Gesler scratched his bearded chin as he made his way through the streets. Feeling something moist touch his hand he stopped right in his tracks. It was a drop of saliva. ”What? No! Not going to fly.” Wiping his face, the fickle man looked into the reflection of a window as he straightened up his facial hair. Gesler did not care much for his looks, but he needed to be clean and orderly. No exceptions. Looking like a bum was not something to be checked off on life’s list. Tugging on the cuffs of his long sleeve shirt, Gesler proceeded on his afternoon mission.

His mission? Simple: obtain a package from a certain individual at the docks. The contents of the package would be unknown to all but the two men involved. There was a mutual understanding between the two men. As long as Gesler’s identity remained hidden from all, he would continue to purchase. That’s the way the young artist liked it. Keep everything under wraps. Gesler was no idiot though. He had a backup plan. If shit hit the fan, he would be well covered, but that’s a story for later though.

Arriving at the designated location, Gesler posted up against a brick wall. Down by the lake. That was dock slang for a common location to pick up illegal goods from the black market. Looking around one last time, Gesler produced a pouch of tobacco. Inside the pouch was a corn cob pipe, already filled with long cut black tobacco. He then took a minute to kneel down and light his pipe. Sparking a strip of soft wood ablaze, Gesler puffed his pipe to perfection. It took him awhile, but eventually it was lit correctly. Standing back up, the man took a long drag from the pipe to awaken his senses. The air was filled with the sweet, sweet smell of the leaf. Leaning back and puffing slowly on his pipe, Gesler could now loiter in comfort as he waited for his contact to arrive.

After several minutes, Gesler’s man finally arrived. The dealer was wearing a white tunic and black pants. His long brown hair was tied in a ponytail.

“How’s it going?” the black market salesman opened.

“Same thing, different day,” Gesler snorted and spat on the floor. He wanted everything to be short and sweet.

“Ain’t that everyone?”

“Yup.”

“Ahem…well, I got the same thing as last week, same price, no other options. Right then?”

“I appreciate,” Gesler said as he shook hands with the man leaving the designated amount of miza in his palm.

“I’ll see you down by the river,” the dealer said as he slipped a brown package into Gesler’s other hand as they shook hands.

The meeting was over in seconds. Down by the river. That meant they would meet down by the lake in a week’s time. The black market dealer walked away as silently as he came, but Gesler stood still. He wasn’t in a rush. Puffing on his pipe and lost in thought, the musician stayed posted for a whole minute before moving. Finally, Gesler leaned forward and began to amble slowly back where he came from.

Down by the Lake (Solomus)

Postby Solomus Revon on November 2nd, 2011, 12:45 pm

Solomus followed the bearded man without any reason besides the fact that he could. The apprentice of Rhysol did that often, knowing that many didn't deny him. They wouldn't know he was a follower of Rhysol, as he wore nothing that marked him a follower, but not many would say much to a man with his warhammer in reaching distance. And if his hammer wasn't? They probably still wouldn't. Maybe it was his topkot, or the scowl always on his face. Solomus didn't know, and didn't care. As long as he could do what he wished.

Solomus' target stopped at a wall, and put himself up against it casually. So Solomus stepped into the shade of a tree, watching silently. For a few chimes, he watched the man puff on a pipe, but then a second man arrived. They traded a quick conversation, and than the new man gave him a package. Miza was exchanged, and the man left. But the bearded man stood around for a moment more.

Solomus scowled more. What was in that package? And what did Down by the River mean? Too many questions, and only one way to learn the answers. So when the man turned to leave, Solomus stepped out of the shade, right hand on his hammer. "Shady deals are not something I enjoy, stranger. Now let me see the package." What would this man react to? Would he see just a thug wanting whatever he got, or something more?
