The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

A Vision of a Falling Star

21 Winter 520

Moritz did not often dream. Lying in his bed early on the morning of the 21st, he did.

It began simple enough, an Okomo out among a grassy field. Slowly yellow flowers began to bud. As he went to bite into one, a loud screech could be heard as if he had bitten an animal. And then more screeches, these of anger, from all the other flowers. Ripping up their roots the flowers began to swarm across the ground, still screeching as they converged on Moritz. Only then he found he was not in his Okomo body, but his human, as the flowers began to swarm up him. Biting as he had bitten the flower.

The flowers covered him and he found himself in darkness. Then suddenly he saw a light in the distance, as if he was in a cave and there was a far off light down the tunnel. After a moment the light grew, and Moritz found himself on a barren stretch of sandy beach. The waves crashing on the shore, but giving off no sound. The light in the distance was not the sun, but a light falling from the sky. And then another, and another, as they crashed one by one to land in the distance. Now upon the ground and without their light to show the beach, his vision faded and the beach slowly vanished.

Then Moritz felt something, a stirring. In a dream he could not reason, could not truly see... But now, he felt like he was awake, as if he was seeing something happen. He could not tell what was happening, but he knew this was not just a dream like before. As the light slowly expanded he once more found he could see before him.

Now Moritz found he was in a jungle. Trees, but not of the type he was used to. It was hot, oppressive, not something he was used to even with the lack of a winter in Lhavit. Tropical. A jungle.

As he stood among the trees he could see a woman, and knew her name for some reason. Morwen. No one told him, it came to him just the same as the vision of the woman. A fact on the air, told and trusted. It felt to Moritz more akin to someone telling him a story with detail, but being able to see a physical representation of the story. Somewhere where the realm of stories, dreams, and truth met, all mingled into one. He reached out for the woman, Morwen, but found she was at a distance unchanged by his attempt. He was just being retold the story, he was not there to do anything but listen and watch.

He could hear a voice telling the story, but it made no sound. Instead it bespoke wisdom, the tale to be told. The vision was sound, and the sound was vision. Both and neither.

Walking onward Morwen passed, going from the jungle into a gate. Magic. A magical gate among the jungle, a tropical forest of heat. Through that gate she left the jungle, left the world, and walked among another. Another world, another place. Moritz perspective followed as the tale unfolded, watching as she progressed.

Stepping onto another world Morwen was left in a place even hotter than before. Where before the place, the jungle, was hot and humid, this place was oppressively hot. Like walking into a furnace, where the heat even got into ones chest as they breathed. But still she plodded, ignoring the heat for she was searching for something. Walking further into the heat, the burden upon her which Moritz could see was great.

The tale is a sad one. Family. Missing family. Morwen was searching for family. Her missing grandson, lost, only rumors left of where he might be. One such rumor led her here, where wisdom said not to tread. But wisdom was overcome by urgency, and any hope of finding such lost family was worth the risk.

And then from among the hot world something.... Horrible... Emerged. In the haze of the heat unclear, the creature captured Morwen. Imprisons. Shackles. Binds. The captured Morwen is taken away by the creature, back to his fortress. A throne in the fortress, on the hot imposing world. Morwen is bound to the throne, captured. And then her icy presence, her power, is drained from her and exploited.

Using its power the creature draws out Morwens abilities of ice and cool, and thrusts it upon the heat of his realm. Tempering, stabilizing, the hot molten realm that was the creatures. Like a pig being bled by a single nick, slowly her power is wrung out, slowly but steadily she is weakened. Slowly she is dying, her powers stolen and used by another till... Till... Till a death to come if nothing changes.

Winter on Mizahar gone, as Morwen was absent from the world and unable to bring force her abilities. Winter after winter missed, as Morwen remained as she was, chained and bound, drained of her essence until she was left weak. On the boundary of death, till she had nothing left to give up.

Morwen was dying. Morwen is dying. Morwen will die, unless something was done. The thought, the tale, rung in his mind, urgent. Pressing. Needing to be addressed.

Backward Moritz passed, finding himself on his home world but in an unknown place. A magic gate among a jungle, but where in the jungle or which jungle was unclear.

Like a clock needing to be rewound, like a spilled cup with but a drop of water left, Morwens time draws near. Her end, draws near.

