Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Pulren watched as Syna woke over the Suvan from his balcony at Kuahala Estates. The last few days had given him a shot in the arm and really started to wake himself from his self induced slumber. Meeting Salara was a tonic in itself and then to find that his old friend Fallon had been in the City for some time and he was clueless...it was just too much to accept. Not one more day would he allow to sink before him. No more wasted days in bed. His body and mind had taken the brunt of his inaction. His muscles were all but nonexistent, his demeanor had become sullen and dull. He had decided that each day forward would be a blessing from the Gods and he would not waste them.

Once the Suvan really began to shine and sparkle with Syna's frolic, Pulren began to prepare for his day. Even with the blustery, cool winds coming in from the waterfall, he kept his attire light. His boots, a pair of linen pants and a green linen shirt were all he would wear, keeping himself light and unrestrained. He began stretching and jogging in place, warming his muscles up and moving them in anticipation of a day of work. Standing with his legs apart, he bent down at the waist and reached each foot, coming up and reaching up toward the sky. His arms rotated at the shoulder with some pops, knees and hips followed suit. Once his body felt warm and limber, he began to jog in place, paying attention to his breath before he began to jog out of the Estates and down toward the lower tiers of Riverfall.

He chose to leave his weapons behind, another deviation from his old routine. If a new way was to be formed, the old way had to die. He couldn't stay armed at all times, especially inside the city. He had to remain vulnerable, even among the great azure men of Riverfall, to show that as Kuvan, he trusted them as he hoped they would also trust him. Jogging out into the road before the estates, Pulren started to make his way along the thoroughfare, taking caution not to jostle anyone or bump into anyone. It was always busy and lively in the city, its very life infusing him with energy to seize the day.

As the various centers of learning and training passed him, his first stop was Wysar's Tower. Many Akalak were milling about at the foot of the silent citadel which housed that God of Perfection. Jogging in place before it, he knelt and slowed his breathing, saying a silent prayer to the resident Father of the Akalak. He then felt inspired to begin doing pushups there in the square before the tower. Each time he met the ground, he envisioned leaving a piece of the darkness in his heart there, being soaked into the ground. Each time he rose up, he equally envisioned the light of his spirit growing by the loss of the heavy burden of self doubt. Once his arms were sufficiently aflame, he rose and bowed once more to the tower before departing and continuing his journey through the City.

Love Yourself

Aglow with a fresh sheen of sweat, the cool Fall breezes felt especially pleasant as Pulren continued on his way along the streets of Riverfall. Melodies poured out into the street from the White Crane, a place that Pulren silently chided himself for not taking advantage of in his time of healing. Musicians could be heard playing and chatting among its halls, their sounds and ilk also in the housing that sat adjacent to the musician's hangout. Pulren looked down at his boots as they hit the tile, the cadence of his footfalls creating a natural rhythm for the melodies inside. Looking back up, he swiftly dodged a courier of some sort carrying packages before seeing the next tower of Riverfall.

While it wasn't a bastion of devotion as the rest, it seemed to hold an important place among the Akalak. As far as Pulren knew, it was some kind of hospital for expectant mothers. All the jewels and mizas in the known world couldn't take the place of a live Akalak birth to the Rivarians, so it was surely some kind of place to make sure that the births went well. He generally only ever saw Akalak and females of other races, in various stages of pregnancy, entering and exiting the building. A smile crossed the mercenary's features as he knew he would never be saddled with such a burden.

Turning the corner, another set of saddles came into view, these on the backs of those terrible horsebeasts. While Pulren knew that horses were a common thing in inland Mizahar, he had no love for the creatures. He respected them and cared for them as most animals, but being a son of ports, he had never been on the back of one. Pooping on the ground, bouncing on their back, the idea made him as ill as the magnificent roll of a bow might make to a horse rider. He had, in fact, made it through Endrykas, the revered land of horsedom, without so much as petting a horse. Give him a magnificent seahorse, instead. One day, he thought and hoped to himself, the Sea Father would bless him with the ability to live beneath the waves and he would ride his own magnificent steed.

The raucous activity of the Blue Bull came into sight and sound, Pulren paying attention to his own breathing as he jogged. He was in a good rhythm now and wanted to keep it going. The grand coliseum of Gideon rose on his left, a place that Pulren planned on visiting in order to test his mettle and study his martial art. There was also a fitness center nearby, a place that desperately needed to visit in order to repair the damage of a year of inaction. He hadn't gone completely soft and youth was still on his side, but he could not afford to be lax and allow his body to become ineffective. It was as important, if not more so, then oiling his leather armor or sharpening the tines of his trident.

The great bridge over the waterfall was looming and although Pulren was no longer traumatized, he still felt a twinge of discomfort as began to pass over it. Slowing his movement to a brisk walk, he approached the edge. Many people, even children, marveled at the impressive display of the spread of Riverfall. His gait continued to slow as he approached the edge, the misting spray from the falls cooling and refreshing him, though it dod not relax him. His heart continued to race, slightly increasing as his hands moved to the cool stone of the railing. Closing his eyes, he moved himself up to the edge.
