The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Winter bleeds into spring without much notice; after another year without Morwen's presence, the only thing to signal the arrival of spring is the flaring of the Watchtowers. After a dry, warm winter, the weather begins to heat up even more. Concerns are arising over the struggling amount of crops and the lack of rain; the rivers and lakes surrounding Lhavit are beginning to ebb, their levels falling. The waterfalls are noticeably beginning to falter. Despite that, the city and its residents try to keep their spirits up. Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal, and it brings with it a whisper of hope.

Festivals and parties are abound this season, with the most anticipated being that of the Star Festival, the annual celebration of Zintila's gift of skyglass. There will be music, dance, and performances abound, and wine will be abundant. The Alvina of the Stars herself is set to make an appearance, as she always does; the residents of Lhavit hope dearly for words of encouragement from their beloved Star Lady.

As the season progresses further without sign of rain, tensions and stress begin to run high. Some begin to conserve water as if it is a precious commodity, while others pretend that there is nothing wrong. The greenery and flowers that usually are within and around Lhavit in abundance are noticeably lesser this year, and what does grow is lacking in vibrancy and size, seemingly ready to crumble at any moment.

A meteor shower brings with it a burst of hope, but things in Lhavit begin to go awry when the party of Constellations sent to retrieve the skyglass seeds don't return on time.

Overview of Season Events

☼ Daytime Event - ☾ Nighttime Event
☆ Moderated/Prompted Event

1st: The Watchtowers flare signalling the arrival of spring and bringing about a new year. There is no one official festival, but parties break out all across the city for the next few days as people both equally celebrate and mourn the Valterrian.

12th: The Star's Shadow throws a party to celebrate its reopening; drinks are 25% off for the night, and there is live music and entertainment.

22nd: The Heart's Festival begins, lasting all day and all night, almost into dawn of the following day.

35th: With the weather showing no signs of cooling down, sheer fabrics become the newest, most fashionable material for clothing, often worn in flowing layers.

38th: Guzo has crafted a new blend of tea, which Atsuya advertises outside of the shop; he refuses to say exactly what's in it. Rose petals float in the deep pink tea, and it smells sweet and fruity. Upon sipping it, one is greeted with a sweet, floral taste and a very tart aftertaste. Anyone willing to try the new recipe receives 50% off of their order.

42nd: A Lethaefal reads a poem at the Basilika talking about his life; nobody is sure how true the events of the poem are, but it's beautiful in a deeply profound way that moves several people to tears. Despite many listeners trying in vain to track him down, he seems to have disappeared, and does not make an appearance at the Basilika again.

46th: The Alheas Crone makes a rare appearance in town, warning of misfortune to come; she is largely ignored.

52nd: A meteor shower begins and lasts for almost 48 bells. It is taken as a symbol of good fortune, and an impromptu festival is held to celebrate.

55th: A party consisting of a half-dozen members of the Constellations leave to retrieve the meteors or any fragments of them.

64th: A woman staggers through the streets; when approached by a Shinya to see if she is okay, she attacks him. After a brief scuffle, she suddenly turns her weapon on herself, killing herself.

70th: The Star Festival is held.

72nd: It's discovered that the woman who killed herself had previously tried drinking from the pond in Alheas Park, desperate for water. A Shinya is posted to guard the pond at all hours to stop anyone else from trying to drink from it.

75th: The Constellations are overdue to return; finally, they do, but they are severely injured and missing several members.

76th: A handful of performers passing through Lhavit put on a ribbon dancing show at the Sundial Circle.

80th: Nilen, head of the Akka section of the Constellations, organizes a search party to find the missing Constellations, whether dead or alive. Talora accompanies the party into the Unforgiving.

83rd: Tired of the drought, someone takes a booth at the Basilika to condemn Morwen, words that have been heard before. A heated debate begins to ensue when someone steps up to argue, tired of the hate that has been circulating since it seems to have had no effect thus far.

85th: A heavy fog settles over the city, bringing with it an atmosphere of unease; it shows no signs of letting up. It brings with it dampness and extreme cold; the wet atmosphere is a nice change, and sheer fabrics begin to fade out due to the sudden drop in temperature.