With a jerk, covered in sweat and panting, Moritz found himself awake in his own bed. The vision passed. The room about him familiar. But the urgency... The urgency still true.

Moritz did not often dream. But this was no normal dream, he could tell that. This was a true vision of what had come to pass, and what could come to pass if nothing was done.

The pass was unclear, what he should do, what should be done. But the outcomes were crystal clear even if the route to one or the other was not.

Either Morwen would continue to be leeched of her strength, until she would die. At which time she would stop being a Goddess of winter, and another would take her place.

Or... Or... The gate could be found, passed through. Morwen could be found, freed, and rescued. Returned home. And she would return to her place as the figure of winter on Mizahar.

And the time was short... Which Moritz knew... If nothing was done, or it was not done quickly, the choice would be made and the first option would come to pass.

A Vision of a Falling Star

Postby Moritz Craven on January 4th, 2021, 11:27 pm

Rising from his bed, Moritz took a few moments to catch his breath. Calming his body and mind. The sudden vision had been unsettling, but being rash was not the best thing to do. He knew this, though admittedly even his demeanor was cracked by such. His normally cool and calm facade was shattered like a window with an Okomo charging through it.

Smiling at the analogy in his head, Moritz shook his head and then took a few more breaths. Forcing them in and out slowly, until he felt himself slowing. Calming. Reasoning. Kyra and many others had told him the merits of meditation before, but never had he felt it so well as he did now.

Rising from his bed and beginning to pace about Moritz muttered under his breath as he thought out the events of the vision and what he should do. Reasoning. Logic. That was the way of things, the way he knew he should take.

"So Morwen... She's the Goddess of winter apparently. Have I heard of her before? Don't think I have... Of course I've never lived through winter before, since apparently she's been gone since before I was born..."

Shaking off the lost thought pattern Moritz forced himself back into a more logical order of things, taking the tale apart to catch each detail while it was still fresh in his mind. If he wanted to dig into the tale and retell it if needed he needed to understand it. Which meant pulling the tale apart and examining it minutely.

"So she went into a jungle... A... Hot forest place? She was looking for her grandson. Or... Following rumors of her grandson... Wait Morwen had a grandson? Has one? That she lost? Gods have babies? Or wait grandson. That would mean she had a kid as well, and that kid had a kid who would be her grandson. Wonder who those are... Wait would a gods child be a god as well? How would that work?"

Considering each angle Mortiz continued on, trying to make sure he did not miss anything.

"So she went into the jungle, through a magic gateway, which passed her to another world. A hot molten world. Seems a pretty bad place for a Goddess of winter... And then she was captured by... What was that thing? Some monster or something. The ruler of the place? I mean it had a fort. Or no... Fortress? Not sure the difference there. Size maybe? Anyways..."

"The thing that captured her chained her to its... Uh... Seat? No... Throne... And was squeezing out her power to use to cool his world. Its world? Not sure what gender the thing was. But that can't be good for her, having her powers continually squeezed out for years on end. She's growing weak. Dying."

The options given to the stories end both seemed difficult to understand. He could do nothing. If he did that eventually Morwen would die. And then... A new divine being of winter would take her place? How did that work? If she was meant to die... But was she meant to die? And what about her grandson? He was missing, and she had been on a mission to follow a possible lead to find him. So... If she died, who would search for him?

The tales second option seemed even more difficult and unlikely. And it required action, rather than inaction. Someone would need to find the jungle where Morwen had vanished, find the gateway within, follow Morwen through it to the world she had become lost on... And then find her on the world. Which probably meant fighting off the creature that took her, possibly killing it, in order to free her and take her back home.

But also another thing. Why was the monster, creature, whatever, using her power?

"Is he perhaps in the right? Or trying to do good? If a bad thing is needed to do something good... Does that make it good? Maybe he had a reason for what he is doing. His world is harsh. Hot. He is using her to cool his world... Its not clear I guess. Maybe he is doing bad to do good. I guess the only way to find out is to go there. But how would I do that?"

A Vision of a Falling Star

Postby Moritz Craven on January 4th, 2021, 11:53 pm

Letting out a long sigh Moritz finished his thinking.

"So either I do nothing, and she dies. And I never learn what happened or why. Who is good or who is bad. And a goddess dies. Or... Or I find a way to follow after her, to save her. I suppose doing nothing isn't the solution. But first things first... I need more information."

