Thorin slaved away behind his forge. He'd been up for days but he wasn't the only one. The man had tasked his slaves, his apprentices and even some hesitant family members into helping out with his ingenious plan. Hours upon hours of labor and there was nothing to show at this point but a pile of metal. The master smith didn't mind. He knew what was going to happen and when anyone asked him why he was so confident, he merely smiled and lifted his hammer for another blow.

Carts were filled with the fruits of such a feat and dragged out onto the frozen walkways and canals of Ravok. It was beautiful in the early morning sun but people had remained indoors to avoid the cold but also because it was so treacherous to get around. The blast had crippled the city in fear and doubt. Answers were slow and unsatisfying at this point even though the Black Sun, Ebonstryfe and City Guard had performed miracles to clear the rubble and move tossed debris so that -albeit frozen- Ravok was essentially back in order.

A young boy looked out his window at the commotion below and ran to get his mother. They watched as the motley crew of blackened smiths and workers sat on the edge of the icy planks and attached strange blocks with metal rails to their boots then tied them with leather cords. One by one, they rose and began to move about and fall. The child and his mother were fascinated and moved throughout the halls of their building drawing attention to the spectacle. It didn't take long before others made their way outside and over to the Valdinox crew to see, first-hand, exactly what was happening.

The wily smith would just smile and point to his servant who watched the carts. "1 gold a pair." New spread like wildfire through the city and people slowly made their way down to the edge of the Nitrozian Plaza to watch or join in the party. By lunchtime, several dozen people had managed to figure out the technique and were helping others 'skate', as they called it, along the ice. Thorin had come prepared and had made plenty for all who chose to participate.

The skates came in several sizes for various sized individuals. They consisted of three pieces of wood which made a bottom and two sides. A single metal rail with a slightly curved tip were attached on the center of the bottom and the leather cord was strung through a series of holes that one put is foot through. Once the wearer was situated in the wooden trough, he pulled the cord through each hole working up his leg until he could tie it off to hold the whole thing in place.

PlayersOpen to all, players must buy the skates in thread and then are free to use them as long as there is ice in Ravok which will be all season at this point. The Valdinox enterprise will follow this trend onto the Lakeshore several days after that incident as well. 1GM is the price. No stealing and no negotiating. Gaining 5XP in Ice Skating is a seasonal challenge.

A Winter Wonderland

Postby Evarista on May 3rd, 2018, 6:46 pm

It was strange how fast the city recovered. Evarista still couldn't get the image of the death ray falling from the sky from her mind, and everyone else still Maybe because most of them didn't see the ray itself, so they weren't as shaken. They didn't see the grotesque icy hand reaching from a hostile dimension to strike them, they only saw the bruise it left. Their nonchalance made sense, in a way - what you don't know can't keep you up at night.

Inhaling the chilly air, the pensive figure walked unhurriedly along the Noble district. She wore an "improvised" black coat reaching down to her ankles and lined with oddly glistening fur - her only solution, considering all the real warm clothes were claimed by her sisters. Ravok never saw this kind of weather, so no one actually kept winter clothes in their regular wardrobe. It was something only soldiers and travellers owned with any degree of consistency. So, when something like this happened, even first-dibs callers like the Big Five couldn't get a full supply right away.

If there was anything to be happy about, it was the fresh and cool air. Evarista thought felt fantastic, and actually began going on walks. It wasn't clear if Hwyn thought the same way, since he didn't have any warm clothes, but he'd have to get used to it. The first time Evarista went out without him, she got lost within chimes. The city was unrecognizable, and the scatterbrained heiress wasn't known for her sense of direction.

This time, when passing by the Nitrozian plaza, they noticed something unusual.

People were playing on the ice?

It was slightly disturbing to watch, but at the same time, Evarista found herself approach. She felt more comfortable close to her object of fear than far away from it.

A few smug-looking blacksmiths in the corner of the plaza were selling the toys. Evarista looked at the thin metal rail attached to the bottom of a skate distrustfully. How would you even stay upright on this? On a slippery surface, wouldn't you want as wide shoes as possible?Judging from all the people riding the metal rails around the plaza without too much trouble, that wasn't the case. Being a connoisseur of all things counter-intuitive, Evarista found her interest piqued.

Throwing the blacksmith assistant a couple of coins, she gestured Hwyn to help her put on a pair, and then grab a pair himself.

A Winter Wonderland

Winter, it had many faces but he found most of them to his liking, the cold wasn't something that he'd ever paid much heed, and with a nice pair of stockings and a little will power It was easy to ignore the cold. He had the stockings at least. Walking next to Eva he half walked half skipped just happy to be outside with her he ignored the somewhat dreary weather and reveled in his company.

His normally all black attire was cheerier, spiced with a pair of red stockings and hair that was tied back with a similarly bright ribbon. He wore a small smile on his face as the walked wich only widened when he saw Eva's destination for the day. It was the Ice, he'd heard about it from the other waitstaff but seeing it still impressed him, seeing Ravok's normally placid dark water replaces with a layer of white ice was surreal to say the least. The people running about on the ice was also interesting... Or... not running but sliding? He'd never seen anything like it but people were in fact selling the metal blades those on the ice were using.

Eva herself seemed to be equally perplexed and snapped up a pair for him and herself before motioning for him to set lace her up with a pair.

He did't know about doing this himself but he was willing to try if Eva was. Laving the boots up for Eva he erred to the side of caution and made sure that the laces were tight he didn't want her spraining an ankle on his account so he took his time. Once he was finished with her he st to himself and quickly had his own pair of bladed boots.

Though he quickly found that wearing them and standing up in them were two very different matters. Shakily coming to his feet he looked about and frowned, people were out on the ice and moving pretty competently he wondered if he'd be able to do that as well.

“Miss Eva, you s-sure about t-this?”

It was a redundant question of course once she decided to do something she did it. Whether he had an opinion on it or not. With that in mind he readied himself for whatever it was to come.
