn't quite what he was hoping for when he posted the advert on the job board. She wasn't the strongest after all, although that was something she was hoping to work on, maybe gain some skills that might help out after dark in the shadier areas of Sunberth.

"Yer, well, the ships tha' own o'er there! We need yer t' get the boxes on i' and bring them down t' 'ere." the man spoke quickly, but clearly as he pointed to one of the ships that stood several feet away, docked comfortably on Cherry Ba, and then to a small pile of crates and boxes at the start of the pier. "There are others 'elping ou' so if there's anything yer can' lift, leave i' to 'em." the man said again and Deliath nodded, turning to look at the ship he had pointed to.

It was a large ship, obviously designed for the transportation of goods, definitely not passengers. She imagined that the crews quarters were small and cramped to make up for the amount of room needed for whatever cargo they were transporting, although it was probably a close knit community aboard the ship with the crew spending weeks without seeing anyone other than their fellow crew members.

Smiling, she walked up to the ship and onto the gangplank, noticing all of the crates and boxes that had 'Sunberth' written on them in bold, dark lettering.
She didn't ask anybody what was in them, or which needed taking first, she just bent at the waist, grabbed the nearest box that she could fit her arms around and straighten her form to pick it up.

It was heavier than she first imagined, and she had to compensate for that weight a bit more by bending her knees slightly and leaning back to keep herself from falling over on top of the box. It was obvious that she hadn't really expected it to be that heavy, but that was her own fault for not concentrating. She just hoped that nobody was silently mocking her as she carried the box down the gangplank and made her way to the start of the pier, before carefully setting the box down.

"One down and Syna knows how many left to go!" she thought to herself before making her way back to the cargo ship. She was wondering what was inside the cargo, although she assumed it was nothing too important, seeing as whoever owned it was fine with letting a commoner they had never met before unload it, especially in Sunberth of all places! For all they knew, she could have been a thief just waiting for the right moment to drop one of the crates overboard to a friend down below. Of course, Deliath wasn't, but anybody else taking the job could easily have been a thief.

Deliath Telori

Sighing, Deliath made her way back onto the ship and picked out another crate. This one was slightly bigger than the last crate but still fit quite comfortably in her arms.

Frowning briefly, she bent down and picked it up, this time bending her knees and keeping her back straight in an attempt to prevent any injuries she may have encountered, and it seemed to work as she straightened up and felt nothing other than the weight of the box in her arms.

She started walking, making sure to carefully place each foot in front of the other to make sure she didn't accidentally step on anything wet or uneven, or worse, into thin air. She didn't want to risk injury herself, since later in the day she was working at the Pigs Foot Tavern again, and she wanted to be able to work decently in order to try and earn some money to save towards more herbalism tools and a poisoncrafters kit.

She walked carefully and slowly, feeling the crate beginning to slip from her hands before she stopped and bent her knee, resting the crate on it briefly as she adjusted her hand position to make it slightly more comfortable as she carried it towards where she had put the other box before she felt her foot catch on something and she almost fell, until she hopped slightly, regaining her balance and taking a moment to breathe before she turned back to the ship, ready to grab another crate.

As she approached the ship, she noticed a man begin to carry a large crate down the pier towards the pile of cargo.
She watched him as she began to realise that the box was far to large for the man to comfortably carry, and as she watched him, she noticed the crate starting to slip from his grasp.

Worried, she quickened her pace towards him and carefully placed her hands on the other side of the crate to him, hoping that her help would be appreciated, but she couldn't help but notice the scowl on his face.
To her it appeared that the man wasn't happy with the way she had jumped in to help out. Maybe he was most annoyed at her being a woman, and a weak woman at that, but it wasn't anything she was a stranger to. Many times, both in Syliras and Sunberth, she'd been looked down on, purely for being what she was, but she'd always tried to avoid letting it get to her and cause her to stop trying to help. After all, some people were very grateful when she tried to help out.

Despite the scowl on the mans face, he begrudgingly accepted her help and in silence they carefully manoeuvred the crate to the pile that held the rest of the cargo and place it down, before standing up straight.

The man glared at Deliath before turning around and walking back over to the ship in a quick, angry fashion, more than obviously annoyed by her, and Deliath shrugged her shoulders and sighed.

Priskil give me strength... she thought to herself as she watched the man get closer to the ship, before she started after him, forcing herself to smile despite feeling slightly downtrodden.

It wasn't long before she reached the pier near the ship and before she could even get onto the ship, she found a crate practically being thrown at her.
She fumbled clumsily as she caught the crate, adjusted her arms and hands several times until it felt as though the crate was balanced, although very uncomfortably, before she turned on her heel, almost falling again, until she faced the pile of cargo and she set off again, placing one foot in front of the other until she got to the pile and could place the box down and carefully shake each arm which had gone slightly numb.

Then she stood for a moment looking over all the crates and boxes. Some were very large, while others were fairly small. All she could say was similar about them was that none of them were in the best condition, but that was to be expected. Decent shipping containers were expensive, and the cheaper ones would always damage easier. Chances were that these crates were fairly old too, but they did their jobs and hadn't fell apart yet.

Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she turned and headed back to the ship to see that the crates that one person, well human, could have lifted had gone and only large, two human crates were left.

Finding herself smiling, she noticed a man attempting to pick up a crate, this one far too large for himself, and obviously too heavy judging by the way he was straining.

"Can I help at all?" she asked as she stepped over to the man, ready to help him if he approved and she smiled even wider as she saw him nod.
She instantly bent down and took hold of the other side of the crate before the man started a three count and they both stood up, bringing the crate with them.
It was a clumsy process, but they had reached a standing position without dropping the crate or damaging it further, although the man she was helping didn't seem to have faired so well. He appeared to have pulled a muscle in his back while he was straining to lift the crate on his own.

Silently, Deliath shook her head in disapproval at how the man had attempted to lift such a heavy crate, wishing that people would try to look after themselves more.
