The dao looked practically finished, there was just the issue of the handle and the guard left to be forged into position. Gunho watched in rapt attention as the hilt was constructed in much was same fashion as the blade itself was forged. A piece of metal, heated then hammered out to a form that could be easily taken into a hand and held firmly in a tight fist became the hilt and it was quickly joined by a crossguard with his specifications. Then Marcus melded them together through heat, merging blade, handle and guard seamlessly into a proper weapon on war. When he was finished the item looked as menacing as any dao he'd ever seen in the past. The only difference here was that it shone almost silver instead of golden like the dao he'd seen in lhavit. "Leather." he decided firmly. "I think it doesn't absorb sweat as easily so it wouldn't need to be replaced often. If the dao becomes damaged somehow can I bring it back to you for repairs? I would naturally pay you for your work though I'll avoid putting this thing through abuse for as long as I can." "Its a wonderful swords Sir Marcus, I am honored to have had a man as skilled as you forge my weapon for me." he bowed again at the waist, showing a sign of respect and gratitude. |
Marcus nodded and retrieved a few bands of leather, which he neatly wrapped around the hilt of the Dao. He then proceeded to put the final touches on the weapon, first by paying the grinder another visit. This time when he pressed the blade against the stone, he was aiming to sharpen it. After a few minutes Marcus had completed sharpening the weapon, complete with a full single edged blade, and the edge on both sides of the blade toward the top, so the sword was capable of thrusting. Marcus then proceeded to polish the blade with a rag that he used to polish all his weapons. As Marcus twisted the blade in the light, the rays reflected off the blade brilliantly, almost illuminating the blade. Finally Marcus handed the blade over to Gunho.
