DEVIANCE IS PART OF A PERFECT WORLD
Timestamp: 52nd of Summer 510 AV

With two kills each, Jette and Eris continue the battle. The fifth Nuit was distressed at his personal conflict, screaming madly in his native tongue. It continued to fight itself, growling, jumping, kicking around. He was beyond helping. They could kill it, or let it die on its own.

Back to the mouth of the tunnel was the unlikely trio, Darak and Varubicht in their alternate forms, Lahumni trailing behind. Jette and Eris had witnessed how Darak ordered the First Mate to kill herself. If earlier discussion counted, Varubicht may have ordered Lahumni to fight alongside him. If so, it would only mean that Lahumni will die fighting with and for Master Varubicht. Pity, but since when did Nuits cherish the notion of pity?

Darak's lengthy body, mass of torsos slithered yonder. He swayed sarcastically, lashing words and claws at Varubicht. Lahumni would shield Varubicht from any attack - an effective way of suicide. It would not be long until she loses too much ichor. Varubicht, on the other hand, tried to maul Darak with all his limbs (including the extra ones).

The battle was still within the dark caverns, not leaving a lot of room for movement. Jette's mark from Myri was still pulsating, and Eris' rage fueling an ember in her heart. They had chosen their side and they chose loyalty. A hard thing to stand by to, especially when dealing with undead. It said something about the women's fortitude. Maybe it was only right that they have found their way into this particular quest. It was a test of character more than an expedition for gold. Behind them, two ruby eyes twinkled.

The fight was a draw, even with the presence of Lahumni. Scent of rot would assault Jette and Eris if they ever choose to run to Varubicht's aid. The battle was even, but it would take a simple interference to tip the scales in favor for one side. Yes, the outcome was for Jette and Eris to decide.

For a moment, Eris watched the thrashing Nuit, transfixed by the extent of his pain. He appeared helpless and so eager to die… That wasn’t how it should have been… Not how death should have been welcomed. Still riding the euphoric, killing edge, she swung her dagger at the Nuit’s neck. The bone splintered with a sickening crack, but the head did not come off. The Nuit still thrashed in agony, even as blood spurted out from the severed artery. Eris shuddered and sunk her dagger into his flesh one more, this time succeeding in separating the head from the neck. Once the limp body lay harmlessly on the ground, Eris’s gaze traveled to the fight that had been raging at the mouth of the tunnel.

It was the most grotesque spectacle Eris had ever seen. The Nuits had ceased to appear like human or like anything even remotely normal. All Eris could see was a mass of limbs and ichor – two monsters mercilessly attacking each other and poor Lahumni in the midst of it all.

Eris’s hand clutched the dagger convulsively. What now? What could she do? What could they do? She edged a little closer to Varubicht and Darak, her body shaking with exhilaration and fear. You were hired to fight, girl. So, fight for the gods’ sake. Fight! Joel’s voice screamed in her mind – the only clear thought among the mass confusion. Fight. That is what she would do.

She rushed to Varubicht’s side, ducking a stray limb as she ran. She tried to find a weakness in the mess of limbs and heads that Darak had become, but the task proved to be impossible. There was just too much of him to cover in one glance. So, she lashed out blindly with her dagger, cutting some part or other of the massive body. In return, she was pushed away by something that vaguely resembled a tentacle. She staggered backward, her left hand clutching her side. Was she so irrelevant that this mutilated Nuit wouldn’t even consider her a worthy opponent? She hissed and dived back into the fray, trying to pinpoint the best place to strike Darak.

[Quest, part 2] Deviance is part of a perfect world (gfed)

Jette rushed to help Eris, apparently she had chosen Varubicht's side as well. Together the two women attempted to locate a weak point in Darak's grotesque form, weapons ready for action, hearts beating outside their chests. Both of them were aware that their lives were at stake, and at that moment of vulnerability, the instinct to survive overpowered any other emotion.

Thundering roars shook the cavern, Darak had lashed with one of his limbs, Lahumni evading the bony appendage just in time. The two women were well aware that the Nuit was not moving with her own will: she had been commanded to die, she had been commanded to protect her master. Such a fearful thing it was, to be binded by the Gnosis of the Lord of the Undead.

The ground vibrated with tremors as Varubicht pounded against Darak. Lahumni has started her barrage: she was using Projection against Darak. Both of her arms dangled on her sides: she had ripped them off to assault the enemy with soul-tearing punches. Darak flinched on his left side.

Jette and Eris had found their opening.

Together, neither one talking to each other, the two humans attempted to wound Darak. Jette, with her power coming from Myri, was able to jump forward and slash twice at Darak's skin. The abrasion she caused was nowhere near fatal, and for a moment the enemy shifted his attention to Jette.

Eris' aim was unfocused, and she was able to reach Darak a chime after Jette. She slashed and hacked at what she could, while her companion dug her sword deep. Darak cried out and pulled a huge tentacle to shove both Eris and Jette away. He raised another limb at prepared to whip the women, when Lahumni pulled a limb back with her astral arms. It was all it took Varubicht to land one of his monstrous fists on one of Darak's torsos.

Before the monstrosity that is Varubicht was able to land another packed punch on the enemy's torso, Darak had been able to whip and rip one of Lahumni's arms. When the punch came, Darak had Varubicht by the head, a monster grappling another monster.

With Lahumni temporarily out of commission, Jette and Eris noticed that the biggest torso of Darak was the most vulnerable. No bone shields or mass of heavy appendages was attached to it, which could be the reason why Lahumni tried to bring him down from one side. If they could destroy half of Darak's body and make a good opening, Varubicht could fatally wound the enemy! That is, if he could free himself from Darak's vice-grip.

The adrenaline coursing through Eris’s body stifled any nausea she would have ordinarily felt at the spectacle before her. No coherent thought could form itself in her mind. There was only one idea driving her forward, persistent in its forcefulness and cyclical repetition among Eris’s thoughts. Kill. Kill. Kill. She was good at killing. She could do it, she knew she could. She had killed men and women with living, breathing bodies. Surely, she could destroy a walking corpse.

She saw the opening on one of Darak’s torsos. She saw and she took it, moving purely on instinct. She ducked under the limbs that seemed to be thrashing everywhere around her and dove for the monster’s side. She held her dagger in a death-grip, her wrist straight against the hilt’s length as if it had been fused into it. She hacked and slashed at the bare flesh with the fervor of a madwoman. She wanted to see the monster break…fall part like a child’s discarded toy. The cuts her blade was making were shallow, but frequent.

Once or twice, she felt a tentacle whip across the side of her body. She was sure that her arms were covered in bruises and blood, but she was too involved in the battle to feel the pain at the moment. She was making little attempt at defending herself against any attacks that came her way, her attention focused solely on offense. It wasn’t a very good strategy, but right then, even Joel’s voice couldn’t get through to her.
