77th day of Fall 511 AV

After having some time to recover from the previous lesson days before, Bob realized he had more to learn in order to properly defend himself in Sunberth. As useful proved to be, shielding is something entirely new to him and he had no confidence in relying on it. It would be different had he practiced the invisible art as much as his reimancy which until recently has successfully evaded him. Now he remembered it well and Sunberth would be no longer be a problem but...it was different somehow and he found he could no longer use it as he did before. Maybe his newfound 'friend' can help him with it. From their misadventure at the expense of some Sunberth scumbags, Bob knew that Crimson is quite proficient in reimancy. As the man had been so helpful in teaching shielding, he should also be able to help with reimancy. Owing another undefined 'something' would not be much since Bob had one in his ledger. If Crimson's task was big enough, maybe he could count it as two. And so Bob left fully intent on finding the Crimson Edge camp once more.

While Bob had been to the camp a few times to meet its other members already it still took time for him to get there. This was not because of his own failures in navigating the city but because Sunberth seemed to be more...dangerous... With the incident at the hangings days before, some of its people were on the edge even more than usual displaying their weapons openly or for the more sneaky ones, doing a sloppy job of hiding theirs especially when there were people already on the look out for them. Bob was one of these people. While he was determining the shortest route he can take to get to the camp from Killroy's Kennels, his eyes were also scanning the people at his starting point and he would say he was not too confident with any of them. Those that did not look jumpy were filled with confidence with that their weapons would protect or perhaps, it was more than confidence in their weapons.

Bob took care when walking the street. Taking pains to ensure that he himself did not bump into anyone that fell into the two categories which meant everyone. It went as far as in one instance when Bob had to go through a narrow route among tough looking folk, he leaped to the side when someone else came along too close to him. At least the man did not get offended at the spectacle of Bob's attempts at dodging him. In fact the man laughed after seeing the comical approach Bob took in stretching his legs far apart to get to the other side after his little hop. Still, Bob was not too convinced and after he passed into the other side he broke out into a run. As fast as his legs could carry him he dashed forward, turning away when he saw a large group lingering at the side and continuing onwards until he was able to duck into a lonely street. Thinking he was safe he finally slowed down into a slow trot and decided to walk the rest of the way. The strain in his sudden leap and then the forced run were something that he could not ignore.

But he should not have failed to take the opportunity to scout around this new location ignoring the caution he practiced when he left on this foolish enterprise. The mistake was really stupid because he blissfully continued to walk pass a seemingly harmless group of people, harmless when they were compared to all the armed Sunberth citizens that have made an impression on him earlier in the day. It happened suddenly. Bump! the sudden knock forcing him to take a few steps to the side and before he could say "excuse..." me he found himself going bump! into another one which suddenly appeared behind him. After he had a chance to look around and find that he was surrounded, he could only say "shyke..." before being pushed right into the alley where they revealed their weapons. Bob would have appreciated how smart they were in planning something like this if he was not already the victim.

"I don't have anything to give you!" he said defiantly and drew his own concealed weapon from its cane. A lot smaller and less dangerous when compared to theirs, kind of like him and his muggers. They laughed and then...he joined in as well to try and make it seem like he was one of them until bonk! one attacked him, angry that Bob dared to laugh. Bob was as surprised as they were when he saw what happened and remembered about the shield Crimson had put on him before. "I forgot all about that..." he mumbled to himself and took the opportunity to give the one which just struck a taste of what he tried to do to him. Not wasting time to right his sword, Bob decided that the hilt would be enough and just raised his arms in a sharp motion, the hilt connecting to the man's chin and forcing him to stumble back. This shield was a real good advantage and Bob considered if he should develop his skills more but for now, he asked the men "do you want to try your luck?" against the shield the power Crimson wove over him.

They looked like they were thinking of what to make of Bob which gave him a chance to recall what Crimson told him about the shield. With what they equipped themselves with, he gave a smirk knowing that they will not be able to do anything even when they made their simultaneous attack, thank the gods for the shield or Bob would not have been able to defend himself. It was because of the shield that Bob allowed himself to test out something for himself. His sword came up rather quickly to block the attacker on his right, blades crossing to prevent the slash from going any further while his attacker to the left was shown his cane. Bob did not know how to actually use the cane let alone both the cane and the sword at the same time! Like the sword he tried to whip the cane upwards to catch the lunge coming at him but Bob missed and the thrust cleanly struck his arm before sliding and continuing until the man went right past him. "Ouch?" Bob said in a taunting fashion to remind the muggers of his advantage. Maybe they would even run since he seems invincible now.

