Inhale. Form a seal around the edge of the pipe. Exhale slowly and evenly, making sure that the air distributes evenly within the glass on the other end. The motion was burnt into Fenilen’s muscle memory. He performed it with little in the way of active thought, for it was something that he had mastered in the days of his youth. It was the most necessary piece of knowledge to people of his profession, for more often than not, the articles they made held liquids, and when something held a liquid, generally, the person that entrusted it to hold said liquid wanted it to be watertight. You’d think that this is common sense, but common sense is a little less common than one would wish to believe.
Today’s project, demanded by a person that had been given a demand by The City, so indirectly given to him by The City, all hail and praise be, was some sort of odd philtering device. Only the Gods, or a philterer, he supposed, knew what it was for, but here he was, being for- er, economically inclined to create said device. Fortunately for him, specifications on what the finished product was supposed to look like were provided. Unfortunately for him, he had no idea how to formally go about creating the device. After a long half hour of thought, a good five minutes of which were spent grumbling about philterers and their ridiculously shaped equipment, Fenilen decided that the most efficient way was also the most simple way. He would start with a round sphere of glass, as per the design, and then place it in the garage. Next, he would create another, smaller sphere, also placing it in the garage. The final part was no doubt the most difficult. He would have to use a mold to form a hollowed cylinder, and then fused it to both of the two spheres in just the right formation.
A challenge, to be certain. With no time to spare, Fenilen had gone straight to creating the first sphere, and that was what brought him to this very moment in time.
