1st day of Summer 512 AV

The young Svefra settled down at the waters edge, her fingers resting in the sand as she leaned back, taking in the sun as a light breeze gently moved the beads that ended the strands of braiding that made up part of her hair. She was thinking of the ocean once again, more precisely what her pod were up to. She had left them earlier in the week, promising to be back by the end. After all, she had only left to try and barter some parts for her boat, which, to be honest, wouldn’t survive the storms which were bound to brew in the hot weather which was arriving with the dawn of summer on Mizahar.

A small being squeaked beside her. ‘Shh, Gri’ She whispered to the small otter which was winding it’s way around her wrist, it’s black eyes staring up at her. He squeaked again. ‘Y’had a fish all but a quart of n hour ago, y’carn’t want another.’ She muttered at him, outstounded at how such a little creature could have such a bottomless stomach. Gri pawed at her wrist again. ‘Fine’ Kiandra muttered in defeat, fishing a dead fish out of a bag and handing it to the otter, who devoured it, bones and all, in what seemed barely 30 seconds.

Kia smiled to herself as she watched and then turned to search through the rest of her bag, counting through the coins she had. 100. Hopefully it would be enough. She wasn’t used to trading with coins, it was an odd affair to her, but her mother had told her it was the only way on the ground, and many beings didn’t accept anything else.

As the tide rolls in. [Open]

Postby Lenonrie on June 4th, 2012, 12:29 am

More than not lately, Lenonrie had found herself drawn to gaze upon the shoreline. Being a traveler, anything that could take her to a whole new place, a whole new world, was something worth spending a thought on, or in her case, several thoughts. Coming to the guardrail, along the walk way overlooking the sea, she watched thoughtfully as the tides rolled in.

It was beautiful. It seemed to give the water a whole new perspective as the sun hit the pigments and shimmered with the rippling waters. Watching it now, Lenonrie couldn't help but feel oddly at home. Her parents were seafarers, but never really took her out on to the water much, that she could remember. They had told tale that they had met and fallen in love on the sea. If that was true, there were great things Lenonrie could only imagine floating above and below those depths.

But these were just mere thoughts. Lenonrie wasn't through with this city just yet. There were so many lives she had yet to encounter. So many secrets she had yet to uncover. In other words, she had business to attend, and any true woman or man of business knew where priority laid...if only she was really a woman a business. She mused to herself.

Stepping back from the black railing, she calmly made her way down the expanse of black iron and cobblestone, before descending the stairs that met with the sand. The air was hot, but Lenonrie didn't mind much, she was well acquainted with the different seasons and could take a little temp. change. Looking down at the sand that was starting to invade her shoes, an idea came to her. Using the front of her foot to slide her foot from her shoe, she did this with both of her feet, and then her socks. The sand was warm against her skin, and as she continued to walk, shoes in hand, the action was made so much more enjoyable.

It was a quiet walk for the most part, a few people here and there. It was mainly street children playing or looking for something to barter. She kept her eyes to the edge of the waters, moving toward the invading substance, she let the cool liquid roll over her feet.

Then something caught her attention, a form further in the distance with a smaller more hyperly moving one around it. She tried to focus, but the mists seem to rise from the water and circle her, making focus almost unachievable. So she did the one thing that might help in this situation. She moved closer, squinting her eyes to get a better look.

As soon as she was closer, the mists faded. And she found herself right next to a girl and an otter, eyes still squinted not having yet to change her expression.

As the tide rolls in. [Open]

Prepared as ever, Kiandra sluggishly thought through all of the pieces she needed with precision and where everything had to go. Nothing she aimed to get was that of material purpose, the young Svefra knew from her upbringing that this would be a waste on the resources. As it was she knew that, shamefully, what she wanted to go and buy from the various ports around the Suvan sea was the bare minimum the ship would need, but at the moment, it would have to do.

The main thing, of course, was that the old Casinor didn’t sink in the storms that were due to brew with the arrival of such warm weather. That would be more trouble than the old thing was worth, and to loose all one’s possessions… now that was not a thing to be taken lightly. She had heard of such an event once.. long ago, in the storms that had raged throughout the lands, the pod had never been able to recover fully and the members had gone their separate ways, joining new pods, loosing what was theirs.