With his condition Bob felt it best to take advantage and practice fighting armed with both weapons. He smiled, spreading his arms apart to give the men a target while he again taunted "attack me!" which bordered on a stern command. Already the invulnerability was affecting his mind. He would need to work on his shielding to feel this rush again. After the pause, the first of the men rushed Bob who only flicked his sword up for a block and while he was occupied the next one came for slash which Bob met by sending his cane down from the air hoping it will block this time. Bob was disappointed he failed although the shield at least bounced the sword away. Then something Bob did not expect happened. The third man came for him. Even if Bob had blocked there would be nothing he could do if not for the shield. The sword brushed along his body until it hit the ground and Bob gave a smile retaliating with the only other weapon he had, his body. Bending backwards slightly, he smashed his own head into the man's as hard as possible bringing damage to both of them.

A cry of "petch!" could be heard in unison as Bob discovered the limitations of the shield Eryss put on him. His head felt sore and he decided that using his head to attack was not something he was going to repeat. Instead he told the men "I hope you are ready because..." Bob was going to attack as illustrated by the way he was waving those weapons of his. The men were obviously wary of the shield and after his challenge only one person dared to advance on Bob. Not wanting to waste his practice too early Bob chose to attack only with the cane as he clumsily waved it from side to side at the man that was coming towards him. He was so bad at it that the cane only hit on air even when the man stood still, sure that Bob would not even be able to hit which got Bob a bit mad. Which was why after another few swipes that missed when he was advancing Bob faked preparing to make another swipe when he stayed his hand with the cane to keep himself stable. Stable enough to make a slash at the man with his sword in his other hand.

Unfortunately because of his attacks with the cane that was obviously longer than the sword it contained within it, Bob misjudged his reach and his sword barely cut into the man's hand. It was then Bob felt that the dual wielding of people like Eridanus while it seems advantageous was quite hard if not done right but he did not allow himself to give up yet. Once his sword reached the ground he made a slash across with the cane which being longer was able to hit the man's already bleeding hand and force him to drop his weapon. Bob smiled saying "see that? I'd leave now if I were you before something more serious happens" Bob suggested with confidence radiating from him as he took on another stance with his weapons. A stance that although looked intimidating a more experienced fighter would know is completely useful to fight this way.

Although these men were not experienced , Bob's display of his own inexperience allowed them be confident they will be able to attack and perhaps even win! All three charged again, their weapons bouncing off because of the shield before Bob struck back. The motion he would use is simple enough. So simple that he would not have to split his attention between his weapons. Bob spread his arms and made a spin, feeling the blows getting in. The cane hit four times, the sword twice and even his arm hit twice from being too close to one of his targets. That was what made him stop. The arm which hit felt the full force of the impact, forcing him to stop before he dropped the weapons and the men found out the weakness of the shield. He knew he had to make some distance between the men and he with his cane pointed straight out, he thrust into the gut of one. Seeing the target hit and dropping to the ground in pain Bob was able to look at the next, holding his sword away before whipping his arm back. He saw the hilt of the sword smashing into the other's jaw before falling sideways.

And then, there was only one person left. Bob could have let him run but...they were the ones that have chosen this alley to ambush him and the only thing he could conclude is so he himself would not be able to escape or get any help. He could see the man's eyes widen as though some chance was given to him when Bob dropped his weapons but no, it was so Bob could take out his whip. "Chances to practice...they don't come very often" he said before holding up the whip and twirling in the air declaring "...I'm going to make the most out of this." Until early Spring Bob knew he could take on the world but for now, he brought his arm down towards the man. It could have been because Bob was more used to whipping smaller animals that ran around but the man was lucky. The whip snaked to the side and hit the ground with a crack and Bob frustrated at the miss had to say in order to hide the fact he could use the whip well "its not going to be fun if you are not moving."

Holding up the whip again Bob said "so move!" before sending it down at his target one more time. Then he did it again, and again each time missing the man that moved out of the way on time. Eventhough he was missing so much, Bob was having fun. Animals learned to stop when the pain came but this man just would not give up thinking he still had the advantage when Bob had he less lethal weapon compared to him. Seeing that the man was only moving from side to side Bob decided to try anticipating that for practice. He held the whip up and waited until he saw the man already moving to his decided course and sent it at that direction. Thwack! The whip hit the spot the man was just about to reach and he stopped. "No, don't stop now" Bob said raising the whip and again waiting for the man to move the other direction before sending it down to the spot he was about to reach. Repeating it a few times Bob could see a pattern. His whip eventhough it was missing was good enough to control where the man was going.

But if Bob could have seen the pattern how could the man not? Eventually after Bob has been happily whipping from side to side in order to prevent the man from making any escape, the man charged in with his sword. Taken by surprise Bob was only pull back his whip exclaiming "what th-! before the sword hit him. Again it was the shield that saved him and Bob reacted quickly with the weapon he had on hand. Holding a length of it across his chest he pushed it out towards his attacker as he found he did not have enough distance between his target to actually use the whip as intended. The whip he held found the man's throat and Bob heard him choking as he tried to overpower the dwarf. Undoubtedly Bob was pushed back and the man continued rushing forward until he stopped. Panting from when Bob accidenta...or he would say planned very well to try crushing the windpipe. "You thought you could get me?" Bob asked angrily before testing the strength of the whip in his hands and advancing.

