[Inspiring Photo]

Finding inspiration is difficult; putting words on a page, to me, is the most challenging hobby I’ve picked up yet. I was never a writer: I hated writing short stories that were required of me in high school, and I can’t remember a time I wrote a poem that wasn’t for a grade. It’s not something that comes naturally to me, and I envy people that can just spit words out and have them all make sense and tell a nice story.

What inspires me? Music sometimes has an effect, and the mood I’m in plays a big role in what I write. I’ve said it before: on this collaborative writing board I don’t write how many maybe think I should write—in order of oldest reply—I write what I feel like writing at the time and screw anyone that thinks I should do otherwise. Even when I’m feeling particularly creative, I don’t like going back and re-reading my own writing. It’s embarrassing to me somehow. I guess what I’m trying to convey with all of this, is that I’m quite low on the self-esteem scale when it comes to my own writing.

But you know what? I’m damn proud of the stories I’ve had the chance to write here (even if I don’t like every word I wrote). We just finished Draw, another piece in a large puzzle that I hope we don’t finish any time soon. I feel like I could put all the praise on Victor’s writer for developing such a great character and I will, because awesome deserves recognition. I’m just along for the ride. I mean, god knows Seven wouldn’t be half so interesting without Vic’s influence.

I feel like I’ve drifted from my original point. Then again, I don’t think this scrap had one to begin with.

Ah, right.

Your an Idiot
and you're lazy English bothers me: a mini rant

You've heard the "starving kids in Africa" defense: mothers and children locked in stubborn staring contests over the dinner table, arguing the fate of broccoli. Well, here's another. There are educated children in Europe that are fluent in English as a second, third, or even fourth language, and you're over here abusing it.

Dear most of the people in my life,
Master the one damn language you know. It isn't that hard not to look uneducated, even if you are.

There, they're, and their are the ones that really bother me.

Here's a simple exercise people should remember:
Word substitutions

Ask yourself, "Could you rewrite this sentence with the words 'they are' and have it still make sense?" If the answer is yes, then use "they're".

Or ask, "Is this a location or destination?" Then its either here or THERE.

Does it belong to someone? Then it's either his, hers or THEIRS.

Along those same lines, it gets an ' if it's short for it is. But if it's possessive, then it's its. You don't put an apostrophe in hi's or her's, so don't put one in possessive its.

Though I'll admit I have my grammer faux pas as well. I tend to mix up effect and affect.

So I'm on vacation now for about a week and a half, meaning I'm going away for some of it. I'll be gone until Wednesday, then home again for a couple of days, and then gone again for the weekend after this one. I'll have my laptop handy on the first trip, let's see if I can't get inspired by the wilderness and finish a few replies.

Tides
The tidal shift here is the most extreme in the world. You can't really tell from the
photo how far away the water is on the left, but it was over a kilometre. Thanks, Moon!

After several coffeeless days, drinking one cup of Sumatran will own your face. My mind's going too fast to catch up on writing at the moment, but I'm back. WITH A VENGEANCE. N-no, not really a vengeance. I'm just back.

That was a good ragecation.
