Rhaeol Basic Information Race: Mixed Blood (Snowsong Vantha mother, Sapphire Drykas father) Birthday & Age: 89 of Winter, 489 AV ~ 21 years old Gender: Male Physical Description Rhaeol is about 6'3". His height is one of his few traits receive from his father. As a result he tends to stand out in crowds of Vantha.He has an athletic build, and weighs around 200 pounds. He has medium length black hair with a few cerulean highlights. He has one braid on the left side of his head that with sapphires braided into it. When in a neutral state of emotions (which rarely occurs), Rhaeol has deep blue eyes. He has olive skin and features that are slightly harder than the average Vantha. Eye Colors: Normal, Calm Curious, Intrigued Confused Angry Frustrated Satisfied, Confident Embarassed Giddy Mischievous, Impish Character Concept Personality: Rhaeol is a blunt, expressive, passionate, eccentric, extrovert. He always says what he thinks, and doesn't always consider his words repercussions until after they have escaped his mouth. He loves to talk with people and hear about their lives. He is a natural storyteller and sometimes takes on a storytelling tone when speaking in an everyday setting. His blunt honesty, while ultimately a benificial trait, often gets him into trouble. He strives to learn everything he can about the Vantha, feeling that he needs to make up for his mixed blood by having an innate understanding of the culture he was born into. Despite his extroversion, Rhaeol tries to find times of solitude to simply deal with his own thoughts. He has many doubts about his worth despite his acceptance by the majority of the Vantha population. He sometimes feels like he is cursed with bad luck having lost both his parents and being despised by a number of his relatives for it. Because of his desire to meet and learn about people, Rhaeol has a tendency to overwhelm others with his simple curiousity. He is extremely open and tries to understand people at a deeper level which often times scares them off. Ethics - Rhaeol holds honesty and truth in the highest regard. While he has nothing against a little mischief, he abhors outrightlying. He has a strong moral conscience when it comes to areas of killing, abuse of power, and other areas that generally have a clear moral right and wrong. He finds himself caught in a grey area when it comes to many other ethical issues, however, as he sees the merit on both sides. Likes - People, Culture, Snow, Stories, Honesty, Sapphires, Books, Learning, Creativity, Open Minds, Dignity Dislikes - Prejudice, Lies, Heights, Spiders, Politics (in any group of people, not just government) Character History Pre-Creation: Rhaeol's father (Vhen Grasswhisper) arrived in Avanthal on the verge of death, delusional, and unable to remember who he was and how he managed to make his way north. Rhaeol's grandparents (of the Snowsong Hold) took it upon themselves to nurse him back to health. He recovered quickly, but was still unable to remember his past (it was clear that he was a Sapphire Drykas, however, due to his windmarks and the sapphire beads braided into his hair.) He gained much prestige among the Vantha (despite his difficulty with the cold weather) and quickly learned their ways. He and his rescuers daughter, Raiya fell and love, and her parents consented for them to be wed. Raiya died in childbirth, however, and Vhen quickly spiraled into depression, eventually taking his life. Rhaeol's grandparents raised him as if he were their own. They gave him a few of the sapphire beads from Vhen's braids that they had taken, feeling it was important he had something to know his father by. He quickly proved to be more oriented towards the Vantha side, however, he retained his father's height as well as hints of his features. He was resented by several of the family who believed the marriage should never have happened, particularily Raiya's brother Avern who considers Rhaeol responsible for his sisters death. They were unable, however, to ignore the fact that his passionate and blunt Drykas personality combined with the Vani language and natural Vantha dramatic air, had created a exceptional storyteller. Rhaeol quickly began to absorb stories from everywhere, and developed a huge repetoire to draw on as well as improvise upon. He found joy in storytelling that he found in few other places.They may not have been able to ignore it, but they could certainly resent him for it. Besides these relatives, however, his storytelling abiltiy drew him closer to his grandparents as well as increasing his acceptance with the Vantha as a whole. As he continued to grow older and into the customs of the Vantha, Rhaeol began to notice a tugging in his mind towards the south, this tug developed as his connection with the Vantha developed, becoming more and more insistent, striving for his attention. Shortly after turning 17, he came to realize that this tug was a connection to his secondary homeland and began to study everything he could get his hands on about the Drykas. He also began to toy with the idea of venturing south to the sea of Grass to discover his roots.
