Yuros' reply to her statement about Daston was simply another huff and a flick of his ear. The Kelvic thought it was something like that, but the fact only further proved his feelings that the two legs thought far more than they should. The scent of the boy and his horse, such silly creatures, proceeded them, and Yuros lifted his head to watch as they approached. Blinking slowly he eyed the beast with a mixture of pity and disinterest. Such a shame, to share so much with the great Stags and yet be so far beneath.

He felt Alea's weight shift to a more even position, nestling in the spot between his shoulders and his neck, and the Kelvic took that to mean she was ready to leave. Yuros stood slowly so as not to unbalance his bonded, keeping his neck straight so that she could grip his fur for security. Looking down on Daston and his horse, Yuros huffed and turned toward the gate.

The Kelvic flicked his ear at Alea's further statements, a soft chuckling sound coming from his throat as he began to walk. Turning his head he could just see the girl where she perched on his back. He flicked his ear once more, but this time in a way that said, For now I accept your words, but those who cannot keep up with me shall be left in the snow. Then, after giving Alea a look that was strangely similar to a smile, Yuros turned his attention to the endless field of white before him, ignoring the silly beast that followed in his wake.

OOCOK lets continue in this posting order from here on out :). So next you go Daston, then Alea and then me and so on and so forth :)

Daston lead Lunan to the girl and her stag. Lunan was a full grown horse with a flawless white coat, but compared to the stag she was nothing more than a mound of snow. He saw that she mounted her stag and seemed to be ready to go. Daston climbed atop Lunan and rode her next to Alea's side. As he rode next to them he noticed the stag looked at her fairly often and was making sounds he didn't expcet to hear from a stag. Of course he had never been around one so close so he couldn't judge, but he did get the impression that the stag had at least basic opinions about people just as Lunan did, and he wasn't sure if he liked Daston or not. "So in which direction are we headed... Alea?" He only heard her name once and it wasn't quite enough to ingrain it in his mind. Luckily it was still fresh enough he remembered it.

Lunan eyed and huffed Alea and the stag suspisciously. In truth Lunan disliked basically all other life except for Daston who had to go through a deal of trouble to break her. It was not impossible to get on her good side, it just rarely happened.

Alea took a look behind her to get a look at the position of the gates, glanced at the position of the sun, and then pointed in a direction somewhere ahead of them. "We want to go mostly east, and a little south." She hadn't actually gotten much relevant information from the sun; she just knew vaguely in the back of her mind that the sun could be used for navigation. The only reason she knew at all what direction she was going was because she had spent a great deal of time peering at her map, figuring out what direction the gates faced, and what direction they wanted to go in relation to that.

Yuros kept his pace to a steady walk, allowing for Alea and the boy to talk and plan as they wished. The Kelvic's mind wandered for a moment, flitting from thoughts of running through towering trees to grazing in quiet pastures. They were peaceful thoughts. Thoughts that slowly began to fade as he began to slip more and more into the mindset of his animal form.

Raising his head the Kelvic looked off to the south, sniffing the cold and huffing softly, almost in thought. Then, as if spotting some unseen clue, Yuros started off at a swift trot toward the South, guided by instinct rather than maps or stars. The Huntress had spoken with him the night before about where they would be going on their winter trek, and the Kelvic felt he knew the general direction of its location.

Daston was a little surprised when Yuros began trotting in a specific direction. He looked at them for a moment, not sure what they were doing, or if he should follow. It wasn't really a question, of course he should follow them. Perhaps the hesitation was more of a projection of his hesitation to venture further. He hit Lunan's side and turned her toward the direction Yuros was going. On her own Lunan made a pace fast enough to catch up, but slowed to Yuro's pace and trotted directly behind him. "So you seem to know where your going?" Daston said, half commenting and half questioning. She told him it was a practice camp out, which implied she didn't have a lot of experience herself, yet she seemed to know where she was going fairly well, which is where the question was brought up in his mind.

OOCsorry for the late post guys, ill try to get on more frequently.

When Yuros began to trot, Alea clung to his fur, still a bit nervous about riding. She trusted Yuros not to throw her, but she'd ended up in the snow a few too many times to not be worried about falling off. She did manage to glance back at Avanthal once, but with the wind rushing through her face, she wasn't able to get a good enough look to try to orient their direction. She would just have to trust that Yuros knew where they were going.