It was still early in the morning, but Moritz knew he needed help. Information. Wisdom. He needed to tell someone else, someone else besides his sentient house who had likely overheard everything he had said, and get some help. He needed an adult. A reasoning, logical, adult.

The only place that came to mind then was Kyra, and his school. But at that hour he did not want to bother Kyra, and it was still early for school. Of course he could just go out early and get to school before it started, perhaps wander about a bit to unwind and then ask a teacher before class started.

Changing out of his clothing which was wet from his night sweating, Moritz headed out from his room. Down the stairs. Out of the house, giving the building a wave goodbye as he did.

The early morning sky was dark, only the moon and bits of glittering stars lighting it. The sun had not yet risen, but soon enough would. Already the stars seemed to darken and shift as he walked. Or no, Moritz thought as he looked up and walked away from his house. One was bright. Canting his head Moritz stared at it, finding it odd.

And then he saw why, it was visibly moving. Something he could not recall seeing a star do before. And it was also... Getting bigger? Brighter and bigger?

Tensing Moritz realized it was not a star, but something falling. A falling star then, like was collected and made by Zintilla worshipers into Skyglass? As he looked closely he realized it was not the whole light, but a part of it, and since that part or fragment or whatever was growing closer it was appearing bigger and brighter.

He had not seen such an event before, not that he could recall, but felt the odds of it happening just after his dream or vision or whatever were not likely. Of course perhaps that was his own bias, him seeing anything happening on that day as related to the vision.

Taking a few steps forward Moritz planted his feet and then tried to track which way the falling thing was going. It seemed so close he could reach out and grab it, but he could tell it was still far off and high. Then a thought occurred to him. He was an Iraso. Could he follow the objects path? Would it even have one?

Concentrating on the falling spot of light in the sky Moritz tried to awaken his Iraso abilities. Taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly, in and out, his first step in his meditative routine. Then he focused on one thing, this time being the falling star rather than emptiness or something else. Just the one thing, the falling star. Nothing else existed. Just the star, himself, and his breathing.

Focusing deep within himself, the core of his being deep within his gut, he focused on his power. His energy, compressed and tame. Asleep. Then he willed it to awaken, pushed and prodded and guided it, and urged it to surge upward. Visualizing it moving upward out of his core and into his head. Along into his eyes, where the djed would empower his Iraso ability and awaken his ability to Pathfind.

For a moment nothing happened, and then his vision was overlay-ed by his Iraso sight blooming into life. And there lay the falling object, suddenly alight in his vision in a way it had not been before.

A Vision of a Falling Star

Postby Moritz Craven on January 5th, 2021, 1:13 am

Staring at the object, Moritz tried to concentrate. To see the lines of travel stretching out behind it. And then he stared some more, watching as it suddenly began to streak down out of the sky.

It was around then Moritz realized he could not see the objects path. The most likely reason of course was his own skill, or namely lack thereof. Perhaps the object had a small trail, Aja had noted humans were easier to track for this reason. Perhaps it was too far away, after all just because he could see something did not mean he could make out fine details.

Whatever the reason as he could see the object streaking down from the sky he could see it land in the distance but did not see any trail through the sky or such.

Turning around, just to make sure it was not something related to his use of the magic in general, he checked himself. There it was, spotty but there. A line traveling back inside the house and likely back up to his room. His own Pathway. So not his use of the magic in general then. More likely, Mortitz reasoned, it was one of the other two reasons. It was too far away, or he was not skilled enough. Or perhaps some combination of the two.

Regardless he had been watching the thing fall from the sky closely, and so knew in general which way to go. His pack on his back as usual in his human form, he could stow his gear and shift into Okomo form if needed. Or continue on in his human form if it landed somewhere more easily accessed. Whatever the method he was ready, and stepped of in search of the falling object in the distance.

One arm up he sighted down it, getting his bearing in his current position and comparing it to the direction he needed to go to track after it. It was something he had seen someone else do, and so felt it was a good enough tactic for himself to try. And if nothing else it did not hurt his search.

Making sure to keep himself oriented such that he knew which direction he was heading in general, Mortiz moved along with his gaze sweeping the ground. If something had fallen from the sky he did not expect it to be hard to find. It had after all been a glowing thing streaking down out of the sky. Such things would surely be easy to see if one got close enough, or so Moritz reasoned. And so he was more worried about covering ground and keeping in the right general direction than going in the exact direction the thing had fallen in.

