Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

As the ships slow their pace entering the greater port of Riverfall, many crews take a moment to pause in their pre-docking work and preparations to simply gaze ahead, and above, at the beautiful city they approach. The closer to the docks the vessels get, the more the crews crane their necks in order to glimpse and attempt to take in the entire three thousand foot face of the city the Akalak call their home. The Bluevein River cascades down the cliffs in one wondrous falls that, from a distance, seems ever so peacefully flowing and inviting.

Entering the perimeter of fishing boats and other smaller sea-faring crafts, the radius of mists emanating from the turbulent fusion of the Bluevein River and the Suvan Sea engulfs the air and shifts with the varying winds. On some mornings the fog covers the port and surrounding areas of the city so densely that ships must wait for them to lift before attempting to maneuver around rocky jetties. This wait sometimes lasts for days forcing the ships to send smaller dinghies in for more provisions for the crew. Regardless of the sort of experience their particular entry into the city involves, arriving in the shipyards and finally stopping their ships does not spell the end of the hard work.

With a constant flurry of workers loading and unloading ships and palettes containing any number of goods, it becomes easy for a person new to Riverfall to get caught up with the unique scenery around the port. Though Akalak are found scattered around the docks and storage locations, helping move shipments around, and securing arrivals or preparing departures, some Akalak are moving with attentive eyes and serve a different purpose. Usually ship captains or their aides find these men and give them information regarding the number of people arriving or departing, their cargo, and their last port or next port depending on the situation. The Akalak always keep as accurate of records as possible when it comes to who and what enter their beloved city. These same men will also stop those deck hands that seem to be wandering and taking in the sights and sounds rather than diligently working. Usually these are the signs of a new person to the city or the shipping business and either way they are here to help. The tall, muscular, blue-skinned man would ask, ”Hello there, can I help you with anything?”

28th day of Summer, 503 AV

At last, the end of this part of his journey was drawing to an end. From the moment Riverfall was in sight Elias grew more anxious by the minute. The last two hours were especially long and when the ship finally docked he was already standing on deck with his belongings at his feet. The crew members were also relieved to land their feet on solid ground again, their enthusiasm evident by the eager taps on Elias' shoulders as they walked past him toward a place they knew from an earlier visit. But Elias was simply standing there, staring at the massive frame of the captain's interlocutor, a flesh and blood Akalak. They were having a casual discussion and seemed to know each other. Elias couldn't detach his eys off him for Then a smile gradually took over his astounded expression. It wasn't a dream anymore. He was there, in the city of his Mistress, alongside her sons such as the one he was currently looking at. Elias approached the Akalak with unnecessary caution as he finished his discussion with the captain. The man walked past Elias, unconcerned by his passenger's lack of farewells. A quiet lad he had been, and the pay was well worth it.

-”Hello there, can I help you with anything?”

The sudden greeting was met with a sudden answer:

”T-The Abbey?” He stuttered. Calm down. One deep breathe sufficed to bring him back to his near-normal self.''I am also willing to find a permanent place to stay for the next few months in this beautiful city.''

The Akalak who had taken the time to address the newcomer nodded, as if this were the most common response to his query. The arrival of the vessel meant that it was crowded now, even as people began to trickle off to the destination that had brought them here.

"That way," the Akalak said, lifting a muscled arm to point. "Follow the path. Someone in the city will instruct you on where to find food, and lodging. Welcome to Riverfall, stranger."

Having said as much, the Akalak had other work to attend and so, once Elias had taken his advice and set off, he returned to just that.

The gentle nudge of the ships hull against the dock had Cailet rocketing out of her bunk. After laying prostrate for gods know how long, the woman simply couldn't wait to get off the floating nightmare. Sea sickness had hit her from the moment the ship left the harbor in Alvadas and she hadn't been able to keep a single thing down since.

Having locked herself below decks in a tiny cabin, Cailet didn't have to go far to gather her things; a single knapsack with two sets of clothes and mostly untouched rations, a journal and what money she had. Her staff had been rolling along the floor for the past day and a half, back and forth with each sway of the boat. Stooping, the young woman gathered the staff and left the cabin without a backwards glance.

Immediately blinded by the sun, she threw her forearm up to shield her eyes as she squinted around her; sailors dashed to and fro trying to follow the shouted orders of the captain. Having made no friends or acquaintances on the ship, Cailet ducked and weaves between the running men, slowly making her way towards the dock.

"Ahhhhhh." The moment she stepped from the gently rocking deck onto the salt worn planks of the dock, the nausia left her. Back on solid ground, she felt safe, secure.

"Never again..." Still squinting and leaning heavily on her staff for support, Cailet simply waited for someone to take note of her.

It was with a roiling stomach that Sterling found his was off the wretched boat and into the port. His stomach was rotten with seasickness, his face pallid green. The cool sweat beaded along his forehead, neck, and spine. His emerald cotton shirt shone with the salty moisture across his chest and back. With bloodshot eyes and the worst possible taste in his mouth, he set his pack down to rest.

”Ugh…” He groaned, massaging his stomach under his shirt. Something to settle his empty stomach was the first thing on his mind. He gazed around as his sick stomach roiled again with an angry noise.

