Hello everyone!
I'm brand new here, so please bear with me while I make a fool of myself making many mistakes. I used to RP several years ago and really enjoyed it; unfortunately my life became very hectic and complicated and I had to limit my internet procrastination techniques. My life has calmed down a bit and I've decided to return to RPing. All the old sites that I used to visit have long left my memory and I found myself last night with a desire but no outlet.
I put to use my extensive google skills (search words: fantasy roleplay forums)and within about 3 links I found myself here, completely entranced by your neato world.
I'm going to be perfectly honest with you right now. I'm not that great of a writer; I've never taken any university courses in literature or writing, my closest experience to learning grammar was reading "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" and I failed English class when I was in high school. In my own defense, I think I've come a long way. I'm finishing up my PhD in physics and I do have to do a fair amount of writing, albeit scientific writing, which I'd like to think has given me some basic proficiency. Hopefully you'll accept me and my remedial skills.
With that being said and done, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Lauren and I'm still less than thirty years old (but not for long O.o). I have a very dorky sense of humour that I sometimes cannot control. I'm also Canadian and put 'U's in my words and like to switch 'er's to 're's despite the fact that I get squiggly little red lines under lots of my words.
Right now I'm working on creating a character named Tarama. Mizahar looks like it has a lot of great races but after reading through the detailed descriptions of the races I was continually drawn toward the Eypharian. I've already figured out a basic personality for her, I'm just trying to settle down on her personal history, occupation, etc.
I do have a couple of quick questions for you all.
Must the Eypharians live in Ahnatep (or Eyktol)? Or would it be ok to have them living in one of the multicultural cities? I'd like to think so and the rules seem suggest so, but judging from the descriptions of the race I was getting the feeling that it would be unlikely.
The Eypharian language section mentioned a specific VSO grammar. I'm not actually that fantastic at switching grammar. Is it essential that I start with this grammar style? Would it be okay if learned it as I progressed? Like I had mentioned earlier I have very little formal understanding of grammar. The way I write is mainly colloquial and I probably wouldn't know the difference between a verb and a subject if I were in bed with them (unless it was a really good verb...).
Are there many other PC Eypharians? Would Tarama have people to play with?
Is there already a vocabulary set up for them? For example, we as humans have a left and a right hand. Do Eypharians have a bottom left hand? A lower left hand? A southern left hand?
While I haven't decided if I want Tarama to be a noble of any kind, I was wondering what the limitations were on nobility for a starting character. I know it's inherited through bloodline but can a new member just create someone who has influence over a city? Or would Tarama have to work towards that title through her posts?
Anyway, I think that's enough questions for my first post on the forum. I actually have a lot more but I'm going to try and find some answers out myself. I just wanted to create an account and say hello before I go out shopping this afternoon.
I can't wait to get to know you all and all of your characters.
that was a very nice-and frank-introduction.
