Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Clarity, sunshine and a teensy bit of hope, that had been her day today. She had met up with her father for lunch, and he was looking stronger and happier. Usually he just looked lost. Miralyn told him very little of her trip to Zeltiva and of her now ex partner. All he knew was that ‘They’d had a big fight, he hit her once, and she left him immediately at next land where she’d discovered her pregnant status.’ He did not know she killed him, nor did he know she’d lost her mark from Rak’keli, and he did not know the extent of the abuse. He knew she had plans to find a mentor at the Academy and that she was happy enough with her current job and would be fine to raise her daughter. They didn’t talk about any of this today though, rather they talked about nothing of importance. Just simply enjoying eachothers company. It had left Miralyn feeling stronger, which is why today she had the drive to unveil a curiosity of hers she hadn’t been aloud to indulge as a child in Riverfal: That was the Azurite Watch tower.

She stood below the magnificent building now. Around her frail form was a long white skirt and a simple cotton button up that was too big for her and billowed in the wind, gracefully covering her pregnant belly. She hadn’t seen it up close before, at least not alone, and she had NEVER been trusted to go inside. Her mother wouldn’t hear of such a thing. She must have been afraid young her would try to go through it and be lost in another place, or worse, lost forever. The Konti was mostly here today to satisfy a childhood curiosity, but something else was calling her to it today. She just had a feeling, who knows where it came from, that something would happen if she went to the watch tower. She didn’t really understand how a watch tower worked, though, and she knew she would need to talk to the person who ran the thing. She would never go in, of course, she just wanted to see it, even if it was turned off.

Using the walking stick lightly she made her way to the wooden door at the bottom of the tower and hesitated. She wanted to knock, she wanted so badly to knock but her guts were twisting and turning with fear and nerves and she couldn’t figure out way. Her hand was in mid air between the door and her chest, and it shook. What would she even say? She was curious so she thought she’d drop in? Something like that? She wasn’t sure, she hadn’t planned it properly and it was causing her great stress. Eventually she had to take make a decision. Taking in a deep breath and rehearsing normal, non-sarcastic things to say to the owner of the place, knocked three times on the door.

After a while the door was opened to reveal a girl as pale as her, yet she was human. “Hello… Um… Sorry to bother ya, I just came to have a look at your tower because I was very interested in it. I thought it’d be rude not to, ya know, talk to ya, being the guardian an’ all.” She said gruffly, her sailor accent coming through her words a little contrasting her frail form. “If ye’r busy I can come back another day an’ all.” She suggested, scratching the back of her head and looking away nervously.

Azurite Meeting (Rhodri)

Rhodri had planned this trip for some time. Ever since the day at the library when he read about his new god and the way that the master manipulator used the chaos of the Valterrian to steal the heart of Aquiras – the god of doors and travel. The reason the watchtowers were now useless is simply because of Sagallius and his trickery. Rhodri not only felt blessed to understand this about his god but it was exciting. Like the Eypharian, the once mortal mage was born of the sands of Eyktol. It seemed the world was destined to be ruled and conquered by men from that arid place.

The Eypharian had his gear spread out before him on the bed next to his pack. He had his toiletries, a spare change of clothes and some basic rations. He also had his rope, tinder and weapons. Rhodri packed everything into the ruck with a great deal of order and intentionality. Twice he unpacked and repacked because he thought of a better way to access as much of his gear as possible. The man strapped on his belt and went about installing his arsenal. Rope dart went on the left with the punching dagger as a lock for the chain to hold it in place. The aclis –a gift from his grandfather- always went on the right and sat neatly in the big metal loops that the desert brat ordered to be fastened to his belt. Once he was ready to go the man dusted off his black pants and straightened his black shirt. He then used his middle hands to put on his black turban while his upper hands twisted around to sling the black cloak over his shoulders. Rhodri made sure that everything was in place then left his apartment and set out for the watchtower.

In typical fashion, the tall man made sure to avoid contact with people on the streets of Riverfall. It wasn’t that the populace was dirty; the city was quite clean. The issue was that Rhodri was used to a certain amount of protocol in his homeland. Being of the upper class, he was afforded a wide berth on the streets since touching him was the closest thing that many would ever get to being in the presence of a god. Here, in the city of blue ogres, there was no such propriety. This was one of the many issues which the Eypharian had to deal with and when compounded by the confusing and difficult saason that he’d been through, his attitude was less than pleasant.

Having a mission had helped Rhodri take his mind off of short, infuriating and tasty. The young healer had been haunting him for more than a score of nights and even managed to dredge herself into his waking thoughts despite having other tasks to perform. The Eypharian was always twitching his middle right hand as if to play with some unseen fabric that was both dark blue and soft. A scowl settled over his face as he realized what had happened. He bit down on his lower lip and instantly felt that tingle that she had left behind. “Petch!” He barked in Arumenic. The man was tasting the salty sweet of her and it was all in his mind.

The exile doubled his pace so that he had to focus on breathing and where he was going. Otherwise, he’d run into people. By the time he’d reached the bridge, his muscles were feeling a bit rubbery and his lungs burned but he refused to stop. The pain and exertion gave the Eypharian something else to think about as well as a chance to refocus on his task. This shortened his journey by more than a few chimes and it was something he was grateful for discovering but the cost of being tired, breathing heavily and on sore legs now put him in an even fowler mood than before.