Timestamp: Mid Winter (time unknown for Shai's benefit), 511 AV
Purpose: Arrival in Riverfall

Leading his horses, his falcon, and Nil'Anon of the ship was a bit of a trouble for Antar. He was perpetually in the dark about why they had come to the cliffen city. The symenestran woman had wanted to come here to climb the cliffs. He had wanted to get out of the city of illusions for awhile, and the fact that the two cities were only ten days away from each other by ship was a real boon in the decision making process.

Not that he minded though; he had heard the city was the dwelling place of the night mother and moreover filled with wonderful architecture. Sure , Antar would have to deal with crowds as he inspected things, he really didn't like crowds as much as he liked to hide in them. Architecture, carpentry, building stuff in general was a fascination for him. Something he could use to yearn and create something with his own hands, but he knew in order to study it properly he would have to move amongst several societies in his lifetime before he developed his own style of working and ornamentation.

So why wouldn't he come to Riverfall might be a better question. A city with a river running through the center, its waters plummetting down to the suvan sea below. It was an architectural paradise for the keen eye, and to be sure he'd be trying his hand at taking it all in while Shai went to have her own bit of fun.

Shai...

He would take a glance to the right as she lead her own animal out of the ships holds. She was fastly becoming a welcome companion and he wondered how serious in relationship they might become. It was odd... he had never wondered before if he would fathom paying recognition to the passing thought he might take a woman into any form of vow- He glanced in his direction and he let out a smile until someone jostled him from behind. All thoughts of the prior ruminations was forgotten amidst hustle and bustle of things as a giant blue skinned man brushed up against his armored form and for a time he wondered whether or not the akalak was being unfriendly before Antar saw him smile and apologize. Antar would quickly reciprocate a means of reply,"No no, such things are to be expected from time to time. It would be foolhardy to think anything of them. Perhaps though you might tell me where I might buy some paper and ink though?"

"Paper and Ink?" the akalak would ask him as it gave him a hard look, "What use does an armed human have for paper and ink?"

Antar smiled and kept his hands on Dawnstride's reins, the ekytolian desertbred was tied to Duskplodder, his pack horse of a mountain pony."Now don't be like that good sir. I haven't been just a mercenary in my time, I'm a carpenter, and builder to. I've also learned a little of medicine and such things like massage fascinate me after being in Alvadas. My girl and I are here to have some fun in a little getaway for us. I intend to take in every minute of it drawing or doing something else to amuse me. Maybe I'll even check out an akalak to see if any of them would like to wrestle sometimes. But who knows my good man if we'll stay longer, I maybe I'll take up a job or two then. So now where can I get some paper and ink?"

He'd pause a moment and frown a bit before continuing, "and where can I find anything about a job?"

The giant blue man would stop a moment and then blink at him, staying silent for a moment; Antar mused that perhaps the akalak was wondering this human or thing that was Shorter then him was here for."Jobs are in the third tier, the one your in now, at the government building. If you are a jack of all trades maybe you'd find something useful there. Then there's the inn nearby too if you need a place to rest. Then there's the shops at the Zhongjie Warren Bazarre. You should be able to find anything there. If you are interested in the medical profession there's the Sanctuary outside the gates, and if you like massage you'd be interested in applying for work in the spa."

Antar smiled became a bit broader as he glanced over in Shai's direction. "Oh... I don't know. I tend to think she'd not like it if I worked at a massage place. Though... I wouldn't mind fixing up a spa. I've worked at a hotsprings before to help repair things. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks fella."

The Akalak grunted and turned away, his eyes moving down to the next person entering the port as the rogue began his journey into the cliffen artifice ... he had a whole new city to explore and he wanted every moment to count.
"I am the Shadow and the smoke in your eyes, I am the ghost that hides in the night."

Shai cautiously led the stallion down the docks, following Antar. She kept close to Chi’s side, the horse chocolate horse gave her some measure of safety. Crowds, understandably, made any intelligent Symenestra nervous. The situation was only worsened for the spider because the sum of her knowledge about Akalaks came from stories her brother had made up to scare her with. Obviously Shai, have long since grown up, knew that the tales were highly exaggerating if not completely fabricated, but the stories of giant blue men seemed unfortunately accurate thus far. Hopefully they couldn’t crush a Symenestra’s bones just by accident as well.

Her reasons for visiting Alvadas were few. Chiefly, Shai wanted out of the insane city of illusions that she’d been a temporary resident of for almost half a season now. But, a small portion of the thief’s inquisitive nature had to meet these colored behemoths. So far, at least one characteristic was exaggerated; they didn’t appear much larger than Antar in height, then again for a five foot spider the whole world was a very large place. As her companion stopped to speak to some passer-by she finally made up her mind, trying to walk through this crowd would get her injured. The spider rolled up her sleeves and tossed them over Chi’s back, exposing the microscopic hooks along her arm she use them to climb up onto the stud’s back. Were the movements Languid? Yes. Was the maneuver graceful? Not a surrogate’s chance in Kalinor. Clambering up onto the beast’s back she announced to Antar it was time to move on, “Let us get off the streets and find a place for the horses Anthony, I am certain there are many more you can question for directions.” She stated insolently, as though it wasn’t her own limbs she was worried for but the horses’ tempers. She directed Chi to follow behind Antar’s horses as they wove their way through the docks and into Riverfall.
