While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Thrill Of The Hunt

10th of Summer, 512 A.V.
Coastline near Sunberth, early afternoon...

Ethan was a brown smudge amongst the orange and crimson clouds. Sunset marked the end of another day, and with night approaching, the failure of a hunt. Typically this would mean an empty stomach, but Hadrian and Kendall were quick to provide food if he came back empty handed. It was appreciated, Ethan of all people knew how important a meal was. Kelvic's were hungry enough but training in magic ontop of that created a hunger that was rarely satisfied.

But it was bored him to just be given everything he needed. He often wondered how City Humans could live this way. Were all you had to do was slap a couple Miza down and someone would fill your belly and your cup. There was no excitement in it, no hardship, no struggle.

But Humans played a different game of survival. They built and rebuilt trying to keep their homes and little fortresses safe from the darkness that surrounds them. Unlike Ethan where fair winds were all he needed to survive. They had to stand and fight whatever creatures that came down upon them. Beasts ancient and warped by the Valterrain and now even more twisted from the recent Djed Storm.

If it wasn't for Hadrian. Ethan would of stayed in the Cobalt Mountains. Coming down only for a few supplies and a woman's comfort. Living high above any prowling monster. Where only wings could take you. Living off the bones of the devoured.

But until Hadrian met his untimely death or Ethan learned all he could of magic. He was bound by a strange sort of love and obligation to follow Hadrian where ever he went. To watch his back and keep his loved ones safe.

Thrill Of The Hunt

Even though he refused to admit it. It was the beginning signs of a bond between him and his teacher. It was a slow process, but easy enough to see. Although he chose to keep himself ignorant of the truth. The pain of a childhood not so distant saw to that. It would be a long time before he came around, if he did at all. But when he did, it would most likely be a defining moment between him and this young mage. Whether to stay and know the shackles of servitude, or fly off and abandon someone that truly deserved his love.

Small brilliant pools of light were scattered across the landscape. More frequent than was expected or hoped for. They were the residual effects of the massive energy storm that tore across the continent. Beyond it's initial destruction and ill effects on the land. It left behind little bodies of condensed Djed. The substance which the souls of all sentient creatures are composed of and the energy that fuels all magic.