He went wild with the whip now. The man's back turned him provided too tempting a target to resist and Bob just started lashing. Thwack! Swish! Crack! Woosh! were all heard everytime Bob hit or missed his target unless he hit an entirely different thing. From continuously moving his arm for so long, Bob soon became tired. His arm ached each time he hit something as the force of the blow traveled up it. Finally he asked one last time "do you have enough now?" before raising his arm up. The strain of holding up the whip was felt the longer he took. If he really wanted to continue this he could just switch hands but he felt it was enough. Moving his arm a little more towards the back in case it can increase its power for him Bob struck commanding the man to "repent!" and heard that satisfying sound of a crack! when it hit. Quickly, Bob went back to where he dropped his sword in case but the man never stood up. Neither did his comrades. Relieved, Bob rolled up his whip and returned the sword back into its cane.

Ending the incident there would have been a good idea but Bob felt there was something more he should do. He might have beaten them in the fight thanks to the shield but they would forget about it and victimize someone else in the future. It might even be himself again if they did a real good job at forgetting! There had to be something he could do that they will remember so that they will not randomly attack anyone that passed them in the streets. After thinking a little Bob had an idea. An idea that formed a mischievous grin on his face. It was based on an old story he heard in Syliras and he would recite it as he went to work for himself to remember the what and why he was doing it. Should it reach the unconscious men's mind somehow, it could be a bonus but the first thing that Bob had to do was make sure they were unconscious. As his uncle had taught him in order to tell the difference of a dead and unconscious man Bob went to each, pressing his fingers to their throat to detect if there is a pulse and then pulling up an eyelid to check if the eyes are moving. He confirmed it, "they're out."

It was during that time when Bob put a little of the blood bleeding from the mouth of the man he punched in the jaw on his fingers, actually both of them. With that blood he began to mark his palms, forming a circle on each one. It was a motion he has practiced many times before doing any magic. While not a requirement, he found that the focus made things a lot more easier. However, blood never was never a good replacement for ink and Bob circled his fingers around his palm a few times more to make sure that the circle was made properly without any gaps or holes. And then it was time. "Who's going to go first?" he asked himself looking at the three men. It was then he decided that he would go in the order the men were taken down in and begun the story. "It was about a bunch of squires that never reached knighthood, because they allowed themselves a moment of weakness..." kind of like these men that jumped on the first opportunity when meeting Bob himself.

The first person Bob attacked was getting back on his feet and the second was whimpering like one of those lesser animals in the Kennels. It was then the limitations of the shields that Eryss told him about was remembered the hard way when a punch surprised him in the chest. "Damned punk" who needed to be taken down before he knew what happened. Bob quickly punched him until he was out of breath with his fists bloodied. The whimpering from the remaining man slowly turned into a scream which would have been loud if Bob did not stop it with his hand but he cannot remain that way the whole day could he? Maybe now would be a good time to test what he learned.

"Shhh...shhh...shhh..." but that was not a request for the man. It was more like a commandment for his djed. The one which was being released from his hands against the man's muffled cries. At least Bob did not need to knock this one out since the cries did not disturb his concentration much. After he felt the djed along his hand and over the man's mouth he tasked it like his verbal commands to block out sound. Time passed and it felt like stupidity until there was nothing to be heard any longer. Could it have worked? Bob slowly released his hand like he was testing one of those more vicious dogs during feeding time and it did! As surprised as the man was Bob was satisfied.

Bob should have left there and then but this was just too fun. Maybe some more punishment was in order of this group. He looked at the other two on the ground and decided holding the one he bloodied his hands on by the ears. Like the mouth, both hands were placed on both ears while Bob concentrated to cover them with his djed. It took longer than previously since it was both but when he was done, he decided on the same task to block out sound. It was going to be a pity that he would not be around later but...

The list continues with see. The last member of the group lay unconscious on the ground and now all Bob had to do was place both his hands on the eyes. This was one of the first things he learned and it should be easier since it was a lot less...or harder since he needed to split his concentration on two points. But finally the djed that came from his hands was covering his victim's eyes. Gray...black...whatever. All the shield needed to do was block out light. When Bob was done, the sun was already well over his head. "Just look at how much time you wasted?" he asked the only awake one but there was no sound coming from him. That was actually a good thing because the noise from him would have made Bob's efforts take longer or make it fail altogether. From what he could compare, while this was not as taxing as reimancy it was a lot more troublesome since he had to concentrate.

So yay! No more of that today. Running off and leaving the men behind him Bob took more care in avoiding weapons, trouble and groups! When he finally made his way to the camp he searched around for Eryss but then it should be easy to find the "red cloak guy" as he described to everyone else but for Eryss when he finally found him? Bob would ask that "you know reimancy right?"
