Morwen's Torch Part 1: The Tragedy (Adalia and Sitkanis)

Spring 30, 511

Danyella plunged the glowing red hammer into the waterbarrel. It hissed as steam burst into the air. She pulled it out and hung it up on the cooling tongs. She wiped the sweat from her brow, took off her gloves, and admired the hammer. She was proud, she put four hours into the hammer, and felt that it was her finest one to date. She picked it up and felt it's heavy weight balanced in her fingertips. She gave it a few practice swings, loving how it felt right. But she knew this hammer wouldn't be hers, it was made for a customer. She would make herself a proper maul one day.

She walked out front to where her dad was polishing a couple of blades. She wrapped up the hammer in cloth. "Who ordered this Dah?"
"Vance over at Coolwater, works on the docks." She turned to make the delivery, "Oh, one more thing Dany, a trade Icerunner is coming in today from Denval. I have some ores coming in on it. Would you wait on it to arrive and pick it up?"
"Sure thing Dah."

She left the store and saw that the weather was fierce. A traderunner is coming in this weather? She tightened her jacket and moved against the wind and piercing snow. She trudged in the snow toward Coolwater, shaking her head. She hated giving away her favorite pieces of craft, but it paid for her to practice.

She arrived in Coolwater, and walked down to the docks. She found the man, he was working with some crates, and she strode over to him. They exchanged money and hammer, then she asked, while looking out at the ice covered by a near blizzard, "Is the traderunner coming in this storm? Seems a bit heavy for travel." The man chuckled at her, "If you knew that new captain, you would know that he never misses his deadline. No matter what." She sat down on an empty barrel, and looked out at the vast expanse of white. She noticed that some of the ice nearer the docks appeared thinner and in some spots was actually water. She had a bad feeling in her gut but shook it off. This captain was a professional, what could possibly go wrong?
