Boiling Over [Sama'el]

Postby Luke Lammergeier on June 24th, 2011, 5:50 am

Luke was many things but he knew when to quit and wasn't afraid to admit it. His ego was one thing that never endangered his life. When he heard the offer to continue he laughed and sheathed his sword. Still feeling the pounding in his head he walked over to the Drykas and held out a hand.

“I need to wash the imprint of your boot off my head anyways. Besides I think we have fought and learned enough about each other.” He waited until the took shook wrists until he started talking again. “Where did you learn to use a... Sword like that?” He didn't really know what the fuck the other man was using so he stuck with what he knew.

Out of breath and sweating Luke decided not to waste time on chit chat and walked while he talked. “Are you a warrior? Don't all of you have marks of some kind? Wind somethings?” Luke quickly dunked his head in the water and started drinking when he emerged. Using both hands to cup the cool water. It was for horses but he didn't mind much at all. Besides he was in Drykas land, might as well act like one. The water was dripping off his face as he looked up at the Pavilion he was meaning to go to. He started to wonder if all he needed was a good beating or a job? With the work he tended to get it was pretty much the same thing anyways.

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

Postby Sama'el Sunsinger on June 24th, 2011, 6:45 am

Sama'el let out his breath in obvious relief, then laughed as he straightened up and caught up his scabbard and shirt, sheathing his scimitar and latching the scabbard to his belt so it hung out of the way. He walked over to the trough with Luke and splashed a bit of water onto his face, running it back through his lengthening hair, enjoying the cool rivulets that cut down his back, soothing the burn of sun and sweat.

"I'm going to ache like nothing tomorrow thanks to you. Oh, the scimitar is what my father wielded." He shrugged, but that had been why he selected that weapon over another when he made his great escape.

When Luke mentioned the windmarks, he held out his left arm. There was a seed rune inked into the inside of his wrist, bound by a stylized manacle broken, and new growth growing up into a band of knotwork just below his elbow, holding another seed rune, this one for Dohaina rather than dead Hasieran, and the crown of arrows rising out of that band. They told a symbolic story of his life so far, and he was, like any Drykas warrior, proud of them.

"Windmarks," he supplied.

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

The water drained from his short cropped hair down his front and back. Soaking into the dark tunic he wore. It was a cool relief from the heat and sweat. In this weather he always felt hot and bothered. His clothes were ill suited for the Sea of Grass but he couldn't risk spending too much coin. Not knowing when or even if he was going to leave the encampment.

Sama'el's Windmarks were definitely something. He didn't like a whole lot about the Drykas but their odd tattoo's were always interesting. Symbols and marks showing you were a warrior. Something to hold onto with pride instead of something intangible like reputations.

“Very different aren't they? Windmarks... I can't remember the name most of the time. But don't they have some sort of story to them? Strips of pride or rank?” Luke rubbed the excess of water from his face and took a couple steps away from the tough and breathed deep. Clasping his hands behind his head and really getting in some good air. Feeling the soreness set in.

Luke listened to the man's explanation. Nodding when needed and saying things here and there. When his questions were answered he moved on to more important things. “So what kind of work can a fighting man get around here? I'm sick and tired of carrying barrels for piss and bread.”

"Windmarks are just tattoos," he said. "Some people place mystical value on them, but really they are just to commemorate things, people, and times in our lives. If you know the person well, you might read their life story inked onto their skins..."

He cupped his hand into the water and splashed his face, drinking a bit from the trough as well. A little horse spit never killed anyone, after all. Looking Luke over, he shrugged.

"You should talk to Inaril. I don't think they'll take you into the Watch if you aren't Drykas, but she has the Sayaph's ear and they might find something for you. Or you could offer to teach children to fight, or something like that. Few of us are only warriors. I'm trying to learn leatherworking, and I'm going to be breeding horses soon, too. It doesn't pay to be too, too specialized."

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

It was understandable that they wouldn't let a foreigner into the Stormwatch, but wasn't there some other type of work around here? Guard duty or escort for travelers? Something that would give him decent work. He didn't have the time or the patience to learn another trade. He was a swordsman since a young man and wouldn't start changing now. He traveled at the right side of Kain most of his life. Even neglected the touch of a woman because of his duties. Like it or not this was all he knew. There wasn't much other skills being taught in a gang.

“Teaching children?” Luke growled. “Well, it might not be that bad. Considering ever one of you Drykas are born with a weapon in hand. If anything I would get my petching ass kicked.” He laughed, exhaled and let go of the back of his head. “And what is Saraph's Ear? Is that some sort of group...?”

When the younger man spoke, Luke listened and when he got his answers. He only saw one thing left to do. “Well Sama'el I think both of us could use a drink after that beating. Where in the hell can we get one? I haven't seen a tavern the whole time I've been here.” Ever since Luke was forced out from Kain's gang on Zelvita. Friends have been in short supply, and he was one to know how important allies were.

