Around home and at her trade, you’ll tend to find her covered in the clay she works in. A dab on her earlobe; a smear across her forearm. The rumor is that she cleans up rather nicely, though it seems to be a rare happening. Still she is tidy in her appearance (save for the clay) – Her hair is always neatly kept, her clothing never ripped or torn, and so on and so forth. She stands at about 5’5” and weighs around 125 pounds. There is something mournful about her from the way she tends to bow her head away to the intensity of her blue eyes. She moves quickly and carefully as if hoping to not draw much attention to herself. And in this line of not wanting to be noticed, she tends to dress in much more somber colors than many other Benshira. Rarely will you see her in coins. Many times you will only see her eyes peeking out from behind her plain veil. Of course one can never miss her hands – palms tattooed black and snake branded onto the top of her right one.

Ha’na, from the tents of Itamar, of the sons of Nogah. Though no longer used, that was the name she was given when born. Fifth daughter. Ninth sibling. Ha’na of Yehebah. Never a wanderer. Never a nomad. Doomed to have a soul meant for wanderlust and a tether to the land. Growing up the women of her tent ran a rather lucrative ceramics business when they were not attending to the matters of the home and family. Ha’na of the Itamar Potters. She, too, learned the skills to make her family’s sought-after vessels, studying the shapes pressed and glazed onto their walls. The men farmed. The men kept bees. The men stayed just as busy as the women. There was nothing genius or alluringly special about this Ha’na. She spent her time caring after smaller children and doing little odd jobs that she was not too young for. Not rich. Not poor. Ha’na. Daughter of Talmai and Yiskah. She loved a young man two years her senior by the name of Yaib. It was most fortunate that he also loved her. That is were the fortune ends, for it came to being that Yaib ended up wed to a girl with a larger dowry than the modest Ha’na’s. Perhaps this was our Ha’na’s downfall – Her love. For when Yaib’s wife was with child, he came wandering back to Ha’na, who loved him too much to say no. This was a type of love that another culture would have idolized – The depth of it so deep that others would spend many lifetimes attempting to gain. This was not the case in the story of Ha’na. Of course they were discovered and all too quickly at that. Yaib’s wife went to the High Masha to have him pardoned. Poor Ha’na, the adulteress, had no one on her side. Ha’na of the blackened hands. Ha’na of the serpent’s brand. Ha’na who then knew the blind terror of finding yourself in the pit with the adder overnight in Yehebah. The morning they pulled her out, perhaps stunned that she was still alive, was the morning she left.
