The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

She was a wealth of knowledge, and it was doubly infectious hearing such details from one who clearly loved the subject. Yeh Bugger was not her steed and never would be, but she cooed over him as if she'd been there when he was born. For his part, the horse snuffled and whinnied and tried to happily eat her hair whenever he got the chance.

Konrad shook his head and patted himself down for his pipe. Cheeky sod.

He looked up sharply when she mentioned having to put him down, because of a bad leg. He wouldn't enjoy that... though couldn't imagine grieving as fiercely as she knew a Drykas would. Horses for them were family, not pets or property or walking, shyking modes of transportation. The Striders were but the most extreme example of that mentality: Konrad had seen Drykas weep over horses they'd had to put down, yet remain stone-faced when it came to their own kin.

Weird bloody people. But they know how to ride.

"Huh. I will remember what you say."

He would, too. Horse shoes, cleaning and filing, checking legs and knees... these were all little details he needed to pay attention to. For if he didn't, then his purchase was all for nothing. He gave up searching for his pipe just as he grasped it, deciding that the light was being wasted, and the breeze he craved could only be found in movement.

"We came out here to ride," he said in his careful, simple Pavi, hoisting himself up back into the saddle and ignoring his old, creaking bones. "So we ride."

He kicked his heels into Bugger's flanks and let out a "yarr!" like he'd heard from the Drykas before. It was enough to shock the gelding into action, perhaps a little more sharply than intended. The horse went from shuffling to trotting to a gallop within ticks, and Konrad was bent over his mane like a man holding on to a runaway cart.

But the breeze was back. The rush. The pounding of hooves so deep and powerful it was like an addiction. Then the sound was joined, and Konrad peered over, one hand jerking up to stop his hat blowing off... and he dared a grin.

Didn't take her long to catch up.

ApologyI am so sorry Konrad! This fell down to the bottom of my page while I worked on grades. I kept what is coming open ended if you would like to decide what it is

The blonde stood up while popping her neck some. She was glad to see that the horse was in good condition. Chaser whinnied wanting to get moving almost as much as her companion for the day. Looking up at the sky, she tried to see if there was anything there they may need. The loud call behind her caused her to jerk around seeing him race off. Smirking, the girl was always up for a race against another horse. Quickly she mounted up and clicked her tongue against her teeth.

It did not take the stallion a chimes time to respond; he dashed forward feeling the joy and excitement in his rider’s body coursing through him. With the pair being part of the web, he easily caught up to the male rider and his mount. Jasmine laughed having a very fun time racing the outsider across the plains. The blonde noticed a strange stiffness in Hansel’s posture as he rode. Pulling back some the girl got close enough for the man to hear her without her having to shout at him.

“Don’t lean so far over your mount. If he suddenly stops you will fly over his head and get hurt. Keep your back straighter. It gives you more control and you will be able to see what is coming,” Jasmine stated.

Chaser snorted and stopped suddenly as if to prove the woman’s point. It stamped around for a moment before the woman pulled him the other way. Patting his side, she turned him back towards the direction their companions had continued in. The blonde allowed him to go around whatever was causing him so much distress. Shrugging it did not take long for them to once again catch up with Hansel and his mount.

“My point proven,” Jasmine said with a smile.

There was not much that bothered the girl when it came to riding her stallion. She was often not bothered by much in her everyday life. Of course, there as much going on within the city that could have the girl in a tizzy. But she just felt no need for tall the drama in her life. The girl had enough problem without worrying about what every other clan was saying or doing. Popping her neck, the girl worked on relaxing her nerves.

The near throw had caused the woman’s adrenaline to spike. Shaking out her arms, the girl tried to work out some of the extra energy that was not needed now. The group continued riding for a ways, Jasmine looked ahead of them and made the sign to slow down. It took her a moment to remember Hansel was not likely to know the sign, so she said it allowed. Taking the pause as a chance to look around, the woman stood up on Chaser’s back while the horse bowed his head and grazed some. Every hair on the back of her neck stood on end, she just knew something was wrong. But she was could not tell what it was.

