This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]
Boy was this such a worrisome town. Not two days before the first sign of anything off in the world had come to visit the town in the form of a discovered corpse out in the woods. Two poor kids had been the ones to find it and later , after the Icewatch became involved and had shut the scened down, but he really hadn't found anything. So for now he was biding his time, roaming the streets of the Frozen Falls Market. Searching to buy a few things of food with the spare amounts of mizas he had with him. But more importantly: he wanted time to think, time to stare at the falls and wonder what his next steps should be to catch a killer.
It is said sometimes in the darkest moments of brooding fate finds ways of bringing some bit of joy to someone's life. Or at very least something very amusing... who knew what this day would hold?

Aiza packed what little had been growing in the garden on the caribou. It was bad enough her mother just died, but her father was beginning to get sick too. She was starting to wonder what she would do if he did die. She wouldn't be able to keep up with the farm. No, she would have to sell it.
Lifting her hood over her head she looked back at the little cottage she called home. "Good-bye father!" the kelvic called out before setting off towards Avanthal. In town the people were bustling about the body found out in the woods. It was on everyone's lips and even worse, it didn't help that she lived in the area. A few eyes here and there followed her as she walked towards the marketplace. Aiza just kept her eyes forward. She, nor her family would do such a thing, so she had nothing to worry about.
Aiza stopped in the market, the caribou packed with a few good foods to sale. But with her father being bed ridden, and fall's early chill, they were not the best quality.

The falls, they were as beautiful as the days before. A means of something to catch the eye and stare at in peaceful serenity. The light glinting through the icicles alone was spectacular. But even the sight of such a natural wonder did nothing to quell the tumult of his thoughts.
Deciding it best to start acquiring the resources he'd need for his camp, Antar began to walk the markets. His cloak was wrapped tightly around him to ward off the ever present chill of Avanthal's climate and he silently cursed the ability of every vantha he saw who seemed capable of warding off the ever present chill. It was unnatural to him, as if they all had ice water in their veins, and maybe to his damnable luck they had. Just as a means of laughing at every 'poor' outsider who couldn't properly speak their language.
'God what a pain that little hurdle was!' Antar would be making many a return trip to the library to learn to cross that little divide. For the second time that day, Antar jerked his thoughts back to the present as he began to look for anything that might be pallateable. Normally vendors in the market set up stalls by grace of the holds and it might behoove him to browse a few... Putting such thoughts to rest, he began to search for any price caller that caught his eye...

Aiza finally put up her makeshift stall. It centered around her caribou who looked unamused. "Sorry girl, but I am not as good as Dad is..." She whispered into the caribou's ear. And with that, she took a deep breath in and turned around to face the street.
Aiza cupped her hands around her mouth, and shouted. "Aiza's shop is now officially open!" Honestly, the poor girl had no clue what she was doing. Her stall was lopsided, her goods not labeled. Nor did she know prices or what to do with what. Her father always did it while her mother and herself would shop. Even the caribou felt out of place. Aiza, despite her lack of salesmanship attempted to sale what goods she had.

Just spamming links at you would overload you with information my friend . Just start slow at your own pace reading all the lore on avanthal: it's not really necessary to go all meticulous in the hows and whys in this thread : it's just for you to know it's around to find it later . (Just do a lore search on "avanthal") or ask cheshire or any vantha to point you in the right directions though there's a few fast threads under the avanthal forum you should read eventually . A good thing to note- Caribou are the main herd, riding or pack animals in the snowlands. For the 'ooc' bbcode ; I'll give you your first hint Top of the forum under "features" is the bbcodes help page the out of character code is listed there But for this thread: forget all that and just try to get in your character's head .
Ah the market... in any city it was the heart of the people, and Avanthal was no exception to that fact. Merchants and trade thrived everywhere you went, even if trade between the cities was more uncommon in these times due to the dangers of travel on the road. He stopped a few places along the way, admiring a few choice items such as winterbane cloaks that the various shops sold.
But eventually, his eyes wandered to a small stall in the area which no one seemed to go to, manned by a young woman as a shopkeeper. Taking a look at her enough to note her apprehension, Noth cast an eye to her wares. The wares on the stall counter of course. Scrappy looking food products seemed present there. Scrawny vegetables rranged neatly for sale. They weren't the best looking ones Noth had seen. Many of the carrots seemed to be plucked before full growth. "Baby carrots" as some would say. But any starving man's stomach would rejoice at a bit of grub. Shame no one else seemed to be paying her little notice.
Not only that, but it seemed she was dressed warmly as well... and she didn't seem to be like any vantha. He wondered if she spoke common. You should choose your languages on your CS By Morwen's blood it would be nice to have a decent conversation with someone for a change in this frost blasted city. Smiling widely, he spoke. "Hello there."