When Rhodri arrived outside the Azurite Watchtower, he was a bit flushed but had slowed his pace upon approach to take an opportunity to catch his breath. He noticed one of the pale women who seem to be all over this city standing at the door. He could not hear the conversation nor did he care. The dark eyes lifted from the riffraff on the ground up towards the structure’s tallest point. It was not as impressive as some of the others but a worthy venture just the same. When the man finished with his inspection of the flaking coating on the bricks, he returned it to the woman outside and the one inside. There was something about the eyes of the worker that sent his mind scouring for a reason to explain the odd feeling that crept over him. Like a bolt of lightning through the sky, a chime later Rhodri had his answer.

She was a Vantha.

The posting right inside the city gates explained that the race had been cursed by the gods for their matron deity had fled her position. There was a handsome reward in place for the demise of such people. Rhodri began to scheme but he found it odd that a city employee would be of the cursed people. Still, it suited him so the Eypharian put his diabolical wheels in motion as he casually made his way up to the door. Like a true gentleman, he would stand several feet behind and off to the side of the women until their conversation was done before inquiring about the tower and its history.

Azurite Meeting (Rhodri)

The ivory skinned lady didn’t make any sort of discernable expression as the Konti babbled on. After she was done talking and silence was between the pair again, she gave her a small smile, and said “Would you like to come in for tea?” She asked in the common tongue. Behind her the konti thought she could spot a small cat. Upon closer inspection it wasn’t a cat, but a spotted cheetah. As she was staring at the exotic pet the guardian of the watchtower spoke again “Your friend behind you is welcome to come in as well.” Startled, the Konti spun around to look behind her. Sure enough someone was there, and promptly she was shocked for a second time after seeing his appearance “Woah!” She let out before she could stop herself “What are you?” She asked, out of sheer curiosity. She knew nothing about men with six arms, she had never seen this in her life! This was totally strange. It did occur to her that her reaction was rude “Apologies, I have never seen a man with six arms before, uh...” She paused “Do... you want to come in with me?” She asked as a way to apologise for her rude behaviour. She felt a little more comfortable seeing that he knew how to give her space, plus the shock of his appearance was overpowering her general paranoia around the male species.

After giving him a chance to respond, she followed the albino into the watchtower. Inside was a little kitchen, dining table and living space. It was quite quaint and the furniture was quite inventive and beautiful. Her host told her to take a seat and so she pulled up a chair at the table and expected that the six armed man would follow suit. She was quiet, just staring at everything whilst the guardian busied herself in the kitchen and began to boil some water and look for tea leaves.

The Cheetah was looking at her curiously, and strangely enough the Konti thought she saw emotion in it’s expression that animals don’t usually show. It must be a very smart animal. She hadn’t exactly come across anything like it apart from in artworks and books. “Whats ye name?” The knot eventually asked the white lady when the silence got to much “You too...” She said brashly as she looked over at the man “I’m Marilyn.” She added to fill the silence. The lady smiled and said that her name was Ivory and that her cheetah was ‘Kimbri’. Then she asked if either of them liked sugar in their tea.

Now that she was here she was unsure of what to say first, so she looked over at the man for ideas before turning back to the woman again “How did you come to work here?” She asked her “I know nothing of this place I’m sure you ‘ave some good stories” Marilyn prompted, and waited patiently for answers. The Vantha seemed to want to finish her tea and sit down so Miralyn figured she was being rude again. She’d forgotten, almost, how non-sailors and civilised people conversed, apparently. Her mother would have scolded her.

Azurite Meeting (Rhodri)

Rhodri listened intensely to the conversation while doing his utter best to appear aloof and preoccupied. This wasn’t completely untrue since the Eypharian was contemplating the how, when and where to strike down the rogue keeper. His ears twitched as he was addressed by the ghastly woman. Both of the females were very much in need of some quality time in the sun. The exile speculated that neither would survive the heat and blaring rays of Eyktol; his homeland. The reaction of the other visitor was different but it wasn’t outside the realm of things the Eypharian had come to expect.

With a haughty air, an even tone and his chin raised so that his earthy stare was forced to look down the bridge of his perfect nose, Rhodri responded to the white woman. “I’m an Eypharian –descendants of the gods.” The word gods came with a free look of knowing that was passed towards the Vantha woman. He was not the most subtle and knew he had to work on the skill but he quickly looked away so as not to linger too long and give away his intentions. The desert brat turned back to face the Konti woman. “I will join you.” Everything he said sounded as if he was making some kind of declaration.

Join them, he did. The huge man ignored most of the banter but soaked in the environment. He studied the table, the flatware and serving cups. Most of all, he used sidelong glances to observe the cheetah in the room. He waved his hand to indicate that he didn’t want sugar then went back to assessing the inside of the watchtower. He didn’t know how they worked but that didn’t stop him from pretending to be nonchalant about sitting within the inner sanctum. Once he had been given his drink, he lifted it to his lips and took a sip. His face grimaced and then he set it down and aside. Of course, it was crap. That’s why she offered sugar in the first place. Rhodri was quickly bored with the introduction phase but he played along. He had an objective and force a farily charming smile but it was nothing like the toothy grins that Claire brought forth from the gold-skinned lummox. “Rhodri.”

The Eypharian was content to sit for now though it was difficult to find something to do with all six of his arms. He placed his lower set in his lap, his middle set along his hips and his upper set he left folded on top of the table. The man held his chin up, his shoulders back and maintained a very rigid spine but continued to plaster his face with a pleasant expression. “Yes, “ he cooed, “please tell us more about your station.”
