[Pig's Foot] Pigs Don't Drink (Open)

"Whether my interest is with all of you or just one of you, is yet to be determined. Or if the interest is genuine, matter of fact." Stated the woman, twitch of her finger in junction with the small clang sound caused by the banging of the cup of milk on the counter top. To her personally, it didn't mean much anything. She'd let the feeblest of the three begin to ponder her words, while Ulric would find a sure way to draw out its futile nature if he was a psychologist.

Fingers wrapped around the glass with vigor, taking a swig of the white liquid was soothing to Yuri. When her parched throat was satisfied enough, the glass was put down. Her face gave way to a comical look for a sly moment, before her tongue was released from its fleshy cage as it went in a windmill motion. It scooped the milk and left no evidence. Smacking her lips with the sound of a suction cup being lifted, her gaze returned to Ulric as he mentioned gold. That wasn't her main objective as much as information was but ; they went hand in hand so she'd begin to atleast give off the aura of gold hungry.

"Gold is always a good thing. But it needs to be something of large scale, if thats the right word, to have a sizeable split between us. Of course, if we all survive said missions but that would be known once we actually get down to business." she muttered now, as the others would have to get closer to hear her. A slip of the tongue could raise hell, an uproar involving the tavern's drunken denizens. While moving her silver tongue, eye movement quickly scanned the area to check the rowdy level. Fewer and fewer jugs were around, while a man came sitting down a bit ways from the group. Either he was to find out about them or set off a "bang", was to be seen.

"But regardless, the biggest killer is trust. I know when it has slapped a man, your faces are stained with marks. If not now, then soon," foreshadowed Yuri in a weird mystical way. It was more of a trick ; see how damaged their past was and the like. If reluctant to say if she was true, it could mean she was true. If they opened up and said that was a lie, she had no obligation to say they were liars. If they spilled the beans, no matter what fraction of a degree, her work was done.

Postby Kon on June 14th, 2012, 4:29 am

Kon's eyes rest for just a second or two on the strange man who may or may not be eavesdropping, but then he decides it isn't too important for the moment and turns his thoughts to Ulric's offer. While he is distracted for a moment by the woman's rather vague statements, he quickly gives up on making heads or tails of them.

Weighing his options, Kon furrows his eyebrows and frowns. "Lucrative jobs" in Sunberth usually meant the sort of work that disagrees with both his nature and his stomach. Furthermore, he wouldn't be averse to a good bar brawl- it'd been too long since his last one, and he had been growing a little worried about getting out of shape so to speak. Of course, in a place like Sunberth money is always useful, and Kon doesn't exactly earn more mizas than he would know what to do with. Besides, he doesn't find himself wanting to part ways with his current company just yet.

Kon sits like this for a short time, only vaguely paying attention to his surroundings. While mulling over his choice, he fiddles with the pommel of his shortsword, the bow resting on his back, and his scarf. Finally, he decides that whatever he- or they, as at least one of the others would likely accompany Ulric- is planning, it'll happen anyway and he might as well be there to share in the profit.

Glancing across at Ulric again, the Inarta nods slowly. "Alright, I'm in. If I can help, I will. What sort of thing do you have in mind?"
"Problem? If you can do something about it, do so and stop worrying. Can't do anything about it? Well, no point in worrying about it to begin with then."

Ulric’s lips cracked, but he clamped them down with recalcitrance, conjuring up the insight that it’s vital to listen doubly. Giving up his attention, he focused on tiny gestures. The tug of a jaw. The flick of eyelids. They’d tell him what he wished to know, if only he concentrated. Not that he was great at it. But he divined flares of what lay beyond, immolating souls. Brashly eager. Cautious doubts. Hints of obstinacy. Entire palettes of subtlety.

Puffing at a spider that’d begun crawling up a discarded jug, he surveyed their faces, arriving at the decision. “There’s plenty of thugs in here, all trying to make a quick profit,” he began, only for his voice to lapse. Ulric scowled pointedly at the creature that’d sidled near their gaggle, all inky fur and wings, like a freak you’d gawk at a menagerie. Not jeering, not talking, just standing, like he wants to get noticed.

Ulric didn’t know if he wanted that, for he was ready to hush this final part. Slowly, he jerked a thumb, indicating the others should shift slightly away. Elbow sliding over the bar, he augmented the distance from his last spot, leaned closer.

“This is what I’m thinking,” he grunted mutedly. “There’s a fence nearby, mostly dealing in purloined jewelry. The kind that doesn’t like risk, or take them, either. The kind that’ll dig up your dearly departed auntie just to lift the silver necklace you buried her with. I’ve not been around for nine petching years, but he’s still up and running. That means he’s probably cunning enough to hold somebody’s pocket, or better yet, sufficiently wealthy to pay off the racketeers for this turf.” Ulric reached out, taking a pull from a jug. “This’ll be tricky, but I don’t imagine it’ll be all that difficult. There are a parcel of lookout, which is why I’m waiting for this distraction.” Distractedly, he gestured at the rowdy pressings of flesh, the empty jugs. “There’s a bolt hole in the back, which most likely leads to his storeroom. This fence is rarely without a pair of thugs, seeing as he’s fat, fearful, and can’t see all that well. That’ll only be part of his gang.”

