Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, and drink the wild air.

Lean with corded muscles and standing at an even 6' tall, Moonstone is Topaz Maelstrom's identical twin sister - the only way to tell them apart, unless they're both buck naked, are their eyes and their earrings. Moonstone's eyes are usually darker, even when they are at their lightest shade of cerulean, and she wears moonstone earrings for her name. She also bears a number of tattoos on her suntanned that distinguish her - she has the Maelstrom Pardisa, the hammerhead shark, tattooed between her shoulder blades. A leaping dolphin turns in a circle on her right hip, for Moana, her first Tavan. Her current Tavan, an orca named Hunapo, graces her right shoulder. Moon loves her accessories - the more the better, particularly in her hair, around her neck or on her wrists.

It's always ourselves we find in the sea.

Moonstone, though everyone who knows her well calls her Moon, has a few constants in her personality, which can be as wild or as calm as the sea, and can change just as swiftly as Laviku's waters. There are a few things that are really important to Moon, and they are her family, her pod, her people, her Tavan, and causing trouble. They, along with her pride at being a Maelstrom and a Svefra, run deep. She may tease and prod and annoy her siblings, but she would not stand for such a thing from those outside the family. Some have accused her of being an emotional chameleon, often at their expense and frustration. Moon shares an incredibly close bond with her twin sister, and will at times feed off of Topaz's mood. It's not uncommon for one of them to get a quirky mood and both twins take off with it. She absolutely loves to haggle. Usually quite lively, boisterous, and voracious, Moon does enjoy quiet downtime carving or swimming. Her favourite way to end the day when they're sailing is to tie her ship to Topaz's for the night, and listen to her play while she works on carving.

The sea is mother-death and she is a mighty female, the one who wins, the one who sucks us all up.

Moonstone and her twin sister Topaz were born to Amethyst and Renal Maelstrom. Amethyst always refused to tell anyone who was born first - that way, she explained to the tumultuous daughters, neither of them could fight over it. As far as they were concerned, they were born at the exact same time, and they have been together ever since. Where the twin Maelstroms go, trouble follows - always has, always will. Moon had a great childhood growing up - swimming in the sea, playing with her pod, dancing around the bonfires on the shore, learning to sail, exploring with her siblings and her first Tavan, a dolphin she called Moana. Moon always claimed that when their mother first tossed the twins into the water to get them used to swimming, Moon met Moana, and it was love at first sight. The twins could race, as they each had a dolphin Tavan, since the dolphin could tug around the wiry girl with energy to spare. When the young Maelstrom daughter got a bit older, would propel both of them out of the water, her beak against Moon's feet, and send them both flying into the air, diving into the water and repeating it again and again until Moon was too tired.

What more could a child want?

But when Moonstone was 16, Moana suffered fatal injuries from a shark attack, and she went without a Tavan for almost a year. She began to pick up carving from their father Renal, a shipwright, as a way of dealing with her grief at Moana's loss, and to this day, she finds it a calming, relaxing activity that keeps her mind and hands busy. On her 17th birthday, they met a bull orca that was following the Maelstrom pod at a distance, and Moon made up her mind to meet him, and he would later be named Hunapo. They've been together for five years, and Moon plans to make sure that he is her last. She has caused more than her share of trouble, and has no intention of settling down to help produce the next generation of Maelstroms just yet.

We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch - we are going back from whence we came.

The voice of the sea speaks to the soul.

Moonstone, unlike some Svefra, has only had two Tavans in her life, and if it hadn't been for an unfortunate encounter with a group of sharks, she likely would still have her. But Moana didn't make it, and Moon was heartbroken. After foregoing a Tavan for almost a year, she met a bull orca named Hunapo on the day that she and Topaz were turning 17.

It was slow at first, and it didn't look like they would get on well - her first attempt swimming with the bull was a bit hair-raising. He deliberately breached while she was hanging onto his dorsal fin, and that, at least, had been very, very painful. When it wasn't enough to deter her, he flung her off of his tail and quite a distance away, only to swim over and come and get her. As Moon says, nothing worth having ever comes easy. They're a good match, and Moon considers him their brother. She often acts as a whale liaison with Hunapo's assistance when there is a Nal'lyeo.