A lone screech of a seagull broke Kia’s concentration as her mind had begun to worry about much smaller things which didn’t more than a moments thought in reality. Her eyes tilted upwards, as did Gri’s as they watched it spiral lazily through the air without a care in the world before shooting back off into the distance to join the rest of it’s flock. Kia laughed as she heard the otter next to her snort before going back to running up and down the small stretch of beach gleefully.

Kia knew she was homesick, although, in fairness, in all her nineteen years on this world she hadn’t ventured far from the pod, or, if she had, she had been with one of her kin at least, never on her own as she was now. She missed the permanent noise there seemed to be on board the bigger boats as people cared for the younger children why trying to carry out their duties at the same time. Permanent hustle and bustle wherever you went.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over Kia, blocking off the sun that had been shining on the spot for what had seemed the best part of the day. ‘Wha-?’ Kia asked, looking up to be greeted with the sight of a woman, squinting down at Kiandra and Gri. Not an expression which usually suggested welcome. ‘What d’you want?’ Kiandra asked, wondering how on earth she had not heard this woman approach, and why she was standing in such close proximity squinting at them. It wasn’t illegal to sit on the beach was it?

Lenonrie had never been one to overstep her boundaries, and seeing as she had broken a stranger's personal space and practically looked like a crazy person squinting down at them, she had reason to panic a little. Her eyes went wide, breaking the stare. Straightening up, she held up her hands. "I'm so sorry." She apologized profusely trying to think of a way to explain herself, but being caught looking dumbfounded was something that brought anxiety and left Lenonrie tongue tied.

So of course none of the words coming from her mouth were making any sense, but god, there were a lot of them. Then, after the anxiety passed, the self criticism kicked in. Why was she freaking out? She was sure she had yurned beat red either from the heat or emarrassment, which one though, she'd probably never know.

Putting her hands back down, she sighed. "I don't want anything," finally, she had managed to come up with a reply to the solitary question the girl had asked after a minute or so of blubbering. "I just..." say nothing that might implicate you, "I was daydreaming." She smilef at the girl, "I must have still been daydreaming when I came across you."

It wasn't as though she was lying. Her zone wasn't necessarily a daydream more like...a self inflicted illusion, but try explaining that to other people. Not a pretty outcome, nor pleasant in the least.

Jay walked through the gates and saw two women standing on beach. One with an otter. He walked over to the two women.

"I hope you don't mind me butting in but your otter is just so cute" Said Jay "What is it's name"

It wasn't really the otter he was interested in though. It was the woman. He had never had a girlfriend so maybe this is his chance. She looked pretty nice. Lets hope the otter had broken the ice.

Just before Kiandra was starting to get a little more than uncomfortable about this woman squinting at her, the woman’s eyes widened, apologising, as if realising what it must of looked like from Kia’s point of view, Gri appeared from behind the shadow of Kiandra’s arm, noticing that now there was no threat and he wouldn’t have to dive in the water at a moments notice to escape, back to the boat which floated in the port among the many other, far finer and grander than itself.

The woman seemed to grow self conscious, almost guiltily before Kiandra’s very eyes. She could mostly tell this due to the bright shade of pink she seemed to be turning, which wasn’t due to the sun. Kiandra felt regret of what she had said and how she had reacted, maybe it had been a little too harsh. She didn’t mean to make anyone feel bad, it was all a mistake.

‘It’s ok.’ Kiandra replied, her expression relaxing as she smiled a little, now knowing that it was just a mis-understanding and this woman wasn’t about to chuck her off the beach for violating some unknown rule. It wouldn’t of surprised her, as she wasn’t as used to the ways of land as she would like to be at this time. ‘I find myself daydreaming all the time, I just recommend not walking whilst doing it.’ She smiled at the woman. ‘I’m Kiandra.’ She introduced herself, guessing that this was a way to try and amend for what had just happened.

Suddenly, a new person came into, a man this time, although he looked slightly.. off. Not quite human, more… feline? If that was the correct way to put it. Kiandra hadn’t come into many different species in her time, many of them not travelling the Suvan sea, preferring to travel by land. ‘The Otter?’ She asked. ‘His name is Gri.’
