Building Up

Late Morning

Housing plans were made immediately after her arrival in Syka. Abhi knew unless she could build the buildings she planned entirely on her own, it would take a while for it to be completed. She was free to work on what she could, but in the meantime she would “live” in the Guest Quarters. They were mostly for travelers and merchants, but new citizens also slept there while their homes were still under construction. She had gone to the Sawmill as soon as she could to order lumber. The whole order would take around a week, but when portions of lumber were prepared she would be able to begin taking it over to set up.

The first night was a strange but exciting experience. The hammock she slept in at first made her feel nervous, like it would swing so hard during the night she would flip over and fall into the sand. But they proved to be sturdy, even when she tried to see how far they would swing. She fell asleep looking at the stars, bright and twinkling above her, and woke up as the sun began to rise above the waters. Each night was a little easier to fall asleep, as Abhi began to get used to the heat and spent her days wandering Syka to understand its layout.

On the day Abhi was told to come back to the Sawmill for the lumber, she ended up overestimating herself. Randal, who would be helping her the most, wouldn't be able to start construction until the evening and so Abhi decided to get started on her own. She could at least take lumber over to the site. However, she still wasn’t quite used to how hot it could get. In the morning when she woke up and walked to the Sawmill, it was already fairly warm. She thought she could handle it, though, and picked up a couple planks to hold on each shoulder. Her Isur strength made that alone no problem, but she quickly realized the heat made it harder to travel distances carrying heavy lumber. She eventually had to put down the planks to take a break, sitting on the sandy beach and relaxing by the water.