At first he was on the grounds of the manor, but soon he left these and was onto the wider lands of Lhavit and its environs. At that point things were trickier. There were many open spots among the mountain, but there were also many inhabited spots. He could only hope that the falling thing had not landed on someones house or business or something. He was fairly certain if that happened it would belong to them seeing as they owned the land.

Of course he also did not think the thing, whatever it had been, had fallen too far. And so he kept at his pace, moving in the general direction needed, more focused on a wide sweep of his gaze and a general direction than anything else.

A Vision of a Falling Star

Postby Moritz Craven on January 5th, 2021, 3:24 am

Moritz kept at his pace for a few chimes, heading in the same direction, before he was forced to change direction. The manor was a bit off on its own, but there was other lands and buildings and homes around it. And along with that some of the land was not conducive to human feet walking on it.

As he was not able to track the falling thing by its trail he stopped focusing on his Iraso sight, and let it sink back into his normal vision. At his skill though turning it both off and on was an effort, which meant he had to focus on turning it off and make an effort to do so. Clearly his mind he inverted his earlier actions, picturing the surge of flow into his eyes receding and cutting off till it dwindled down to the normal flow it usually had. He continued this while focusing on willing his djed back down inside himself, back into his core, and finally capping it off so that only the usual bits moved in and out. As he did his Iraso vision faded away slowly, the objects around him losing their luster so to speak. Though being on a mountain without many living things or people around it was not too strong around him, though it would make anything stronger appear out... If he could actually detect the far off fallen thing, which he could not Mortiz found.

He could of course change into his Okomo form, but Moritz did not want to do so just yet. Instead he got his bearings once more and checked his direction, and then measured off his steps off that path. Then once he passed the obstruction he moved back the same amount in the opposite direction while keeping his same bearing.

He was no master of navigating by land, but he felt these simple attempts were something even he could manage and that made logical sense when combined with reasoning and things he had witness others do before who knew more about such things.

It was more difficult when changing elevation to keep his bearings, but with the ground sloping but staying overall consistent it was not too hard.

It was not long before he finally came upon the light, as the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. A glow steady off an object, not close enough for Mortiz to see. As Moritz crept up on the spot he thought at first he had found a farm, until he saw some remnants of petals and flowers and realized it had been some kind of makeshift small scale flower garden. The thing landing among it in the dirt had sent up a small spray of the substance, leaving bits of dust and dirt and petals surrounding it. Still though, Moritz reminded himself, better than if it had crashed down on someones home or business or in the middle of a thoroughfare.

Letting out a sigh at having found the object, so soon after his search began, he finally moved right up to the small depression in the ground where the object had landed and found... Something confusing.

At first he thought it was some odd glass sculpture, having fallen on the ground. But after a moment he got an inkling that wasn't right. An odd glass shape. Found after something fell from the sky...

It did not make sense, since by his understanding things fell from the sky and were turned into skyglass. But he of all people would know it when it was seen. And this... This appeared to be skyglass that had fallen from the sky. Already formed skyglass which by what he had been told before should not be possible.

The object was small, small enough he could hold it in his hands, but oddly shaped. Perhaps a prank? But no, no one in Lhavit that could make skyglass or whom owned it would waste it on a joke... So if it was actually skyglass.

Moving up to it Moritz pressed a boot down on the object, It did not budge. He pressed harder, and though the dirt shifted a bit nothing happened. Finally he reached down and held his hands near if, checking to make sure it was safe to touch. Not feeling the air about it as overly hot or cold Moritz finally picked it up. Felt like skyglass.

Finally he tested it again by moved over to a bit of stone roadway, and throwing the object downward at it as hard as he could. Rather than breaking it skittered and bounced away, forcing Moritz to chase after it. Admittedly he wasn't the strongest armed fellow about, but Moritz was fairly certain that had it been made of glass it would have broken. And there was also the glow, fading now as the suns light spread, but it had been more clear when he first arrived.

He had therefore found something unique, or something he had never heard of. Fully formed skyglass having fallen from the sky. It glowed, similar in some ways to his own horns in his Okomo form, though this seemed brighter in some ways.

Once more wondering if finding the object was at all related to his dream or vision, Moritz silently tucked the object into his pack and headed off.
