A Test of Might

3rd Day of Winter, 520 A.V

The time was nigh. Sevris awoke bright and early. His eyes were filled with an uneasey look. Walking around his room was one of the manor slaves. They were quite infamous in the markets, because they were treated much differently than the other Ravokian slaves. She noticed that Sevris had awoken. "Master Sevris. I have a message from your grandfather."

This prompted Sevris to sit upright immediately. For him to continue his progress into the higher ranks of Ebonstryfe, he would have to to learn powerful magic. In his days as a Paladin he had not found the right teacher. But had since regained the right to learn again.

Lazerin himself had said he would be sent for eventually. He was to await the day he was to further his training. Becoming a Mage was no simple task, they were coveted and feared for good reason. The type of strength that comes with being a Mage can be traumatic. The horrors of Overgiving.

"Excellent. What did he say?" Sevris replied, he kicked his feet off the bed and made his way to his dresser. Where his armor had been laid out for him already. As he began to get dressed, she answered him.

"You are to meet him in the Institute of Higher Learning. For a private lesson. That was all." The Soldier nodded, and dismissed her with a wave of his hand. Putting the finishing touches on. He was also eager to push the reaches of his strength. Magic was the door to another world where his power could be pushed ten-fold. Who better to teach it to him then one of the most powerful Reimancers in the city.

A Test of Might

It took about two chimes, to make his way from his ancestral manor all the way to the Institute oi Higher Learning. Walking into the building, he was quite familiar with place, however he had not been an actual student. Apparently, his studies would have to cover a wide array of magic. Duties as a Paladin spread over a wide range of skills he needed to master. There were enemies who would be just as gifted.

The Syliran Knights were known to powerful in that area as well. Sevris walked through the crowd gathered in the hallways. The mornings first class were soon to be underway. The young Lazarin knew which room he was to be expected in. He had used them before when he was plotting with his Uncle Thadeus.

Opening the door, Sevris came upon a large private training room. The door closed around him as he marveled at the size of the room. It was different from the one he had seen. But that was not what immediately caught his attention. Standing in the center of the room was a behemoth of a man. Dressed in crimson robes, he was unmistakable. The Chief Interrogator Lazerin was there.

Extremely intimidating, standing at a tall seven feet, he towered over most people wthin the city. His eyes were pure white and they radiated a type of power he had only felt since the last time he met with Rhysol. This was the power of the Chaon. Turning what once was a human, into a Druvin. Sevris had a long way to go before he would be blessed with such an honor.

"Master Lazerin." Sevris said bowing first before walking forward to stand in front of him.

Lazerin said nothing at first. His white eyes seemed to be seizing Sevris up, but it was impossible to tell. After a few moments he spoke, "How did you manage to defeat Ansel and his Paladins?"

The question caught Sevris off guard. He hadn't spoken to anyone about the situation except with Thadeus. Of course Lazerin would know as Sevris was secretly fighting for him. "I lured them into a trap. And we ambushed them in the forest. They were skilled but we prevailed." The Marshal was indeed an accomplished warrior during their bout. If not for the subterfuge, they would have perished.

A Test of Might

The giant Druvin listened to Sevris as he explained his secret mission. The Soldier had taken part in a high stakes mission and they all came out alive. Perhaps that had gotten their attention, but it didn't mean they were impressed. Failure was simply not expected. "He was an exceptional Mage Hunter. Trained to combat Mages of all caliber, while capturing them alive. You were lucky to have survived an encounter with him. Perhaps you may have the discipline to begin your initiation."

Sevris had been waiting for this, to learn from Lazerin. It would surely help him spread his knowledge of a deep and dangerous well of power. Lazerin happened to be one of the highly skilled Reimancers in Ebonstryfe. His crimson robes were of the highest quality of silk, they seemed to bend around his giant body. The Chief took a step forward and was a few meters away from Sevris.

"I have been exposed to Reimancy initiation before but not completely. By the great mage Clyde Sullins."

"Then you know what must happen next. Brace yourself." Lazerin answered him immediately. Sevris did not have his helmet, which gave him some awareness too the manipulation of Res. He had encountered it many times in his battles and the helmet saved him more times than naught. Though he was without it this time, he had to experience this in its rawest forms.

Such was the process. There was a slight pause, as Sevris did as he was told. His training with Clyde prepared him for this inadvertently. The Master brandished a dagger out of his, and handed it too Sevris. He would do the honors, he used the small blade to make a small cut on his palm.

He grimaced at the wound opening, and it began to bleed. Sevris then kneeled while holding the wounded hand outstretched. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. He was ready.

A Test of Might

"Reimancy as you know, can be devastating if wielded correctly. But it also becomes a double-edge sword if you underestimate its power to destroy you." The Druvin began to teach his grandson as his own Res began to emit from his outstretched hand. All Sevris could do was still himself for the invasion to happen. When he experienced this terrible sensation before, he had been caught unawares.

He knew what type of painful process to expect. As this final free thought went through his head. That was when Lazerin willed an even larger amount of Res from his hands, turning it into a gas like substance. Invisible to the naked eye, Sevris would feel it before he saw it anyways.

A powerful rush of Djed began to pour into open wound on his hands. Before he could even feel the discomfort of that, the rest of the Res filled in the rest of the open holes in his head. An invasion of his body, it was inredibly painful, excruciating. There was no bracing for the pain.

The Druvins Res was too strong, it dominated his senses. His only solace was the familiar power of the Chaon that resonated on his shoulder. Even when he was going through great turmoil. He relied on the power of the Chaon to remind him of what true pain was. This was nothing. Though Sevris would suffer for a few mintues, grunting but not screaming in pain. Simply surviving Lazerin's invasion of his body.

A Test of Might

His Grandfather perceived the boys restraint in succumbing to the pain. The Druvin knew like himself, initiation was never pleasant. Possibly the most dangerous magic to take on. Sevris clutched his chest leg, it was the only thing he could do that braced himself. After what seemed like an eternity to the Soldier, but was several minutes. The pressure from the powerful Res began to lessen.

His vision was blurred with tears and the after effects. Coughing loudly, he was able to start breathing again. Sevris remained on the ground as he was taking time to gain his bearings. It felt like one of the worst experiences he had ever experienced, but it was one of them. The young Lazarin had undergone the Crucible and had received a Mark from the God of Evil himself.

There was no greater pain. To be returned with blissful euphoria. The Mark had saved him from such pain before, it could help him know. He relied on that notion and brought himself to look upwards at his Grandfather.

"Still alive. Stand up." The behemoth of a man ordered. Sevris followed his orders and began to stand. Feeling nauseous and a hint of something else. A burning feeling that seemed too intense to ignore. "You've passed your initiation. Within time you will be able to study this magic you've obtained. I know you can feel the Res, focus on it."

He gestured towards Sevris's hand. The palm still cut open. Sevris was indeed feeling something melding within him, this was Lazerins powerful Res. It was different from Clydes invasion. He focused on his own body, feeling a connection finally to his Djed.

Unsure how to emit the Res as he had seen so many other mages do, but he had a general idea now. Holding his hand out he tried to focus this Res to come out of the palm of his hand.
