Physical Description
Name: Nanuk
Race: Vantha
Age: 21
Birthday: 17 Summer 492 AV

Nanuk certainly looks his heritage; he stands about 5’9’’, with straight, fine black hair that shines a deep, vibrant purple, and falls to his shoulders unbound, with lightly tanned skin and a lean build. His face doesn’t have quite the same “round” quality as the rest of his people; it takes on a slightly more angular type. He has broad shoulders(which he brag to many women are good for leaning on) and slender fingers with well kept nails and small toughened pads of skin across from drum playing. His teeth are mostly straight and white, and he takes to wearing a slightly scruffed beard of late.

Character Concept

Nanuk, sometimes referred to affectionately as Nanu, loves to live and lives to love. He’s very happy go-lucky, very flirtatious, and has a smile aimed to charm women. It doesn’t always work, but he will certainly try! He will pick a place with lots of people and sing his stories, either in Vani or Common. At nights, he will frequent any tavern that Ionu permits him to find and sing or drum or tell stories. Maybe take a lady home if he’s lucky. As long as he spends his days fed, he’s happy. He has a roof over his head, and a living he loves.

It’s very hard to insult Nanuk. Most times, he just writes it off as the day wearing on other people. However, the few things that are cut close to him emotionally he just sort of tries to ignore, or laugh off. He believes that the path of least resistance is always best, and is the epitome of “make love, not war”. When someone forces him into a conflict, he almost shuts down. He just doesn’t like conflict. If he can talk his way out, he will. If he can find a diplomatic way out, he will.

Something he doesn’t address often is the split identity; by blood he is Vantha. But he only knows Alvadas as a home. His Vani isn’t as strong as his mother’s, though he knows a good deal of it. Due to this split identity conflict he has in himself, he doesn’t often talk about Avanthal except in terms of a student reporting on his findings.

There is probably a lot more to his concept, that I will add to as I discover through playing him.
Character History

Nanuk’s birth was that of chance. His mother was an Icemaiden in Avanthal that took to traveling with caravans on trade routes to bring outside goods to Avanthal and visa versa. His father was a great storyteller that spent some years traveling the world to bring back rich stories to the people. As he was coming home to Avanthal, she was leaving. The two had a tryst that night, and a few months down the road, his mother realized she was pregnant. She decided to settle down somewhere to raise her child where there wouldn’t be any biases against him; where she could find a job, and where her child could grow up doing anything they wanted with themselves. So she settled in Alvadas.

He met his father once. He was ten or eleven, and his father hadn’t known that the one night stand he had resulted in a kid. He just knew that his mother had settled in Alvadas and meant to visit her...and a boy answered the door. Before his father left, he gave Nanuk one of his favorite drums that he would play during his singing and storytelling. His father wrote letters to him here and there, to make sure he was doing well; And his father’s visit inspired him to try to learn more about Vantha culture and ways. They were after all, his birth culture. His mother decided to get back on the trade routes once he came of age, and he chose to stay in Alvadas. He wanted time to take up his father’s craft, and learn the art of storytelling.

However, like all good story tellers and bards, he cannot stay the same place his whole life! He recently moved from Alvadas to Syliras and intends to take residence there for a while, before moving residence again at some juncture.
