Character Concept

Farris is a human male standing at approximately 6 foot and 3 inches. Coarse black hair covers his scalp and spills over the sides of his face. A well-maintained beard fills out his features, piercing gray eyes completing his expression. Well-mannered and clearly affable in seeming, Farris' benevolent appearance conceals a brooding, pensive egomaniac clearly bent on moving forward at the expense of any and all that are deemed disposable. A devout follower of the teachings of Sagallius, Farris values discretion and manipulation over nearly all else, with only the study and understanding of djed and the power it can harness being comparable. Determined to follow his study of djed to its very end, a highly inquisitive nature has taken hold within Farris. Often, his pursuit of knowledge comes to the neglect of self, whether it is denying himself sustenance until a set task is complete or denying himself friends or allies in preference to solitude. However, to the contrary, he also finds new stimuli and other, similar beings to be highly fascinating. Preferring to keep a distance until he believes he can trust, friends are often difficult for Farris to come by. Though those that do befriend the Reimancer would find him to be a staunch ally, both insightful and highly intelligent.

Farris, like his chosen God, Sagallius, is a mage. His faith as well as his prowess in the arcane, is attributed to his father, who initiated him in the discipline of Reimancy. Bitter at the world for the loss of his father, the man finds empathy and compassion to be foreign. Perhaps he fears another growing close, but he prefers to believe in his arrogance that most simply aren't worth his time. This in combination with his incessant pursuit of knowledge creates an aloofness in Farris' personality, and he often tends to keep his thoughts inward. Very careful with his expression, one might find Farris drifting off in the midst of a conversation with the mage.

Note: Farris has long, thin scars on each finger that extend from the middle segment of each finger all the way to each of his palms. These scars are born from the trauma of his Reimancy initiation and are rather sensitive to touch. Likely, they're also covered with gloves or obscured from sight. Farris also has numerous scars on his chest and shoulder blades, also byproducts of his initiation into Reimancy.

Character History

Life in Ravok wasn't, in truth, a bad thing. As a boy, Farris quite enjoyed his life as a citizen. Clearly, the world was to be thankful for Rhysol, who created a utopia for all that believed in His Glory. This was what the citizens of the city would have him believe. Quite the contrary, it seemed, to the education his father had provided him with. Always one to encourage free thinking, the man also held a font of knowledge to the boy's mind. Initiated into the discipline of Reimancy as a teenager, he was tutored in the privacy of his home, slow sessions had in order to hide such teachings from the watchful eyes of Rhysol's chosen. For years this tutelage would continue, leading even to the boy's initiation into Voiding, but alas, it was to end in tragedy. Weeks after Farris' 22nd birthday, his father's devotion was discovered. A citizen of Ravok worshiping another God? The blasphemous swine was quickly put to rest. Though Farris was a citizen and proclaimed ignorance of his father's blasphemy, he'd find his life to be quite ruined. Rather than allow himself to become a victim of fate, Farris sold off what belongings he couldn't take with him and left Rhysol's city for good.

Farris' travels were neither extensive nor enjoyable. He found life outside of Ravok to be rough and difficult, and found himself missing his home very quickly. But, not one to mope in his misfortunes, the Reimancer took his father's (and by extension - Sagallius') teachings to heart, and quickly adapted to his life alone. Farris found himself in Sunberth after several seasons, and has since attempted to make the best of his situation. Life, he supposes, could be worse, though he has every intention of making it suit his tastes in any way he can.

Heirloom: A beautifully bound book. The pages are (upon creation) mostly blank, to be used specifically by Farris in his pursuits in learning magic. There is, however, a page inscribed in lovely scarlet ink, a personal note from Farris' father to his teenaged (at the time) son wishing him a happy birthday.

Farris and Xypher met and were bonded in this thread on the 74th of Summer, 518.

Xypher is a Kirt, a dark-facer from the alien world of Fyrden. Xypher and Farris meet in a forced situation with a Kirt relative already on the world of Mizahar. The Familiar beseeches his bonded Master to seek out a mortal with whom Xypher could bond with and escape a death mark on the world of Fyrden. With the constant violence plaguing the tribes of the Fyrdenese on their own world, often familiars might seek asylum with a wizard. The bond is not one taken lightly. There must be a reason compelling both Familiar and Master to relinquish some of their privacy and the entirety of their independence to another. Farris looks to Xypher and sees all the potential that Asmid and Alastor shared. He looks to the future and has a firm belief that the Familiar will help his knowledge and expand his mind.

This is Xypher's 'normal' form. It is approximately ten inches long. Relatively quick on his feet, Xypher's granite-like skin can change in color and tone at will. Shapeshifters by nature, the Kirt's natural form can change as needed with size constraints, though will often remain the same due to convenience.

Xypher's sealed form is that of a medallion. It is much heavier than it looks, and Farris will not wear this around his neck under any circumstances. The sealed form is used often as a means of disguising the Fyrdenese from onlookers.


Personality

Xypher is a highly pompous individual with little remorse or cares for the wanton destruction he might cause. He thrives on conflict, finding weaknesses in the people he interacts with and intent on exploiting them to further his amusement. Xypher's situation on Fyrden and his subsequent freedom from it give him a sense of exhilaration, and he's far too thrilled with his now undetermined lifespan to risk it to idiocy. He's a highly manipulative individual, capable of seeming sweet and benevolent to those who haven't met him. He revels in the misery of those he deems unworthy of his affections and is both highly possessive and in the habit of picking favorites among those he comes to know. Xypher is eager to throw obstacles in Farris' way, but does not toe the line of turning obstacles into genuine threats that might end up in the deaths of both Familiar and bonded Master.
