[The Sunken Conundrum] The workings of the inner mind

Spring, Day 12, 512 AV

On his first visit to The Sunken Conundrum, Vulpeclae had been taken aback by the wall of water he was met with. Eyes of golden amber blinked in surprise, reaching forward to gently run his fingers through the water. How in the world was the water not flowing out into the street? His eyes glanced over the sign that hung on the door, a small smile pulling up at the corners of his lips. "Please Remember to Breath." Ah, but of course, this was another well crafted illusion of the city's making. He steadied himself, before stepping in through the water.

There was a strange prickling along his sides, drawing his attention down. Gills. He had grown gills. Vulpe took a moment to marvel at the strength of the illusion, able to make him believe that their was a true change in his physiology. Fascinating. He took in a breath, feeling the water filter through the gills. It was an...odd sensation, to say the least. But this wasn't what he was here for. No, he was here in search of a book to better his talents. Slowly, he swam through the watery library, eyes searching through the names of books for anything that stood out to him.

There were a great deal of books in this library, one of them had to have some form of information that would be useful to him. He wasn't sure why he was so interested in hypnotism. There was an internal force that drove him to know more, to understand the workings of the djed and how it affected the mind, confuses the perception, made people susceptible to what the hypnotist suggested. He...Something in his memory, as fogged over and full of holes as it was, had him wanting...needing to use this skill. He couldn't remember what for, but it must have been important if he remembered.

Molten amber scanned the names of the books, searching for anything that said djed or hypnotism. There had to have been something. Something that would propel his knowledge forward. He needed to know! He needed to know more about this. It was burning need inside of him.

Drakath went into the sunken conundrum searching for a book on djed and the workings of magic. As he passed through the water field he giggled as he felt the gills grew on him but he was unphased as he used to come here all the time. He came here in search of a certain subject. he was looking for a section about magic he gazed through the aisles looking for a labeled section about magic or djed or something of that nature. He saw instead a grown up man with what appeared to be horns on his head he went to investigate, as he walked up to the man he saw him standing examining the books and he taught to himself "maybe this man with the pretty horns would know where the magic books were" so he went up to him and asked. "Say sir have you seen any books about magic i am looking to study today and wondering where the books would be that i need"

There was a movement in the waters next to him, alerting him to the incoming presence of the younger male. Vulpeculae turned to face the younger male, his eyes drifting over his younger form briefly. Why would there be a child in a place such as this? Further more, what possible use would a child have in book about magic. Turning fully to face the younger male, Vulpe managed to bring a small smile to his lips, hoping he looked curious, instead of the normal melancholy that graced his features. "And what would such a young man want with a book for mages?" He kept his voice low. Quiet.

Mages were not the most trusting of people, he had found, and for good reason. They weren't well liked, and after the strange happenings on the first, he wasn't sure he completely trusted other mages himself. Maybe this child had a master of sorts, sending him on an errand? That would be a logical assumption, he decided. Still, he didn't think this young man understood the dangers of speaking so openly about wanting to study magic.

The man looked down at him and while he spoke and he listened to what the man said. "Well im a mage why is it weird for people like me to practice magic. ive been studying it for well as long as i remember and i well i ..." at this point he grabbed his cane with his hand and contemplated twisting it and unleashing the blade but he thought better of himself "circumstances made it so i had to study alone from now on, or with whatever friends i plan to make and i was hoping i would find someone that knows about magic to teach me. i want to learn the finer arts of magic not just how to use it my old master told me how to use reimancy and glyphing but i want to learn how to do more stuff he barely told me about anything. Before well the circumstances changed... Oh im sorry sir i forgot to introduce myself my name is Drakath" after this he smiled and turned his head sideways "um how long was i rambling i do that alot sorry" After that he just stared at this older mans eyes in amazement at how beautiful they were he had never seen another boy with such pretty eyes.

Vulpeculae listened quietly as the boy explained that he had had a master, until recently. Even better, that his master had been the one teaching him magic. A brief flicker flitted through his mind as he realized that the young man had danced around the topic of his master. He wasn't willing to talk about it, obviously, so Vulpe decided not to push it. Still, it was interesting to know what this child was capable of. Reimancy... Interesting. Would it be harder to hypnotize someone who already knew a bit about djed? Even if it was just a child? "Alright, Drakath. But you need to hush."

Soft hands came down to rest on the boy's shoulders. A connection. More persuasive. "You're very lucky it was me you came up to. Not all people are fond of magic." He had to make sure this child understood, not wanting the boy to accidentally reveal himself to someone who was not so...understanding. "I was looking for books on magic myself, but I seem to be having little to no luck... Maybe I was being optimistic in hoping they would have anything I could use.."

A raised brow, the cogs in his mind turning in ideas. This child had just given him a bit of information that seemed... useful, for his purposes. This child seemed particularly susceptible, especially if he were to channel djed through his apparently 'pretty eyes'. A slight twist pulled on his smile, straightening in the water. "Drak, would you like to help me with something?" He asked, tilting his head slightly. "I promise that if you help me with this, I'll do what I can to help you with your own...studies." He chose his words carefully, not wanting listening ears to know the nature of what they were discussing. Being sure that he didn't let on about the nature of what he wished to do to the child. Most were not open to being the test subject of a hypnotist. He pinned his gaze on the younger male, using the advantage that Drakath had admitted.

Drakath felt he would do anything this man said anyway so he knew he should help him with anything he needed to do but he also was curious as to what the man wanted him to do so he spoke to him. "what would you want me to help you with sir i might be able to help you, also you will need to tell me your name if you want me to help you sir"

Vulpeculae had hoped the youngling would agree to go along with his plans without much of a fuss, but is seemed that even the young had a glimmer of intelligence when it came to pretty strangers. Well, it might help if he introduced himself first. "Oh, have I forgotten to give you my name?" He cooed, a bright smile spreading across his lips. "I am Vulpeculae... My that's a mouthful to say.

You may call me Vulpe, if you wish. It's a bit easier on the tongue." He gave the boy his best smile, motioning for him to follow out of the library. Out into the noise of the Alvadas streets, where their words would be less noticed and judged. Oh how he wished the boy had just agreed to the task without asking questions. Things would be so much simpler that way. But that was the curiosity of youth, he supposed. A frown pulled at his lips. Youth...he didn't remember having one.

They left the wall of water, Vulpe shivering slightly as he felt the gills on his sides close. Such an odd sensation. One he'd likely become used to, if fate permitted. Finding his bearings on breathing air again, the horned male turned to face Drakath. "I am looking for certain people with peculiar circumstances," Namely, people who he could manipulate easy enough to let him test on them, "To run some simple hypnotism on." His voice was dropped, not wanting to draw attention to what he was speaking.

"Nothing fancy, I won't make you humiliate yourself. I just wish to practice something simple." His words were laced with a soft tone, keeping eye contact with the boy. A soft tendril of djed reached out to the young male, searching through the mess of energies that radiate from all life to reach him. "You will help me with this." He reached a hand out to the boy, a gesture of trust, willing him to take it.

At this point he remembered what Vulpe had said about most people not liking magic "err project it might be fun ive always been interested in that subject myself it seemed cool but i never actualy put any reasearch into it it seems useful to know about though. Maube we could learn more about each others talents later"