The Heart's Festival

Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal; the softly budding greenery and flowers brings with it hope and the promise of beginning anew. Especially after another harsh winter without the presence of Morwen, the Heart's Festival is being looked forward to in order to help usher in a better year.

The blooming of spring and the calls of newly born animals gracing the land has always been seen as somewhat romantic in Lhavitian culture, and so it is only natural that a festival was created to reflect this. The Heart's Festival is a chance to celebrate romantic love of all kinds, but also platonic and familial love.

While the festival itself takes place on the 22nd, preparation usually begings several days in advance. Ribbons and lanterns adorn most spaces for decorations, the colours white, yellow, and red prominently used. Sweets, baked goods, tea, and spiced wine are traditional foods served during the festival, and impromptu dances occur all over the city, some bigger than others. Proposals and marriages also commonly take place during the festival, resulting in a busy day for Cheva.

During the festival, it is traditional to give flowers to your loved ones. White flowers are given to family, yellow to friends, and red to the one whose heart you wish to (or have already) won. The flowers are often given in bouquets with different types meaning different things, but it's not uncommon for more elaborate wreaths to be given to those you wish to court. If a red bouquet is given and accepted, it is traditional for the couple to bind their left arms together with red ribbon for the remainder of the day.

As most festivals in Lhavit, the Heart's Festival reigns all day and all night. During the day it is cheerful and everyone participates, but at night it turns into a much more romantic and sensual festival. Large gatherings are forgone for intimate dinners instead, and couples often enjoy the nights together; it is not unusual to spot at least one couple who are a little bit too eager with each other in the streets.

Note: This will be a prompted event; I will make a thread that you are all free to post to, and will respond to it as appropriate. You are welcome to create your own threads with this event as well should you post to the thread and then wish to branch off either on your own or with other(s).

The Star Festival

The Star Festival, held on the 70th of spring every year, is one of the largest annual celebrations in Lhavit; it marks the day that Zintila bestowed the gift of being able to craft and mold skyglass, and thus allowing for the creation of Lhavit. For the duration of the festival, it is customary to dress finely and all in white with gold and silver accents. Even those without much money to their names often save up for or borrow fine clothing and jewelry.

Music, dancing, and various other sorts of performances occur throughout the streets for the duration of the day. People give thanks to Zintila, as well as Syna and Leth. The Constellations and resident Ethaefal often find themselves subject to more attention and affection than they usually are. At night, the Star Lady herself makes an appearance, and usually says a few words to the people of Lhavit.

Meteors and Missing Constellations

A meteor shower rains in the skies over Lhavit, starting in the morning of the 52nd and lasting almost 48 bells into the morning of the 54th; while not uncommon, the phenomenon is taken as a sign of good things to come, and impromptu festivities are held to celebrate. Once the shower ceases, a group consisting of a half-dozen Constellations leaves to collect what they can of the skyglass seeds on the 55th. They are expected to return within a few days, but twenty pass with no sign of them.

Finally, the Constellations return in the afternoon of the 75th, but something is obviously amiss; the party of six is half its size, and those that remain are worse for wear, bloodied and battered. They are rushed to the Catholicon, where Zintila meets with them after they have been given a few days to rest and heal. Whatever the Star Lady heard, it is clearly not good news. A few days later Nilen, the head of the Akka, calls for volunteers to accompany her and Talora into the unforgiving; the exact details are not given, but they are going in search of the missing members of the Constellations, whether they be found dead or alive. The party leaves Lhavit on the morning of the 80th.

Note: This is a moderated event; if you wish to sign up, please do so using the form in my office. Please note that there are limited spaces, so if you want to be apart of this, register quickly!

Weather Throughout the Season

The season is hot and dry. Water is becoming scarce, and without winter to help replenish them the water levels of the lakes and rivers of the Unforgiving are beginning to drop.

Lhavit is lucky enough to experience a frequent cool breeze due to its position on top of a mountain, but that is the only relief from the heat. There is no rain whatsoever throughout the season; it begins to show in the flora in and around the city, which is sparser than normal and much less vibrant. What does grow is incredibly dry.

The fog that rolls in on the 85th is a stark contrast to the rest of the season; it is damp and bone-chillingly cold. Condensation beads on skyglass structures and sheer fabrics are traded in for long, flowing scarves.
