Kiandra Thalassa The call of the sea is one I cannot ignore. Name: Kiandra Thalassa Age: Winter 492 AV (19 years old) Gender: Female Here before you on this day is the female known as Kiandra, more affectionately known by her pod as ‘Kia’, this shorter name is to the young Svefra’s preference, as she sees her actual birth name to be too much of a mouthful and also quite old. She was born in the winter of the year 492 AV upon a stormy night much to the annoyance of her mother, who swears Kia has always caused more trouble than good. She was born into the Thalassa pod, roughly translating into ‘ocean’, to her mother, Lia Sunn, leader of the pod. A Svefra through and through, Kiandra is barely seen away from her beloved sea and boat where she has lived most of her life, the call of the ocean being her only path in life. The only places she is seen on the solid ground of the earth is at ports and occasionally taverns and inns, depending on whether the boat is in for repair even her skills can not fix. Her lead language is Fratava, followed closely by common, meaning she can communicate in most places. She does know basic greetings and such in other languages, but apart from that, she knows little else. Physical Description On first appearance, Kia is a relatively small person, standing 5ft 4 off the ground, making her seem weak and defenceless at the best of times, which isn’t helped by the fact she looks as if she wouldn’t hurt a fly, yet alone another being who crossed her path. She doesn’t mind her height however and will happily use it to her advantage wherever she is, especially on the boat where it helps her scamper up the ropes and other surfaces with ease, even in the stormier times at sea. The girl is also slim, despite the amount of food she seems to eat on a day to day basis due to the large abundance of life which lies just beneath the toss and turn of the waves. Unlike others who only walk the land, Kia has had her fair share of accidents over the years from various accidents on the boat, which leaves her with a wide variety of scars on her legs and hands from incidents even she cannot remember. They cause her no pain however, and, if they did, there would be too much to do on the boat to even consider stopping for a minute for a sick break. Her skin is a dirty brown colour from being in the sun too much and is weather worn from permanently being in the wind and being outside each and every day, however, this is like every over Svefra out there so is nothing unusual. On her left shoulder blade on her back is her tattoo of a whale, in more of a tribal style than anything else. This is her link to her pod, and is what all of the Thalassa pod wear, wherever they choose to on their bodies. The same goes with her eyes, a deep piercing blue, the colour of the ocean that she does so adore. A sign of who she is, who she belongs to. She has long red hair which reaches the middle of her back and as with any other person of her kind, it is tied up in what seems a million braids and beads, all intricately done to reflect who she, usually tied up with a scarf if Kia’s movements mean she doesn’t wish to have her hair blowing in her eyes all the time. On the subject to what she wears Kia is much like the other Svfra, preferring to wear loose fitting clothing which is easy to move in. Typically, she can be seen in a plain white shirt, with loose brown trousers which tighten to a bow just above the knees, similar to shorts. However, this is usually adorned with the vast amount of beads and bracelets she wears up her arms. She also has her left ear pierced multiple times with various rings she has found on her travels. Character Concept Bubbly and lively, Kia strives to bring a smile to people faces whenever she can, being a firm believer in seeing the best in things and preferring to be positive rather than see the negative side of things. Even when things seem to be taking a turn for the worse she tries to see the brighter side which has spurred her on to make her next move on many of a occasion. Although not exactly a funny person, she does try her best to make people smile or at least cheer them up. This side of her is inherited from spending her time on the sea, learning that if you dwell too much on the bad, it can affect the good in the future. Kia is also a kind hearted girl, happy to help other at most times, however, on the other hand, She does have a temper, and this sometimes can make her seem unapproachable as it flares up and lets her down. Even if she means no harm her words can carry injury. However, after the incident she is haunted by regret and will try to make it up to whoever she has hurt the feelings of, even if this task in itself is more difficult than the whole ordeal in the first place. She is a talkative person and likes to express her feelings to people she meets, often annoying people in the process of doing so due to her constant yapper and need to have a reply to everything. As her mother and father most rightly know. This overall causes her to be quite judgemental about people and if she doesn’t get on with someone, it will be tough for her to get around this. Kia is a forward thinking, organised person, who knows what she has to do to get what she wants. In day to day life however, she may seem quite the opposite, often forgetting the simplest of things, which can cause her great annoyance if it something quite important. She is a deep believer about her kind and their beliefs and wouldn’t turn her back on them, even though she has an adventurous nature and will often wander further onto the land than some of her kin might. Character History before her story starts Born upon the sea on a stormy night, Kia was brought into the world through the shouts of the rest of the Svefra on the boat yelling to tie everything down, rather than to be calmed and welcomed with gentle hands by the rest of her pod. Of course, this was because it was winter, and the sea is notoriously dangerous at this time, but of course, for the Svefra, life goes on even when your boat is being torn to bits by winds that even the god of the sea himself would be scared of. Thankfully, the storm was stilled eventually, and it was seen the small baby was blessed with sea blue eyes, and didn’t need to be returned to the sea to return again in the future. Kia vastly enjoyed her young life on the boat, growing up with her kin and pod, her many brothers and sisters that were with her at all times. As with any other young Svefra child, she was taught the ways of her kind, learning what made them them. For the young Kiandra, it amazed her and fascinated her, wishing to endlessly learn more about her kind, even when there was no more to learn. She also learnt about fishing and swimming, enjoying spending every moment she could in the water or if not, learning how to sail the boats by watching the men and woman on board with wide eyes, watching them tie complicated knots with ease and precision. When she was aged all but 13 years Kia met her taven, a small brown otter known simply as Gri. This name mainly came about after a small toddler on one of the boats had started chasing the small otter around, muttering the words through drooling smiles. Thus, the name Gri stuck. At age 19 Kiandra does as most of the other woman on board do, helping look after the children even if she has none of her own, and doesn’t wish to for a long time. However, she is more skilled at sailing and will usually opt out of any child minding jobs if an alternative arises. From the time her story starts, she had recently bought her own ship, currently without a name. It’s an old thing, and is in bad repair, but Kia loves it dearly and is currently on a mission to get it back to it’s former glory. as time goes on This shall be filled in at a later point as this young Svefra travels the sea at her expense.