By the time Daston and his horse caught up, Alea was getting used to Yuros' stride. This wasn't quite as fast as the first time she'd ridden the stag, and as long as she held tightly to his fur, she felt safe. Unlike her horse, Yuros would never deliberately try to throw her off. She sat up a little straighter, and was able to hear and even respond to Daston's question.

"I think so. When we stop, we can take another look at the map and make sure we're on the right track. I wonder how far we can get before sunset?"

The chilled air, the crunch of snow, the touch of his bonded upon his neck... It all set the Kelvic's mind at ease. Yuros absently wandered in the general direction as Alea nudged him. The Kelvic had planned on going by a very particular place in the direction that they were going, but if the Huntress willed him elsewhere he would follow, simply put.

As he walked, Yuros noted the steady clop of the horses hooves behind him. Flicking his ear, the Kelvic snorted. If it were not for the words of Alea he would have left the boy and his silly beast far behind, but as it was the Huntress' steady hand kept Yuros at a relatively slow pace. Oh how he longed to run, to cast off the worries that came with two leg life. How he wished to carry the girl upon his back to the far corners of the world, wild and free from all restraints. Soon... Soon he would get his wish...

OOCSince Daston has disappeared, we are going to continue without him.

Not too much later, Alea was holding on for dear life as Yuros ran at top speed. Daston had long since given up on their adventure and decided to turn back, so Alea had no excuse to ask Yuros to slow down. She knew he would slow down if she asked, but she could tell he loved running, and she just didn't have the heart to restrain him. She buried her hands and face in his fur to keep them out of the freezing wind, clinging to him with her legs as well. There was no saddle, no way to be sure she would not fall off other than to trust that Yuros would never let her come to harm.

Thrill, exhilarating... Freedom. This was all that could be used to describe the sensation that the stag felt as he raced across the empty landscape. The chilled win coursed over his fir, setting his nerves alight with fire and energy unlike anything else. No, nothing else could do this, could summon forth such a reaction as the wild and extreme freedom that bore the Stag in his journey now. It mattered not where they were, nor where they were going. All that mattered, was the thud of hoof and whistle of wind.

Mounds of snow passed in a blur of motion, and the heavy pounding of his hooves on the ground lulled the Kelvic into a steady state of mind. Absent thoughts mixed with fleeting fancies, but never did a conscious thought surface to disrupt his rhythm. He was free, cut off from the bounds of traveling with a beast and its rider. Free to run to his fullest, and free to hold the Huntress all to himself.

It was with a feeling of satisfaction that Yuros slowed his charge slightly, turning his antlered head to see the pair long left in the snow, unable to keep up with his thundering pace. With a derisive snort and a shake of his head, he turned his attention back to the matter at hand. Alea clung to him, lighting the spots where she touched with warmth and comfort. He could feel her tensing, holding on desperately. Though she could never know, Yuros made sure that every movement was even and level, allowing for very little sudden turns or motions that might toss her by accident.

The speed would continue for a few minutes more, the Kelvic's obvious delight fueling his muscles with fire unlike anything else. He was free, he was running, and... he was with his bonded. What more could a Kelvic ask for? His pace began to slow, and Yuros fell into a steady trot that was slow enough for Alea to sit up and look around if she wished. WIth a snort he looked back at the Huntress, looking for what she wished for him to do next.

When Yuros finally slowed down, Alea still clung to his fur a few moments more, not quite trusting that he wouldn't speed up again. When his pace remained steady, she slowly sat up, flexing her cramped hands one at a time. She looked at her surroundings, and felt a moment of nervousness when she didn't recognize anything. Even the city was gone from view, though she thought she could make out Yuros's footprints trailing behind them.

The pair continued travelling for most of the day, resting every few bells so that Alea could stretch her legs and try to make sense of her map. She tried not let Yuros become aware of her growing concern. She tried to trace their path from Avanthal, but it was hard to tell whether or not they were still going in the right direction. The landscape around Avanthal was pretty much just expanses of snow and rock with a few trees here and there, and the first major landmark would not be visible until at least a day of riding (or so she had been told when she bought the map).

She shrugged off her concerns. She had them going in the right direction when they left Avanthal, and she trusted Yuros not to lead them astray. Though, she would feel better if she had some way of orienting herself...

When the sun neared the horizon to her right, Alea began to think about making camp. There was still no sign of any landmark, only a few rock formations much like ones they'd already traveled through. She told Yuros to head for them, thinking that, if nothing else, they would make decent shelter from the wind.