“Mostly, this job is smash and grab. I can dispense of any impediments, but I require ears to monitor what’s going on. I don’t have enough hands to do the grabbing, either. It’ll be easier to split up. If we kick our way in, they’ll be less likely to notice anybody creeping around the back alley to get in the storage. Now, I don’t know any of you. I can’t say I’ll see you again after this, but I’m an upright man. I’ll give you a fair shake if you’ll do the same for me.”

Ulric glanced them over. “Still in?”

Kreig had a smile growing on his lips as he saw a person whom he knew only by Name, Xavior his name was. Anything else Kreig did not know about the Zith as he listened to Dangerous Man's words "Heh, listening to you may as well teach me a plethora of words dear sir"

The plan he was suggesting was risky to say the least, was this 'fence' independent from the main gangs, or did he simply work alone with the thugs at his disposal? 'Its something to do though' He chuckled as he looked around the tavern, the rowdiness of the drunkards or dregs rising 'The distraction' Ulric wanted "So a rowdy little fight to keep things busy? Sounds entertaining" Again he chuckled as he looked around while listening to Ulric.

"A little robbery sounds a bit of fun, something to flex my fists" He pondered a little more, listening to the man's words. To him the pay was unimportant, but to fill his time was a better option 'Just a fight and I'm happy' Looking at the generous 'Dangerous man' He smirked and said "Interesting thing to do, I'm staying"

[Pig's Foot] Pigs Don't Drink (Closed)

Postby Jahssasyuri on June 21st, 2012, 3:28 am

While she got comfortable in her stool, repositioning more than on one occasion as Yuri was constantly shifting to gain a better field of vision over the area, the level of interest for her was stacking up. For as long as Yuri had been in Sunberth, Jurik's fencing operation was well known through the area to the underworld denizens. He did not care who was dead, the more important the person was before they got murdered, the better for business. The human stole the most valuable jewelry he could find in the catacombs and mines below the city, but most of the work was handled by paid thugs.

If he was having a less than worthwhile season, he'd get jewelry from the graves, then gave it the appearance of other extremely valuable materials. It is rumored that he has a mage to do his forgery with documents, items and helping his goon do crimes undetected, but no one has been really able to confirm such things. Whoever has asked too many questions to the man was quickly silenced, no traces of them left while their valuables were sold for profit. A dirty business that Yuri has been very inclined to deal with for the last three years, but it wasn't out of the question to raid him. He did make vulgar gestures to her with rising frequency, so it was time to for payback and her fair share of the loot.

A chuckle slipped out, "Hehe, that man Jurik is soft indeed. I am in, and I shan't back out till the end. I've dealt business with him before, so I can gain access through passageway he has set for regular and trusted customers. Inside, there is contact books and a ledger of all his business records in a back room. There is pressure plates that when you step on them, a trap door opens up to spikes below and a trip wire with poisonous darts. He has them active during non-business hours, which would most likely be now if he hasn't changed sleeping schedule," continuing to note her own observations from curious experiments. As he was a dangerous individual, she knew that in order to keep herself safe, she had to know her friends better than her enemies.

"Although," Yuri began to mention, on the verge of doubt permeating her tone. "This isn't update, about a week. So anything could of changed," she stated and clarified. It was to avoid blame mostly.

An uncommon albeit low hissing sound was emitted from Yuri's throat, half way a purr and a grunt. On one hand, her excitement to rob a man and gain information was pleasing her. Then, the ugly and disgusting zith that slowly inched closer and closer to the group was becoming irritating to her. She knew nothing of him, his existence was of little importance and he was a threat to the operation. She'd be damned if he was gonna ruin the whole thing.

"And, that thing is starting to wear out its welcome," she leaned close to Ulric and others who were close, whispering loud enough for them to hear but to keep the beast unawares.

[Pig's Foot] Pigs Don't Drink (Closed)

Postby Kon on June 22nd, 2012, 1:36 am

Kon takes another swig of his drink and swallows the last of his meal before speaking up again. "Well, this sounds like it'll be interesting. I think I'll keep with my decision to come along. Besides, risk or no risk, nobody lives forever- and that goes double for anyone in this city."

Even as he speaks, Kon can feel himself getting more and more jittery at that thought of the approaching job. He begins drumming his hands on the bar and he begins to have trouble keeping his gaze on any one thing for too long. A grin slowly spreads across his face and he can barely resist the urge to stand up.