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

Sama'el laughed at Luke's reaction. "Well, we all have to do our part to protect ourselves, especially those who travel apart from Endrykas. But you might improve your own skills that way, too. Until you get sick of things and hire on with some caravan on its way out of Cyphrus, I suppose. The Sayaph is the leader of the Watch."

He shook his head at mention of a tavern. The closest thing to that was the Trough, but it had been shut down.

"We don't have all the same amenities as a city, but you can come to my camp and share a jug of ale or something. Meet the horses, stuff."

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

Postby Luke Lammergeier on July 3rd, 2011, 4:33 am

Luke laughed rancorously as he slapped Sama'el's arm. “Yeah I'll see your horse.”[/b ] It struck him as hilarious how beloved these horses were, but he was open to the idea. As long as the Drykas weren't looking at him like he was some strange beast he was fine. He started to walk away from the tent. Any anger or bitterness felt before was dissipated by the good ass kicking. Luke felt alive and full of kick again. Something living in this camp was slowly draining out of him.. Best part was he was about to go have a drink as well. Today was turning out fairly well.

[b]“Alright you lead the way, Sam. Mind if I call you Sam? 'Sama'eeel' is a little hard to pronounce.”
The northerner laughed as he considered his own name. And felt a little embarrassed as he butchered the others. “I'm used to Luke and other simple north names like Kain or Vincent.” He waited for the other mans response before going on. It wasn't like him to talk so much but he was excited about this drink. Fighting with a man taught you about him, but drinking with a man sealed the deal. It had been a long time since he got to Endrykas and he would be damned to let a possible friend and ally get away. You can never have too many good friends to watch your back. Especially when in the Sea of Grass.

“So tell me about your horse, whats its name?” I heard they are called striders right? Fastest petching things I have ever seen in my life. And do you have any sisters or friends to make the night more interesting?” Luke smiled wickedly and continued walking along the Drykas to his tent. He had been cooped up too long and was feeling a bit rambunctious

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

Postby Sama'el Sunsinger on July 3rd, 2011, 8:01 pm

"You can call me Sam. Most people did when I lived in Sylira and Taldera," he added with perfect equanimity. "It's a Drykas name, so nobody but Drykas really pronounce it just right, but it's not a big deal. And oh, well, my Windrunner stallion's just called Horse. I stole him in Sunberth to make a getaway and never caught his name. Just called him Horse and it stuck. My Strider mare is Dohaina, and she actually stole me when I was on my way back to Endrykas. She is rather fast, but a Windrunner is faster once you get outside of Cyphrus. The blessings of Semele and Zulrav on the Striders only work within our territories."

He laughed as they walked toward the Sapphire pavilions, though his little camp was on the outskirts where the non-pavilions camped.

"I have a grandfather, but he's not here. Some cousins, but they keep to themselves. Next time, you can invite some over if you like. They might be interested in your exotic looks or something."

"I have a grandfather, but he's not here. Some cousins, but they keep to themselves. Next time, you can invite some over if you like. They might be interested in your exotic looks or something." Luke had to laugh aloud. ”This is the only place in the world I have been that people considered my looks to be 'Exotic'. In fact I had to shave my beard and cut my hair down after the first couple days of crazy looks.” Luke mocked horns on his head with his hands. ”Like I was some fucking sea creature” Luke said laughing. Enjoying his time in Endrykas for once in a very long time. He thought about the other things he said before and was shocked to hear Sam had been so far north. It must have been an interesting story...

”Sunberth huh...? Seems to me like I'm walking with a fellow bandit!” Luke punched his new comrade on the arm with a smile. ”I've been to Sunberth many times. And it takes some big balls to steal a horse from that city. Specially how farmers can become executioners. But I'm sure a Drykas can hold his own. I've been very impressed with what I've seen so far.” They had been walking for quite some time and it was starting to irritate Luke. Every where you saw the same god damn huge tents. How the fuck did they even learn to navigate this camp?

”Where is your damn camp? It's amazing you can even find it here. It still takes me some time to find my way back home.”

Boiling Over [Sama'el]

Postby Sama'el Sunsinger on July 8th, 2011, 6:13 am

"I'm sure you'd be exotic in Taloba, too, but the Myrian women would eat you alive. Literally and figuratively, probably. And I'm sure the mountain man look is sought after... somewhere..." He laughed and pointed out his camp as soon as it was visible, not really wanting to talk about his time in Sunberth as it involved a humiliating period of time spent as a slave, the freedom that the Drykas fought for taken away from him by main force.

"You aren't a Drykas," he informed him, but it was all in good fun. There were three tents: one Sam's, one Denen's, and one belonging to his servant, Jyn, and his infant daughter. Ugly Pony and Horse were allowed off a lead line with Dohaina there to keep them from straying. She was the alpha female, so to speak, of his tiny herd of horses. But he had plans for their numbers to grow, the pony an aberration as far as quality, but that one was Jyn's at the end of the day.

"Welcome to my humble camp," he said. "One day it will be a great pavilion, but for now... let's get something to drink."