“Something doesn’t feel right,” Jasmine stated quietly lowering her voice.

He really was listening. Be a fool not to, in point of fact. Every day he swung his legs over Yeh Bugger's back and he trotted and galloped and turned and bounced around on the sunny plains. Practice, practice, practice... he needed as much as he could get. But he always needed more, for he was among people that lived and breathed by the strength and stamina of their horses, and he was, well... a city boy.

He nodded as Jasmine gave him her advice, citing something he should have bloody well known in the first placed. No different than running headlong with your face stuck out: you stop too fast, your nose would know about it first. And painfully.

So, good advice. Smart advice. And he listened to it, rode along side her with the wind whipping at his arms, brushing through his hair as it swept under the brim of his hat... and then she slowed. Konrad watched her expression change as the Strider went from a gallop to a canter to still; as her hand went up, then her command spoken to follow it.

He knew what she'd say before she said it. He didn't know much about horses, but he'd been reading people's reactions since he could walk upright.

“Something doesn’t feel right.”

The walahk's expression hardened; all the emotion he'd let play across a face ill-crafted for laughter or enjoyment, just... leaked into the creases and scars, leaving that parched ruin behind. His eyes were like flints again; his lips were pressed into a hard, white line. He swept his gaze over the swaying grassland, tried to pin down what it was out there that had the Drykas so spooked, hand swooping low-

He cursed, low and savage, in a tongue the Drykas was unlikely to know. He'd left his bow behind. His sword clanked down on the saddle, hooked into the leather, instead of his belt, but anything more than ten feet away... there'd be a problem. Konrad's hand tightened into a fist for just a moment, then relaxed, went back to the reins.

Relax. Think. We're hardly lost, the city's right behind us. Anything goes bad, turn around and kick your heels.

There was no wind. That was just the speed they were galloping at. The air was still, swaying stalks stiff and still ahead of them... and Konrad still couldn't see anything. Hells, it might not even have been sight that Jasmine was using. Smell or hearing, some sort of Drykas wyrd, he had no idea. Konrad didn't know what she was relying on, but his hand went down again, and felt the comforting reassurance of his kopis hilt.

"What do you mean?"

No worries! It's all good, girl. I'm hardly one to talk after my hiatus! Finally got over a few things and decided to head back, gonna be catching up over the next few days.

The blond watched the world around them knowing something was causing Chaser to stall out. The stallion was not bothered by much so she knew there was some kind of creature out there stalking them. Most of the predators had learned how to move without disturbing the grass more than necessary. Spotting a cluster of rocks, she managed to get the stallion to head in that direction. Everything about the situation felt tense and the nerves was starting to bleed down to the horses. The strider stopped short again, confused the blond got down and tried to calm the animal. Chaser shorted loudly and jerked away from the area ahead of them. Looking forward, she got the horse to hold still and grabbed her bow and quiver off it. Strapping it into place on her hip, the girl took one out and notched it before going closer to the rocks. With a small amount of difficulty she managed to get on top of them without knocking her arrow out of place. Kneeling a top them, the girl watched the world around them.

“Something is out there. Both horses caught wind of something they don't like,” Jasmine said still looking out at the grass.

A movement in the distance caught her attention making her shift to face it head on. Squinting she tried to decide if it was a hunting companion or something much more dangerous. The unusual heat was making everything and everyone very irritable. Staying low, the girl watched as it moved closer slowly as if searching for something. Looking back at Konrad, she motioned for him to join her up on the rock. The blond was more than happy to get back to Endrykas if it was dangerous. A mouse ran over her hand causing the girl to jerk back some watching it roll over and scamper away. Slowly she looked back as the swaying had stopped again. Moving to stand straight the girl tried to find where the shape had went in such a hurry.

“An animal is hunting this area. Look small rodents are running from it,” Jasmine pointed out as another ran over the toe of her boot, “we need to go. Whatever this is has plenty of practice keeping the grass from moving.”