The more he thinks about it the better this job sounds. The idea of stealing from a thief appealed to Kon, and just maybe he could do a bit of good with the profit from it. Above all, it was something different, and even in this city the Inarta can only go so long without looking for change. From the way the woman described it alone he takes a guess that it will likely be far more exciting than a similar job elsewhere- assuming he can live long enough to enjoy it.

"So, plan sounds simple enough. Least it does to me, and I'm hardly the brightest one around." Kon lowers his voice even further- though only with mild success, as the conversation seems to have already taken a greatly hushed tone and the young man has never been particularly good at controlling his volume in any case. "What do you we do about him though?"

The newcomer's presence hadn't bothered him much before, but now that he'd been reminded to keep an eye on him, the closing gap is a bit disconcerting. Even so, Kon doesn't sound as bothered as Yuri did. Maybe he simply doesn't see how the stranger could likely cause trouble, or maybe worry just isn't in his nature. Either way, the Inarta does make a slight effort to find an answer to his own question, though he fails to come up with anything he could be sure of. Furrowing his brow and giving a light grunt as his thoughts obstinately refuse to turn into something useful, he decides to let the others handle this little detour until he's needed.
"Problem? If you can do something about it, do so and stop worrying. Can't do anything about it? Well, no point in worrying about it to begin with then."

Ulric’s gimlets flicked to the whorled shelf of bar under his elbow, all sticky and disfigured with scratches. Idly, he traced the ball of his right thumb over a pearl of spilled liquor. Blotting it so the fluid dried in a jumble. Below this pretense of distraction, he surveyed the wadding of flesh crowding the skewing beams like an unseemly ballast of gristle, bone, and flapping jaws. It begins, he mused. Then he snorted wryly, his palm fussing over a segment where somebody’d whittled the stylized outline of a phallus.

Liminally, he kept gauging with sidelong askance, precursorily tooling a rebellion of fractious ramblers that he might use to his advantage. Trying to glean if he’d located any support. They were all with him, it seemed. Differing in motive, rationale, and mortality, perhaps starkly, yet he believed them unyielding in this. Feel a few coins and you’re obliged, he grunted. Doling common purpose for the prospect of amity, I think. Fight ignobly or poorly, and you’ve esteem for trying, at least.

Finally, with so many battles behind him, he’d come to realize that single men can’t stand alone.

Ulric dipped his head at Kreig, and then at Kon, rightly grateful for their compliance though he’d directly appealed to their greed. Though eternally faithful as a motivating locus, it didn’t inspire any great trust. They can’t be greedier than me, though, he reflected effacingly. This supremacy of mine envisaged, while scarcely in the making, will surely germinate vipers. They’ll just swallow me up in the end. That’s why you form a circle of fellows, for maybe it’ll forestall the inevitable.

Blankly, he listened to the girl. Thinking he was glad that she wasn’t a floozy, for he would’ve been ignorant of those idiosyncrasies of this task. Hanging on every detail, especially the spikes and pressure plates, he was glad he wasn’t a burglar.

Jurik was shrewd, but then again, prominent men had to be in this city. Ulric scratched his cleft chin. Looking up at the girl’s final remark, he glimpsed the Zith shifting nearer, likely for inclusion. Stared at it directly, for he wasn’t fond of lurkers. Especially ones whose tongues might wag with innuendo that wasn’t intended for their ears. “I’m Ulric,” he spoke curtly. “Divine your purpose, or grab a jug and join the others.”

Ulric glanced at Kreig and Kon, figured they might know more than he did, if Yuri was similarly perplexed by the matter of identity. “Do either of you vouch for him?”

Kreig simply gave a light grin voiced their commitment to the 'mission' as it was called, then immediately all eyes turned to the Xavi, the Zith whome Kreig had only known briefly, Kreig had nothing against Zith's and thus nothing against Xavi. Although his intereactions with the Zith as a whole were practically none existant he aways thought tey were a bit of a fun race despite the stigma, when asked by Ulric wether he can vouch for Xavious Kreig said "I can only somewhat vouch for him, he and I served are, or were, apart of the same group. Know only his name but other than that...." He shrugged as he looked at Ulric than the other two, then looked at Xavi once more.

"I'm sure we can use him as an extra hand.... albeit more as 'eyes' rather than 'hands' " Kreig chuckled as he looked at the Zith, quite honestly he looked useless in a combat situation 'A brat could do more harm than him' Looking at Ulric and the rest he chuckled " One more would be useful, but that is merely my own little opinion, all up to you generous friend".

Albeit it meant they would have to devide the prize even more, Kreig had no true interest in the morning 'It was something to do' That was all he was interested in, something fun and dangerous to keep his mind busy rather than the Miza's they were to recieve if they were to succeed.
