Considered one of the most mysterious cities in Mizahar, Alvadas is called The City of Illusions. It is the home of Ionu and the notorious Inverted. This city sits on one of the main crossroads through The Region of Kalea.

Cryptic Writings - Part 3

Sitting atop a battered desk, a single sheet of parchment is tucked under a glass vial of ink, being held in place for later review and analysis.

A mage is capable of opening a portal into the Void from Mizahar. However, the opening of portals from the Void back to Mizahar are, as of now, hypothesized to be impossible to create. Certainly, this serves as a safety measure for the denizens of Mizahar as it prevents hostile entities (summoned creatures, powerful undead, ancient horrors, and the like) from returning to the world once they have been disposed of. However, the impossibility of doing so is perhaps based upon a flawed belief in the process of creating the physical portals from one side to the other.

In order to create a portal into the Void, the mage focuses their will and uses Djed to create a single point of perfect emptiness, devoid of light, sound, and matter. Doing this creates an exact similarity between that portion of Mizahar and the Void. Once this occurs, and there is no difference between the two locations, a bridge across dimensions forms, and Mizahar and the Void are linked.

The above point is crucial to understanding why one cannot create a portal from the Void into Mizahar using the same methods. If a portal to the Void is created by forming a point of emptiness in the world, then creating that same point of emptiness in a dimension of nothingness would do nothing, as the emptiness is already there. At most, one could possibly create a portal to another portion of the Void. Though, with no difference between the two locations, there would be no method of determining this.

So then, is that the end of the analysis? Is it truly impossible to create a portal from the Void back to Mizahar? Conventional wisdom and experience states that the answer to both of those questions is: yes, it is impossible. Indeed, using the accepted method for creating a Void portal, it is impossible.

However, what if one were to create a portal via another method?

If the method to create a portal into the Void is to mimic the Void perfectly, then it stands to reason that in order to create a portal out of the Void, then one would have to perfectly mimic the destination, thereby creating the bridge between worlds in the other direction.

As with any magical process though, this solution, if indeed it is a solution, is as difficult as it is simple. The first proof of this is that there is no proof of this having been done. Anything which has been banished to the Void has remained banished to the Void.

The second proof is an understanding of what a perfect representation of the destination out of the Void would require in order to be effective. First and foremost, one would have to know an area well enough to recreate it perfectly; it would be analagous to locking a painter or sculptor in a dark room and demanding that they recreate a landscape from memory. Even moreso, aside from the physical appearance of the location, one would have to simulate perfectly less permanent features. Temperature, ambient humidity, the attractive force of Mizahar, air pressure, light direction and intensity, background noise, local Djed flow, and potentially other forces which humanity has yet to discover or understand.

Which begs the question, how does one accomplish all of this from within the Void? If Voiding is the art necessary to travel from Mizahar to the Void, then perhaps Reimancy is the art necessary to move in the other direction. The ability to manifest Res and shape and solidify said Res into physical form would be essential in crafting form from nothingness. The level of skill involved would be daunting, however. Mastery over the creation of several elements, and the necessary reserves of power to be able to create a sufficient volume of Res and manipulate it into form.

Of course, all of the above assumes that one is capable of surviving the freezing cold and vacuum of the Void in order to work their will at all. That would be either an additional Reimantic effect to create breathable air, or some other magical or mundane method of surviving to create the way home.

With all of the hazards and difficulties in doing so, there is little doubt why one could consider creating a gateway from the Void to Mizahar to be impossible. In a natural environment, it is possible that this is still the case, as the complexity of the environment to be duplicated would be beyond the abilities of anyone attempting. However, in carefully controlled, laboratory conditions, one could remove a great deal of the randomness from the destination environment. Tempurature, humidity, air pressure, and lighting conditions could all be controlled, as well as the flow of Djed to the area. All observable variables could be forced into a specific form to allow for ease of duplication.

Before you put this down in any records add a date up top to keep the timeline clear. Other than that though there's no real issue with this so I didn't want to push it.