Aiza watched as people passed by, uninterested in her weak looking goods. She looked over her shoulder, at what she had displayed, then looked at the other stalls of other merchants. Hers looked nothing like theirs. Aiza gave a heavy sigh, "I wish mother were still around." She whispered to herself before looking up to meet eyes with a foreign stranger.
Watching as he eyed her goods he then looked at her and smiled widely before saying a friendly 'hello' in common language. She blinked for a moment and smiled back shyly, before sucking it up. "Hello! Are you interested in anything?" She said nervously. Aiza was terrible with talking to strangers, she had enough trouble saying much to the city folk but a total stranger? But it was for the good of her farm.
Common? Ah sweet blessed words of wholesome clarity without the sordid temperament of a spitting hyena glaring down at him like he was somebody's dinner! Inwardly, Noth rejoiced a little at the spoken word, and a smile lit his face as he nodded at the young woman's nervous reply to his words. Truly a fascinating discovery amidst this wintry wonderland of cold days, and even colder hearts, and for once... a resident of this city wasn't talking to him like he was two inches tall. She even said hello to him!
Smiling even wider he nodded once, and then twice more to the lass, "I'm just a starving traverler looking for a few things to make my next meal there, madam. So if I might ask: what are your prices?"
"I am the Shadow and the smoke in your eyes, I am the ghost that hides in the night." ~Back, but slow.
"P-prices?" She stumbled over her words, looking wide eyed at the stranger. I didn't think about prices! In a small panic at which she attempted to hide she looked over to the pile of carrots and made a guess. "1 silver for one of anything." She spat out, the fact that carrots are much more than that, she of course, did not understand the value of money, or the value of products.
With a wide smile she tried to hide her incompetence, not letting her first costumer ever see that she had no clue what she was doing.
Antar seemed a bit taken aback as he pondered the girl's apparent lack of shopkeeper skills.
It was obvious the crops she had lain out for sale were grown, and he wondered just where they had been harvested. He'd heard rumors of the people of the north using heated stones to help keep the earth warm enough to till and tend their crops. Imagine that: specialized stones to do the job? He didn't understand the basic mechanics of such a thing, or how one of the Vanthan Holds succeeded in such a manner of growing crops. But it sure was fascinating to him. Despite their bleary, and boorish demeanor it seemed they all possessed a rare sort of ingenuity for carving their way out in the frozen lands that Noth admired.
At the mention of 1 silver for each item, Noth's eyes narrowed slightly as he wondered if that was the base price for a single carrot, or simply a single ounce of food. If it was the former, it could add up to close to eight silver per pound, which was still an abysmally cheap price. If it was the latter, the price of an ounce, then it would still be 16 silver for a pound of food. The latter was still a good bargain all things considered. Even if they were shrimply and weak looking carrots. The items he'd gain for his belly might be a real steal, and he might have gotten concerned about taking advantage of the girl for not knowing her prices.
Ferreting his brow he began the next step of haggling. Showing one's demeanor, even if he acted like he had to consider the sale."Well then, I'll take 3 pounds of potatoes, a pound of carrots, and six ounces of onions if that's alright."
Reaching for his coinpurse the starving man began fidgeting through his money as he waited for Aiza to ready the order for her first sale...

His order was big for her first order, or she felt it was, she was expecting something less. Aiza turned to her cart and looked at the vegetables set out. It was another issue, she didn't know how to weigh the food, trying to keep her cool, she started to fill a sack full of potatoes. She felt it and guess till she felt it was around three pounds or so, setting that aside, she started on the carrots, filling up about one back seemed enough to be one pound now the onions. She did the same, giving him just one onion. Turning to him, she smiled. "Okay sir, that will be... uhm..." She thought for a moment, adding numbers she made up for each item. "50 Silver." She guessed, wrong or not, it was the best she could put out. She gave a big grin, hoping he would be kind enough to just take the food and go.
